Book Part Ali Shariati(Palgrave Macmillan, Cham, 2023) Ateş, EnesThis entry examines Ali Shariati’s ideas, which provide a modern interpretation of emancipatory and revolutionary Islam in the context of Shia thought. Shariati merged political, social, and intellectual activism. He not only addressed internal divisions within Shiite Islam but also established a socially just and left-leaning model for Muslims worldwide to advocate for an Islamic alternative to Western methods of thinking. Leaving aside the validity of ambiguous labels such as “Islamic Marxism” or “socialist Islam,” Shariati’s Islamic interpretation is rooted in a socialist philosophical and ethical framework. He drew upon Islamic history and the Islamic canon, modifying his interpretation of pretext (tradition, history, and institutional structures) and text (canon) to create a revolutionary con-text, a revolutionary interpretation of Islam. His criticism of capitalism, as a manifestation of his economic understanding, combined with his interpretation of religion on both concrete and abstract levels and took on an activist character. Shariati’s economic and philosophical defense of a populist and social justice line fills his unique value in the history of thought. In addition to the specific conditions of Iran, these aspects demonstrate the intellectual adventure of the world’s Muslims.Article Analysis of Student Learning in Differential Equations Learning Area Based on Various Variables: The Case of Turkey and Ghana(Karbey Yayıncılık Eğitim ve Danışmanlık Hiz. San. Tic. Ltd. Şti. Kesit Yayınları, 2021) İnan, Cemil; Pişkin, Erhan; Bonyah, Ebenezer; İnan, CemilDevelopment of mathematical models for problems experienced in study areas is important for improvement in almost all scientific fields. The solution of a problem requires development of a mathematical equation (or a mathematical model) based on the properties of the problem in certain disciplines. Such an equation is generally a function with one unknown and an equation that includes the derivative (or differential) of this function. The equation which contains a function and its finite derivatives, is called a differential equation (Pisces 2018). The present study aimed to analyze the learning of college students in differential functions based on various variables in Turkey and that of Ghana. The study was conducted in two faculties of a public university (Engineering and Education Faculties) for a year in differential equations course on 300 students’ exams and applications for Turkey. The achievements of those students were analyzed based on the problems experienced by the students, the conceptual comprehension and operational comprehension, reasoning skills, misconceptions, transition between representations, and basic mathematics knowledge variables. A similar study was carried out in a faculty of technical education in Ghana with 300 students’ examination and application and their results were analyzed as it was done in the case of Turkey. The present study for the two countries adopted a descriptive approach based on screening models. Since it was possible to reach the whole population in the study for the two countries, the complete census method was used. The main difficulties experienced by the students in each country were determined as follows: inability to conduct the operations or to conduct incorrect operations due to the lack of basic mathematical knowledge, student focus on operational comprehension instead of conceptual comprehension, inability or indecision of the students in establishing the correlation between the algebraic and graphic representations of the differential equation in transfers between representations, misconception that dependent variable should always be identified by y and independent variable should always be identified by x (this could be due to a teacher habit), and although dx-2xydy2yey2dy could be easily solved by linearization, students’ preference to attempt to find the integral multiplier, leading to calculation errors. These difficulties were similar in within the two countries as if they were taught by same instructors. It can be argued that the achievements increased in the two groups of students when the applications that would eliminate these difficulties were conducted in the following topics, however a comprehensive study should be initiated to eliminate the lack of basic mathematical knowledge, and it would even be beneficial to study the OSYM selection system. It could be suggested that calculus as a concept should be taken serious to build the two groups of students competencies in differential equations.Article Application of muntz-legendre polynomials for solving complex differential equations(Sigma Journal of Engineering and Natural Sciences, 2021) Düşünceli, Faruk; Çelik, ErcanThis paper has obtained the numerical solutions of complex differential equations using the Müntz-Legendre Polynomials. The technique was performed on test problem. Then, different technical error analyses were applied to the test problem. Finally, when exact solutions and numerical solutions were compared with tables and graphs, it was realized that our method is practical and reliable.Article Approximation To Generalized Taylor Derivatives By Integral Operator Families(MSU J. of Sci, 2017) Akın, Lütfi; Zeren, YusufThis theory has important applications of polynomial approximation in various areas of functional analysis, Fourier analysis, application mathematic, operator theory, in the field generalized derivatives and numerical solutions of differential and integral equations, etc. The study of approximation theory is a well-established area of research which deals with the problem of approximating a function f by means of a sequence n L of positive linear operators. This theory is very important for mathematical world. Nowadays, many mathematicians are working in this field.Article Beef and milk price links in Turkey(2013) Saghaian Sayed; Özertan Gökhan; Tekgüç HasanThis article addresses the recent beef price spikes in Turkey, using contemporary time-series analysis. The arguments point to the impact of low milk prices that led to liquidation of dairy herds and decline of beef prices initially due to the liquidation and increased meat supply, and subsequent price increases in the next year due to decreased supply. The results revealed that dairy herd liquidation had a delayed impact of a year to 18 months on farm, wholesale, and retail beef prices, Those effects wore off over a two-year time period.Article Can entrepreneurial knowledge boost the entrepreneurial intent of French students? The mediation role of behavioral antecedents(Emerald, 2022) Almohammad, Dawoud; Durrah, Omar; Almohammad, Dawoud; Ahmed, FaisalPurpose: Entrepreneurial knowledge occupies a significant place in policy discourse and practice, especially in developed economies. This study aims to examine the effect of entrepreneurial knowledge on the components of entrepreneurial intent of undergraduate students. The authors seek to decipher a deeper understanding of their orientation for engaging in new ventures. In addition, we analyze the mediating role of behavioral antecedents between entrepreneurial knowledge and entrepreneurial intent. Design/methodology/approach: The authors collected the primary data of 400 undergraduate students from French universities and used structural equation modeling through Smart PLS software for testing several pertinent hypotheses. Findings: The study’s results revealed that entrepreneurial knowledge negatively affects students’ attitudes in choosing entrepreneurship in favor of a corporate job. In addition, entrepreneurial knowledge does not affect the social norms and self-efficacy that shape entrepreneurial intent. Interestingly, our study also revealed no mediating role between entrepreneurial knowledge and students’ self-efficacy. Originality/value: The findings of this study will contribute to the academic discourse on the role of entrepreneurial knowledge and its potential effect in promoting entrepreneurship. Furthermore, this study has policy implications and solicits developing entrepreneurship programs to enhance entrepreneurial intent among young people.Article Changing Policies of Turkey and the EU to the Syrian Conflict(2019) Kızılkan, Zelal BaşakThis paper analyses the reaction of the EU and Turkey to the Syrian crisis. In this context, it analyses the coherence among the member states in terms of policy priorities and strategies in approaching Syrian conflict by making particular reference to the restrictions aroused from regional setting. Secondly, Turkey’s changing policy priorities and strategies in the course of the Syrian conflict are analysed. Lastly, similarities and differences in the approaches of Turkey and the EU are evaluated.Article A Characterization of Approximation of Hardy Operators in VLS(Celal Bayar University Journal of Science, 2018) Akın, LütfiVariable exponent spaces and Hardy operator space have played an important role in recent harmonic analysis because they have an interesting norm including both local and global properties. The variable exponent Lebesgue spaces are of interest for their applications to modeling problems in physics, and to the study of variational integrals and partial differential equations with non-standard growth conditions. This studies also has been stimulated by problems of elasticity, fluid dynamics, calculus of variations, and differential equations with non-standard growth conditions. In this study, we will discuss a characterization of approximation of Hardy operators in variable Lebesgue spaces.Conference Object A Characterization of Homogeneous Fractional Hardy-Type Integrals on Variable Exponent Spaces(Conference Proceedings of Science and Technology, 2019) Akın, LütfiIn this study, we establish boundedness of homogeneous fractional Hardy-type integral on variable exponent spaces.Article CHINESE- SAUDI RELATIONS BALANCE UNDER CONDITIONS THE RISE of CHINA on THE INTERNATIONAL SCENE(Rimak International Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2020) mohamad rashidThere is an imbalance in the international balance of power, resulting from the collapse of a pole of global power, and the domination of the pole policy that imposed the uniqueness of the United States of America on the global level. And there are some forces that impose themselves on the international scene, and consider the Middle East and the Arab Gulf region to be among the most important areas of international competition in the current era, Because of its strategic location and its richness in oil, the engine of the global economy, so China seeks to enhance its influence and presence in the Middle East region, by maintaining security stability in the Arab Gulf region, enhancing trade and economic cooperation, and military cooperation between it and the countries of the region on both sides of the Gulf, especially Saudi Arabia. For religious and economic standing. The Saudi- Chinese relations witnessed a remarkable development after they were shy trade relations and receiving pilgrims, until China became the largest importer of Saudi oil, and military and defense cooperation also emerged significantly through ballistic missile deals, China also seeks to create a balance in its relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Iran, despite the competition and apparent differences between the neighbors in the Persian Gulf, and the continuing Iranian threats to the oil trade that passes through the Arabian Gulf.Book Part Circular Economy: A Comparative and Empirical Investigation on Turkey and the EU(Özgür Yayınları, 2022) Atay Polat, Melike; Çuhadar, PınarThe future projection for population growth, urbationization, the increasing GDP rate of middle-income countries and emerging economies, as well as their relation to resource extraction, production and trade levels are creating terrible scenarios for climate change and environmental degradation.Article The Cittaslow Philosophy in the Context of Sustainable Tourism Development; The Case of Turkey(Tourism Management, 2014) Ekinci, Mehmet BehzatThis paper studies the Cittaslow (slow city) philosophy in terms of sustainable tourism development (STD); and in this context research was undertaken for the case of Turkey. Cittaslow, a movement rooted in STD philosophy, aims to encourage the development of tranquil cities already known for their historical, natural, socio-cultural, and touristic features and the intention is to offer a significant contribution to systematic and rapid implementation of STD on a global scale. This paper, which makes a particular study of the practice of STD in Turkey, offers new candidate cities (Uzungöl, Hasankeyf, Safranbolu, Ürgüp, and İznik) and, thus, endeavours to contribute to the spread of STD throughout the whole country. In this study, above-named cities were found to be particularly good candidates for Cittaslow membership. In addition to these: Tatvan, Midyat, Alanya, and Fethiye were also found to be potential Cittaslows even though they fail to meet the population criterion.Article COMPACTIFICATION OF WEIGHTED HARDY OPERATOR IN VARIABLE EXPONENT LEBESGUES SPACES(Asian Journal of Mathematics and Computer Research, 2017) Akın, Lütfi; Zeren, Yusuf; AKIN, LutfiWe study necessity and sufficiency conditions for the weighted Hardy operator x v w H f x v x f t w t dt 0 , ( ) ( ) ( ) ( ) to be compact from Lp(.) A qualitative field research comprising in-depth interviews was conducted with 32 construction workers in Diyarbakır to examine subcontracting in Turkey’s construction sector. The findings show that by defining construction labour in terms of physical capacity, an outcome of the labour conditions shaped by the practice of subcontracting, construction work have become naturalised as a man’s job. The findings also illustrate how construction produces different masculinities that intersect with the understanding of working class shaped by the role of men being the head of the family rather than a single notion of manhood shaped by physical working conditions. Nevertheless, the male worker culture that feeds off different masculinities still retains the power to dominate and exclude women as workers from the construction site, e.g. through means of sexual harassment.Book Part CONSUMER CREDITS AND MACHINE LEARNING(Eğitim yayınevi, 2023) Aksu, MervanThe fusion of consumer credit analysis with machine learning algorithms has revolutionized credit risk assessment, providing banks with more efficient and reliable methods for evaluating creditworthiness. By leveraging these advanced techniques, banks can enhance their risk management practices, reduce the ratio of non-performing loans, and ultimately contribute to their profitability and stability in the financial market. As machine learning continues to evolve, it is likely to play an increasingly critical role in the financial sector and beyond.Article Corporate Governance and Performance of Islamic Banks: A Comparative Study of Banks in Malaysia and the GCC Countries(Anemon Muş Alparslan Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Dergisi, 2020) Önal, Mehmet MaksudThis paper contributes to the literature by discussing the relationship between corporate governance and performance of Islamic banks operating in Malaysia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The effects of board independence and board size on performance are examined by using relevant analyses. The paper finds that there was a significant and negative relationship between ROA and board independence and it was also a significant predictor of ROE. Malaysian banks were performed better than the GCC banks by comparing the average ROE and ROA and they also had more independent directors. According to the univariate test results, Malaysian banks were performed better than the GCC banks in terms of ROE and Tobin`s Q.Article Cultural trauma and the politics of access to higher education in Syria(Taylor & Francis, 2020) Aloklah, Wıssam AldıenThis paper examines the relationship between the politics of Higher Education access pertaining to longstanding practices of patrimonial authoritarian politics and the narration of collective trauma. Building on an empirical study of Syrian HE during war, we suggest that a narrative disjuncture within HEIs has a damaging impact not only upon the educational process, HE reconstruction and reform, but also upon the possibility of social reconciliation. This is especially true when access to education and post-graduation opportunities are directly linked to patrimonial favouritism; widespread social inequalities in access and retention; a violent turn in the purging of oppositional academics; a severely exacerbated brain drain linked to political views; and significantly sparser employment opportunities. Building on the study findings, we show how these challenges are linked to ethico-political positioning vis-à-vis the mass movement of 2011 and related cultural trauma narratives. In closing, we suggest that understanding the relationship between HE access and cultural trauma can inform decision-making on HE reconstruction and future reform.thesis.listelement.badge Determinant of the Export Performance of Small and Medium Sized Companies: Case of the Turkish SMEs(University of Leicester, School of Management, 2013) Altun, İslamSmall and medium-sized companies have gained more popularity and attention in the international business market. Thus, exporting activity becomes one of the main aims for SMEs in order to attain more benefit from international business. In this perspective, influencing factors of the export performance has gained attention in business literature. The aim of this study is to explain the determinant of export performance of small and medium sized companies, focusing on internal influencing factors; managerial level factors, firm level factors and external influencing factors. The previous studies have attempted to investigate the relations between internal and external factor of companies and export performance. This research based on literature review and case study which is two Turkish small and medium sized companies. Data of this research has been collected through semi-structured interview. According to companies’ data export performance of the companies strongly related with internal and external factors. In addition, this research showed that some factors directly affects the export performance, some other factors have indirectly affects the export performance although a few factor have no influence on export performance of the companies. Due to the companies which are run in different business sectors and exporting to the different countries, different factors have different influence on export performance of the companies.Article Determinants of the economic adaptation of refugees: the case of Midyat Camp(2021) Aljasem, Abdulnaser; Abedtalas, Musallam; Lokman Toprak, Wissam Aldien Aloklah, Abdulhamid Alawak, Şehmus Aykol; Toprak, Lokman; Abedtalas, Musallam; Al Jasem, AbdulnaserIn the context of the bottom-up approach to development and poverty reduction, this is the first study to use the Sustainable Livelihood Approach (SLA), with a slight adjustment, to study the economic adaptation of refugees within camps. The object- ive of this study was to explore the factors affecting the economic adaptation of refugees in Midyat Refugee Camp in Turkey. The study used a focus group to help design the questionnaire that was subsequently used to collect data from a sample of 393 households in Midyat Camp. The data was used to estimate a Structural Equations Model. The findings indicated that the most important factors in deter- mining refugees’ economic adaptation are human capital, social capital and institutions.
