Article APPLICATION OF EXERGOECONOMIC ANALYSIS FOR POWER PLANTS(VINCA INST NUCLEAR SCI, 2018) Unal, Fatih; Ozkan, Derya BurcuCurrently, energy resources are rapidly consumed. Therefore, scientists and engineers study the effective use of energy. In the present study, a thermodynamic and exergoeconomic analysis was performed in a thermal power plant in Turkey. The study involved determining the thermodynamic properties of 27 node points in a thermal power plant unit, and this was followed by calculating energy and exergy values of every node. Mean exergy costs were calculated by establishing energy and exergy balances of the equipment with respect to the calculated results. Subsequently, lost and damaged energies and exergies were calculated, and exergoeconomic factors were determined. The equipments were compared with each other on a graph based on the obtained results. The maximum rate of exergy loss and cost of exergy destruction corresponded to 79.5% and 886,66 $/h, respectively. The maximum exergy losses in a thermal power plant occurred in the boiler, turbine groups, condenser, heating group, pumps, and auxiliary groups. The highest and second highest law efficiencies of the studied thermal power plant corresponded to 32.3% and 28.5%, respectively. The study also involved presenting suggestions for improvement. Additionally, exergoeconomic analyses were conducted while considering the power plants' investment and equipment maintenance costs. It is expected that the calculation method and the obtained results can be applied to other thermal power plants.Article The Approach of The Shi'i Exegetists to The Instances of 'Umar's Muwafaqat(CUMHURIYET UNIV, FAC THEOLOGY, 2018) Ensari, AbdurrahmanKnowing the occasions related to the revelation of the Qur'anic verses is one of the factors contributing to its correct understanding. Since the examples named as "Umar's Muwafaqat" (corcurrences of Umar's perception with certain divine revelatio) is related to the occasion of Qur'an's revelation, they also contribute to the understanding of the related verses. 'Umar's Muwafaqat instances refers here to the subject mentioned after his expression of "I agreed with my Lord in three things." His agreement with His Lord is that he delivered an anticipating opinion, appropriate to God's provision. This is considered to be of the great virtues of 'Umar and of the most important sections of his life. Some narrated reports of 'Umar's Muwafaqat shows that there were many occasions of agreement. Of these instances, the verses that come upon his request that Abraham's Maqam is taken as a place of prayer and the Prophet's wives to veil as well as his statement to the Prophet's wives that God will grant him better wives than them if they give trouble to the Prophet. There have been conducted a number of studies on the subject of 'Umar's Muwafaqat. However, these studies are generally framed by Sunni sources. This study focuses on the way in which the instances of "`Umar's Muwafaqat" included in the Sunni sources are discussed in the sources of Shi'a tafsir. Therefore, the study is the critique of the way that 'Umar's Muwafaqat is handled in Shia tafsir sources.Article THE BASIS OF QADI ABD AL-JABBAR ON THE REJECTION OF VISIBILITY OF ALLAH(ILAHIYAT BILIMLERI ARASTIRMA VAKFI, 2015) Unverdi, VeysiQadi Abd al-Jabbar has rejected visibility of Allah because of ontological and epistemological reasons. According to him the acclaim of visibility requires the existence of Allah in particular environment and direction. This means that transcendental presence is similar to finite and limited cases. As to Mu'tazila tawhid principle it is impossible for Allah to resemble a creature. So that the rejection of visibility of Allah is inevitable in order to protect Him from embodying and similitude. In accordance with those thoughts Abd al-Jabbar has interpreted verses on visibility of Allah on the basis of reason, so that he has built a doctrine on foresight of mind instead of the arguments of the verses. This can be inferred from his declaration which indicates that the verses on tawhid and justice should be understood by principles of mind. As conclusion he built his arguments on the basis of tawhid principle and declared negative view of Mu'tazila on visibility of Allah. Moreover according to him the narrated evidences asserted for visibility of Allah do not bear epistemological merit in terms of certainty and indication. This study aims to reveal the conclusion of reading written sources of Islam by the principles of mind. The selection of its interpretation instead of the actual thing will lead conclusions that cannot be accepted, or at least cannot be proved. Therefore it is the right decision to speak via verses instead of reason on issues of transmission such as life of the Hereafter.Conference Object BEAUTY AND ITS PROJECTION IN CHRISTIAN AND ISLAMIC TRADITION(SPRINGER, 2011) Turker, Habip; Tymieniecka, ATThis essay deals with the conception of beauty and its manner of reflection in Christian and Islamic tradition concisely. Thus some influential thinkers in both traditions are chosen in order to exemplify the common conception of beauty. Christian tradition embraced Greek conception of beauty and art; however it brought a metaphysical depth to Greek conception of beauty in the hands of Christian thinkers. The conception of beauty in Islamic tradition was inspired by the religion and the Hellenistic heritage. However, the most elaborated theories on beauty in both Christian and Islamic tradition were done by mystic philosophers. In both traditions beauty is interpreted as something ontological. Accordingly, beauty is being, not a property added to it accidentally. However, the projections of this common conception of beauty differentiate from each other in some respects. While Christian art emphasizes divine intimacy and tragedy in naturalist perspective, Islamic art concentrates on the statement of the unity, transcendence, and eternity of God in stylized form. Yet, this essay does not overlook counter-examples and different artistic ages in the history.Article Boncuklu Tarla A new pre-ceramic Neolithic site in Eastern Anatolia(SOCIETE PREHISTORIQUE FRANCAISE, 2018) Kodas, Ergul…Conference Object Classification of EEG Records for the Cursor Movement with the Convolutional Neural Network(IEEE, 2018) Turk, Omer; Ozerdem, Mehmet Sirac; Türk, Ömer; Ozyildirim, BM; Yildirim, TNowadays, very successful results are obtained with deep learning architectures which can be applied to many fields. The aim of present study was to classify the mental task EEG records by using Hjorth parameters. hi this study, EEG signals that recorded from 9 subjects were used. EEG signals were recorded by applying a experimental paradigm which contains five stimuli related to different mental task. These stimuli are defined as condition word mental subtraction spatial navigation right hand motor imagery and feet motor imagery Wavelet packet transform was used to obtain sub bands of EEC signals. Statistical parameters that consist of mobility, complexity and Mahalanobis distance were applied to sub-bands. Feature vectors were classified by using artificial neural network. When classification performances related to mental activities were examined, the best classification accuracy was obtained as nearly 80% for 'condition word - mental subtraction', ('spatial navigation feet motor imagery;' and 'spatial navigation - condition word'. The lowest classification accuracy was obtained for 'mental subtraction - right hand motor imagery,', 'condition word - right hand motor imagery' and 'spatial navigation right hand motor imagery'. The classification accuracies related to all stimuli that classifed among themselves were obtained as 77,61%.Article Comparative solid phase extraction study on the U(VI) preconcentration by using immobilized thermotolerant Bacillus vallismortis and Bacillus mojavensis(SPRINGER, 2018) Ozdemir, Sadin; Oduncu, M. The EHEA seeks to ensure that higher education systems are compatible and comparable to one another while preserving their unique differences. This study is aimed to examine the programme competencies of the Department of English Language and Literature. To represent the universe, a state university offering education in English Language and Literature from Turkey's seven regions are chosen, aimed to create a common language for writing the competencies and correct the existing programme competencies. In order to bring the programmes together on a common ground and to be recognised both nationally and internationally, it is important to ensure that the programme competencies are written in a more simplified way without creating comorbidity and classified in the right sub-categories. The study was carried out with case studies from qualitative research methods.Article Conforming Haji Bektash: A Saint and His Followers between Orthopraxy and Heteropraxy(BRILL ACADEMIC PUBLISHERS, 2014) Soileau, MarkSince his death in the 13th century, the Anatolian Sufi saint Haji Bektash Veli has been the subject of a debate as to whether he conformed to the sharia, different parties having at different times portrayed him as either an antinomian charismatic mystic or a sharia-abiding Sufi scholar. This paper traces the course of the debate from the 14th century until today, situating the various interpretations in their historical contexts. As will be seen, interpretations of Haji Bektash's character are often influenced by that of his followers, the Bektashis, who have come to be known as antinomian. Because this non-conformity poses a problem for sharia-minded commentators, the debate is usually framed in terms that can be summarized as a dichotomy between orthopraxy and heteropraxy. Responding to this, Bektashis have instead reframed the dichotomy as one between what we can call esopraxy and exopraxy. The debate is still active today, showing that the concern for this 13th-century saint's praxis is still relevant in modern Turkey.Article Contextualizing Constantine V's radical religious policies: the debate about the intercession of the saints and the 'sleep of the soul' in the Chalcedonian and Nestorian churches(MANEY PUBLISHING, 2015) Krausmueller, DirkThis article argues that in the last years of his reign Constantine V came to reject the intercession of saints, despite the fact that the Council of Hieria, which he himself had convened only a decade earlier, had explicitly anathematised those who held such a view. Moreover, it makes the case that the emperor participated in a broad religious discourse that began in the sixth century and continued into the ninth century, both among the Chalcedonians of Byzantium and the Levant and among the Nestorians of the East.Conference Object Covalent immobilization of benzoylformate decarboxylase on magnetic solid support and its carboligation reactivity(WILEY-BLACKWELL, 2014) Tarhan, T.; Tural, B.; Tural, S.…Article Creating Society in Orwell's 1984 A semiotic analysis of the notion of social transformation(DE GRUYTER MOUTON, 2018) Kalelioglu, MuratIn this paper, the idea of constructing a new society in George Orwell's 1984 is analyzed in the context of the Paris School's semiotics trajectory. Saussurean legacy, which heavily sheds light on the semiotic conception of the school proposed by Greimas, asserts the significance of dichotomies for signs to gain their meaning. Accordingly, the study is grounded on the desired and non-desired contrariety to make the analysis with the semiotic square meaningful. It is possible to encounter the traces of the proposed idea pertaining to the struggle of forming an ideal society at all levels of meaning, predominantly at the deep level as the proposed idea represents the elementary meaning of the narrative, throughout the text. Considering the approach, desired society gains its meaning in the face of the non-desired one relativistically. Regarding the opposition theory of Saussure, what is good for the Party is not supposed to be good for the Opponents. For this reason, the idea of creating society is on the battleground, as there is an uphill fight between the ruling Party and the Opponents. The formation of desired society is revealed thanks to the semiotic square by focusing on both positive and negative transition processes. The really interesting aspect that we encountered is the vicious unended cycle and the war that will never end between the stated groups within the framework of the ideology/axiology perspective.Article Culture as 'Ways of Life' or a Mask of Racism? Culturalisation and the Decline of Universalist Views(AUSTRALIAN CRITICAL RACE & WHITENESS STUDIES ASSOC-ACRAWSA, 2015) Ahmed, SaladdinI begin and conclude the article by arguing that culturalisation has contributed significantly to the decline of the Left and its universal ideals. In the current climate of public opinion, 'race' is no longer used, at least openly, as a scientific truth to justify racism. Instead, 'culture' has become the mysterious term that has made the perpetuation of racist discourse possible. 'Culture', in this newracist worldview, is the unquestioned set of traits continually attributed to the non-White Other, essentially to de-world her Being and de-individualise her personhood. In other words, 'culture', as it is used in the old anthropological sense, is the magic incantation with which the Other is demonised, mystified, and/or ridiculously oversimplified. I focus on the phenomenon of 'culturalisation' as a common new-racist method of de-politicising the Other's affairs and surrounding socio-political phenomena. The article is an attempt to discredit the paradigm of 'culture' as a pseudo-concept used commonly in cultural racism. This cultural racism routinely assumes 'culture' to be a natural given almost exactly as the pseudo-scientific paradigm 'race' was (and is still) used in some discourses of biological racism. If mentality X attributes categorical differences to different groups of people based on A and A is assumed to be natural, ahistorical, and/or metaphysical, then X is a racist mentality. Obviously, A does not have to be skin-colour or 'blood' in order for X to be racist.Conference Object Determination Of Changes in Frequencies of EEG Signal in Eyes Open/Closed Duration(IEEE, 2015) Turk, Omer; Ozerdem, Mehmet Sirac; Türk, ÖmerIn this study, the changes of the power spectral density (PSD) in the EEG data during eyes-closed and eyes-open states were analyzed. In the analysis, the interval of dominant frequencies was roughly determined with different approaches. The EEG signal is separated into sub bands with wavelet transform (WT). The Welch method which is the one of the classical methods was used for PSD prediction and the Burg and Yule-Walker parametric methods were used also for PSD prediction of the EEG signal. It was observed that the alpha rhythm is dominant band in the eyes closed state compared to eyes open state.Article Determination of in vitro antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of shoot and root extracts of Astragalus diphtherites FENZL var. diphtherites and Astragalus gymnalopecias RECH. For this purpose, a scale outline was firstly formed based on literature and was presented to experts to take their opinions. According to experts' feedback, nine items were taken from the outline. The obtained data was analyzed by superimposing the outline scale with 39-items on 363 teachers who work at primary schools. A construct of five-dimensional (altruist behaviors, empathy, justice, integrity, humility) and 36-items were produced at the end of Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). In the second stage, 262 teachers' views were obtained from the implementation of the developed scales were analyzed descriptively. According to the obtained results, it was determined that "School Principals Servant Leadership Behaviors Scale" (SPSLBS) was a valid and reliable measurement. Also, there are significant differences according to teachers' views on school principals servant leadership behaviors, based on factors such as teacher gender, duration of time working with current principals, school principals membership in professional associations, and whether or not the teacher and principal are in the same association.Article DID THE MOSSYNOIKOI WHISTLE?
