Recent studies have reported this herb family to contain numbers of bioactive compound contents. The study aims to investigate the protective effects of Hypericum triquetrifolium Turra (HT) upon oxidative stress and apoptosis in a rat model in which testes injury was induced by CP. The testicular injury was caused using CP (150 mg/kg). The rats were treated with a single dose (100 mg/kg) of methanol extract of HT to investigate various biochemical markers in the serum and plasma of blood samples apart from assessing the prognosis of CP-induced testicular damage. Added to that, histological analyses were performed to identify possible structural changes and apoptotic indicators, like Bax, Caspase-3, and Bcl-2. In CP Group, there was a rise in the levels of total oxidant status (TOS), malondialdehyde (MDA), oxidative stress index (OSI), Caspase-3, and Bax while superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione (GSH), Bcl-2, and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) all decreased. Also, our histological analysis showed damaged testes. On the other hand, neither biochemical nor histological analysis showed testicular damage in HT Alone Group. In CP + HT Group, a significant number of the negatives changes due to CP were observed to have improved remarkably following an HT treatment. Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiThe present study investigates the antioxidant, anticancer, anticholinesterase, anti-genotoxic activities and phenolic contents of flower, fruit and seed methanol extracts of Hypericum retusum AUCHER. The amounts of protocatechuic acid, catechin, caffeic acid and syringic acid in methanol extracts were determined by HPLC. Total phenolic content of H. retusum seed extract was found more than fruit and flower extracts. The DPPH free radical scavenging activity of flower and seed methanol extracts showed close activity versus BHT as control. Among three extracts of H. retusum only flower methanol extract was exhibited considerable cytotoxic activities against to HeLa and NRK-52E cell lines. Moreover, seed methanol extract showed both acetyl and butyrl-cholinesterase inhibitory activity. The highest anti-genotoxic effects were seen 25 and 50 μg/mL concentrations. In this study, the extracts showed a strong antioxidant and anti-genotoxic effect. The seed extract was more efficient- than extracts of fruit and flowers. Our results suggest that the antioxidant and anti-genotoxic effects of extracts depend on their phenolic contents. Further studies should evaluate the in-vitro and in-vivo the benefits of H. retusum seed methanol extracts. © 2017 by School of Pharmacy.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Confounding Factors in the Tear Break-Up Time Test. Influence of Sequential Measurements(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2025) Acet, Yakup; Dag, YasarClinical relevance The tear break-up time (BUT) test is important in diagnosing and monitoring tear film stability, and understanding potential changes in tear film dynamics during repeated measurements could improve the accuracy and reliability of the test in clinical practice. Background The study aimed to examine the changes in BUT value caused by subsequent measurements made in BUT test. Methods A total of 120 female participants were divided into groups (30 individuals each). Participants were divided into four groups based on the interval between two non-invasive tear break-up time (NI-BUT) tests: Group 1 (1-minute interval), Group 5 (5-minute interval), Group 10 (10-minute interval), and Group 15 (15-minute interval). The first NI-BUT test was called Initial NI-BUT (NI-BUT(I)), and the second test was called Subsequent NI-BUT (NI-BUT(S)). The first BUTvalue (BUT1st), the second BUT value (BUT2nd), the third BUT value (BUT3rd), the fourth BUT value (BUT4th), the fifth BUT value (BUT5th), and the average value of the first three BUTs (BUTA3) were compared between the NI-BUT(1) and NI-BUT(S) tests. Results Participant ages ranged from 18 to 36 years, with a mean of 25.1 +/- 3.2 years. The mean values of BUT1st, BUT2(nd), BUT3(rd), BUT4(th), BUT5(th), and BUTA3 in the NI-BUT(I) test were statistically significantly shorter than those in the NI-BUT(S) test for all groups (p < 0.05). The changes in the parameters were statistically significantly greater in Group 1 compared to the other groups (p < 0.05). Conclusions Subsequent measurements cause increased BUT values. The longer the interval between two measurements, the smaller the differences between the subsequent measurements. When performing the BUT test, a single measurement should be preferred if possible. If the clinician finds the results of a single measurement unsatisfactory and wishes to consider the average of multiple measurements, the interval between tests should be longer than 15 minutes.Article Citation - WoS: 8Citation - Scopus: 8Enhancing Vehicle Fault Diagnosis Through Multi-View Sound Analysis: Integrating Scalograms and Spectrograms in a Deep Learning Framework(Springer London Ltd, 2025) Akbalik, Ferit; Yildiz, Abdulnasir; Ertugrul, Omer Faruk; Zan, HasanThis study presents a comprehensive framework for vehicle fault diagnosis using engine sound signals, leveraging deep learning models and a multi-view approach. Traditional methods for vehicle fault diagnosis often rely on the expertise of mechanics or diagnostic tools, which can be costly, time-consuming, and may not always provide accurate results. To address these limitations, we propose CarFaultNet, a multi-view model that processes both scalograms and spectrograms simultaneously to capture complementary information from these time-frequency representations. Our approach incorporates transfer learning with pretrained convolutional neural networks, including AlexNet, GoogLeNet, ShuffleNet, SqueezeNet, and MobileNet v2, as well as CarFaultNet, which combines two MobileNet networks. The results demonstrate that CarFaultNet outperforms traditional machine learning methods and single-view deep learning models, achieving a precision of 95.32%, recall of 94.83%, F1-score of 94.99%, and accuracy of 95.00%. Class activation mapping visualizations provide valuable insights into the model's decision-making process, highlighting the regions of the input images that are most influential for the classification of different vehicle faults. By leveraging a large, diverse dataset encompassing various vehicle models and real-world operating conditions, our approach addresses the drawbacks of previous studies and demonstrates the potential of deep learning for practical and effective vehicle fault diagnosis.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 2Effects of spinal stabilization exercises focusing on the pelvic floor in women with overactive bladder(Springer, 2023) Toprak Şelenay, Ceyda; Korkut, Zehra; Bülbül, Saliha Beste; Altay, Hafize; Oskay, KemalIntroduction and hypothesis: The objective was to investigate the effects of spinal stabilization exercises (SSEs) focusing on the pelvic floor with regard to urinary symptoms, pelvic floor muscle strength (PFMS), core stability, quality of life (QoL), and perception of subjective improvement (PSI) in women with overactive bladder (OAB). Methods: Patients were randomly divided into SSE (n=23) and control (n=24) groups. The SSE group received SSEs focusing on the pelvic floor for 3 days a week for 8 weeks and recommendation. The control group received only recommendation. Before (BT) and after treatment (AT), urinary symptoms were evaluated with Overactive Bladder Questionnaire-Version 8 (OAB-V8) and bladder diary. PFMS, core stability, and QoL were assessed using the Modified Oxford Scale (MOS), Sharman test, and King's Health Questionnaire (KHQ) respectively. AT, PSI with a Likert-type scale, and compliance with recommendations using a visual analog scale were assessed. Results: The OAB-V8 and the KHQ scores, the number of voids per day and voids per night decreased and the MOS and the Sharman scores increased in the SSE group (p<0.05). In the control group, the OAB-V8 and incontinence effect, social limitations, emotional state, and sleep sub-dimension scores related to KHQ decreased (p<0.05). The OAB-V8, role and physical limitations, emotional state, and sleep sub-dimension scores decreased more, and the MOS, the Sharman, the PSI, and the compliance with recommendations scores increased more in the SSE group than in the control group (p<0.05). Conclusions: The SSEs focusing on the pelvic floor improved urinary symptoms, PFMS, core stability, QoL, and PSI. This exercise approach may be beneficial in the management of OAB.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Association Between Abo Blood Group, Peripheral Artery Disease Lesion Severity, and Coronary Artery Disease Coexistence(Elsevier Science Inc, 2025) Evsen, Ali; Aktan, Adem; Kilic, Raif; Ozbek, MehmetBackground: This study aims to investigate the relationship between ABO blood groups and the severity of peripheral artery disease (PAD) lesions, the coexistence of coronary artery disease (CAD) with PAD, and to identify which blood groups may be more predisposed to these conditions. Methods: This study, which has a single-center and retrospective design, includes 305 patients diagnosed with peripheral artery disease (PAD) between 2015 and 2021. The patients were selected from those with at least 50% stenosis detected by computed tomography (CT) angiography. The severity of PAD lesions was evaluated according to the TransAtlantic Inter-Society Consensus (TASC-II) classification, and the presence of CAD was determined by simultaneous conventional coronary angiography. Demographic data, comorbidities, and laboratory results were collected, and statistical analyses were performed using chi-square tests, logistic regression, and t-tests. All of these patients were divided into 2 groups based on their ABO blood types: O and non-O blood groups. Results: This study demonstrates a significant relationship between blood group classification and both the severity of PAD and the prevalence of CAD. Patients with non-O blood groups exhibited a higher likelihood of having severe PAD lesions (TASC-C and TASC-D) compared to those with O blood groups, who more frequently had milder lesions (TASC-A and TASC-B) (P < 0.001). The prevalence of CAD was also significantly higher among patients with non-O blood groups than those with the O blood group (54.4% vs. 36.4%; P = 0.003). In the logistic regression analysis, non-O blood groups, alongside age, hypertension (HT), and chronic kidney disease (CKD), emerged as independent predictors of severe PAD (P < 0.001 for non-O blood groups). Similarly, older age and non-O blood group status were identified as significant independent predictors of CAD (P = 0.004). These findings suggest that blood group classification, particularly non-O groups, may influence the severity and coexistence of PAD and CAD.
Conclusion: Our study reveals a significant association between ABO blood groups and both the severity of PAD and the association of CAD, and shows that non-O blood groups are linked to more severe forms of these conditions. These findings highlight the potential role of ABO blood groups in cardiovascular risk stratification, suggesting a need for further research to confirm these associations and understand their clinical implications.Article Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 4The Investigation of the Relations Between Paternalistic Leadership, Organizational Creativity and Organizational Dissent(Research in Educational Administration and Leadership, 2021) Ağalday, Bünyamin; Dağlı, AbidinThe research aims to determine the relationship between public primary school principals' paternalistic leadership behaviours and teachers' organizational creativity and organizational dissent perception levels according to primary school teachers' perceptions. A quantitative correlational design was utilized in the research. The research sample consists of 1059 public primary schoolteachers selected by stratified sampling method in Mardin city center and eight districts of Mardin during the 2016-2017 academic year. The data of the research were obtained by using the "Headmasters' Paternalistic Leadership Behaviours Scale," "Organizational Creativity Scale," and "Organizational Dissent Scale. "The data analysis revealed the following findings: There was a positive and significant correlation between the paternalistic leadership behaviours of primary school administrators and teachers' perceptions toward organizational creativity and organizational dissent. Also, paternalistic leadership behaviours of primary school administrators were found to be a significant predictor of teachers' perceptions toward organizational creativity and organizational dissent. The principals should exhibit benevolent leadership behaviours that enhance the teachers' organizational creativity perceptions, such as endeavouring to create a family milieu in school, being tolerant of teachers, and supporting teachers to take the initiative.Article Seasonal Changes in Fatty Acid Composition of chondrostoma Regium Lipids(inst Animal Reproduction & Food Research Polish Acad Sciences Olsztyn, 2024) Kacar, Semra; Kaya, Hacer Kayhan; Bashan, MehmetThis study examined seasonal variations in fatty acid composition of the phospholipid (PL) fraction, triacylglycerol (TAG) fraction, and phospholipid subclass (phosphatidylcholine, PC; phosphatidylinositol, PI; phosphatidylserine, PS; and phosphatidylethanolamine, PE) of muscle tissue of Chondrostoma regium, a freshwater fish inhabiting the Munzur River (Turkey). It was found that the percentages of total monounsaturated fatty acids, myristic acid (C14:0), palmitoleic acid (C16:1n7), oleic acid (C18:1n9), linoleic acid (C18:2n6), and linolenic acid (C18:3n3) were higher in TAG fraction than in the PL fraction. The ratio of total polyunsaturated fatty acids to total saturated fatty acids was 1.44-1.85, the atherogenicity index ranged from 0.36 to 0.46, while the thrombogenicity index was determined to be between 0.17 and 0.21 in total lipids. The n3/n6 ratio ranged from 6.55 to 10.49. The fatty acid levels of the PL and PL subclasses, TAG, and total lipid were influenced by the season. Throughout the year, palmitic acid (C16:0), C18:1n9, eicosapentaenoic acid (C20:5n3, EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (C22:6n3, DHA) were the most abundant in PC. In PE, the share of n3 fatty acids decreased from November to April, and percentages of EPA, DHA and docosapentaenoic acid (C22:5n3) were high among the n3 fatty acids. The predominant fatty acids in PI were stearic acid (C18:0) and arachidonic acid (C20:4n6), and throughout the year, the share of C18:0 was the highest in November. In the PS fraction, the percentages of C16:1n7 and C18:1n9 were high. The present study investigated the changes in hematologic parameters to evaluate whether they predict mortality or major bleeding. We enrolled 248 consecutive patients (44.8% male; mean age 79.0 ± 6.4 years) undergoing TAVR. In addition to demographic and clinical examination, blood parameters were recorded before TAVR, at discharge, 1 month and 1 year. Hemoglobin levels before TAVR 12.1 ± 1.8 g/dL, 10.8 ± 1.7 g/dL at discharge, 11.7 ± 1.7 g/dL at first month, 11.8 ± 1.4 g/dL at first year (Hemoglobin values compared with pre-TAVR, P < .001, P = .019, P = .047, respectively). Mean platelet volume (MPV) before TAVR 8.72 ± 1.71 fL, 8.16 ± 1.46 fL at discharge, 8.09 ± 1.44 fL at first month, 7.94 ± 1.18 fL at first year (MPV values compared with pre-TAVR, P < .001, P < .001, P < .001, respectively). Other hematologic parameters were also evaluated. Hemoglobin, platelet count, MPV, and red cell distribution width before the procedure, at discharge, and at the first year did not predict mortality and major bleeding in receiver operating characteristic analysis. After multivariate Cox regression analysis, hematologic parameters were not independent predictors of in-hospital mortality, major bleeding, and death at 1 year after TAVR.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 3Effect of Auricular Acupressure in Management of Constipation in Palliative Care Patients(Sage Journals Home, 2023) Bıçak Ayık, Derya; Can, GülbeyazObjectives: This experimental randomized-controlled study was performed to define the efficacy of auricular acupressure (AA) in the management of constipation developing in palliative care patients. Methods: According to the pre-prepared randomization list, 44 patients were included in the experimental group and 46 patients were included in the control group. Routine clinical treatment and care implementation were maintained in the patients in both groups. AA was performed for 4 weeks in patients in the experimental group. During the study, to determine the complaints of the patients regarding constipation, the information in the daily patient chart was examined at least 5 times by interviewing with the patient/patient's relative in the clinic and/or via phone call, and the results were recorded in the patient chart and data collection forms. The independent variable of the study is AA application, and the dependent variables are constipation and quality of life. Results: It was determined that there was no statistically significant difference between the daily defecation frequency of the 2 groups during the first 11 days. However, after the 12th day, the daily stool frequency of the experimental group was higher compared to the control group and this difference obtained between the 2 groups was statistically significantly different. AA was effective in decreasing laxative use. Conclusion: This intervention increased stool frequency, reduced physical and psychosocial symptoms, anxieties, and improved stool satisfaction and it was an effective approach to improving the quality of life. It is recommended that the daily use of AA should be evaluated. The healthcare providers including nurses, patients, and patient relatives should be trained regarding AA.Article Citation - WoS: 3Citation - Scopus: 3Stripe Rust Partial Resistance Increases Spring Bread Wheat Yield in South-eastern Anatolia, Turkey(WILEY-BLACKWELL, 2016) Aktaş, Hüsnü; Zencirci, NusretStripe rust caused by Puccinia striiformis f.sp. tritici is the most serious disease of wheat globally including south-eastern Anatolia of Turkey, where wheat originated. In this study, 12 spring wheat genotypes were artificially inoculated and preserved in two locations, Diyarbakr and Adyaman, during the 2011-2012 season to investigate loss in yield and yield components. Genotypes were evaluated at the adult plant stage using two partial resistance parameters: final disease severity and area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC). AUDPC ranged from 14.8 to 860 in Diyarbakr, and 74 to 760 in Adyaman. Yield loss ranged from 0.6 to 68.5% in Diyarbakr and 9.8 to 56.8% in Adyaman. Genotypes G1, G5, G7 and G8 were found to lose less yield, while higher yield loss was observed in G3, G4 (Nurkent), G5 and G9 (Karacada-98). The highest loss in thousand kernel weight was observed in a susceptible cultivar Karacada-98 in Diyarbakr followed by 43.4 and 24.4% in Adyaman. Test weight loss reached 8.89% in Diyarbakr and 20.8% in Adyaman. Yield loss and AUDPC had a positive significant relationship. Based on the values of AUDPC, final disease severity and yield loss, three major clusters were formed for 12 wheat genotypes. Partially resistant genotypes were found to lose less grain yield and seemed to be stronger against severe stripe rust pressure.Article Citation - WoS: 9Citation - Scopus: 10FPGA simulation of chaotic tent map-based S-Box design(Wiley Online Library, 2022) Türk, ÖmerThe chaotic system has a characteristically random behavior by nature, and these systems have their own characteristics in a completely deterministic structure. This feature of a chaotic system makes it difficult to predict encryptions designed based on such a system. Thanks to this unpredictable and strong feature, maps produced from chaotic systems are an important alternative in the field of encryption. One of the structures obtained by employing chaotic maps is the substitution box. S-Box, which provides the confusion principle used in block ciphers, is the main block that dynamically replaces unencrypted data with confidential data and makes a significant contribution to ensuring high security in the encryption system. Therefore, S-Boxes hold a critical role in block ciphers. Speed and reliability are important parameters in the creation of this main block. Especially, applications performed on hardware are more reliable and high performance. Therefore, in this study, an S-Box was designed using fieldprogrammable gate arrays (FPGA) simulation from a chaotic tent map to create a fast and reliable S-Box because FPGAs offer solutions that may be important in this field considering their fast and customizable architecture. In the proposed method, the S-Box was created in 0.16 s. In addition, the dynamic properties of the chaotic tent map were analyzed with Lyapunov exponents, and the NIST SP 800-22 test was applied for the information encryption suitability of the proposed chaotic system. Also, to test the reliability of the produced S-Box structures, SAC, non-linearity, bit independence criteria, and input/output XOR distribution table metrics were implemented. Pear fruit with unusual brown to black spots and rot symptoms observed in public marketplaces in Mardin province have raised concerns regarding postharvest fruit health. The consistent isolation of a fungus from these fruits revealed morphological features indicative of Neoscytalidium dimidiatum. Phylogenetic confirmation of its identity ensued through BLASTn searches targeting, the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) of ribosomal DNA, the partial translation elongation factor 1-alpha gene (tef1), and the partial beta-tubulin gene (tub2). Pathogenicity evaluations were conducted on common pome fruits, namely pears, apples, and quinces, unveiling the susceptibility of all examined fruits to postharvest infection by this emergent pathogen. Furthermore, an investigation was carried out to discern the pathogen's response to varying temperature ranges on pear fruits, revealing that the most pronounced lesions occurred at 30 degrees C, followed by 25 degrees C, 35 degrees C, and 20 degrees C. Conversely, no lesion development was observed at 10 degrees C, 15 degrees C, or 40 degrees C. To the best of our knowledge, this study represents the first report of N. dimidiatum as the etiological agent responsible for postharvest rot in pear fruit. Phenylketonuria (PKU) and biotinidase deficiency (BD) are autosomal recessive diseases. If they are not identified and treated early, severe intellectual disability and developmental delay occur. This study was conducted to calculate the ten-year incidence of PKU and BD in the Diyarbakır province of Turkey. Methods. This cross-sectional study included patients born between 2011-2020 and diagnosed with PKU and BD. Patients with a clear diagnosis had their records evaluated retrospectively. Results. Between 2011 and 2020, blood was taken from 417,525 newborns’ heels in Diyarbakir province. As a result of further diagnostic testing, 53 PKU (Incidence: 1:7878) and 177 BD (Incidence: 1:2359) were detected. Of the patients with BD, 56% had profound BD and 44% had partial BD. The records of a total of 269 patients (PKU: 25; BD: 123; Hyperphenylalaninemia: 121) were examined. Parents of 65% (n=15) of the patients diagnosed with PKU and 46.6% (n=55) of the patients diagnosed with BD were consanguineous. Conclusions. The incidence of both PKU and BD was found to be high in our region. First, The KD system being Nonlinear partial differential equations system is transformed into nonlinear ordinary differential equation by using a wave transformation. Last, the resulting equation is successfully explored for new explicit exact solutions including singular soliton, kink, and periodic wave solutions. All the obtained solutions in this study satisfy the Konopelchenko-Dubrovsky model. Determination of bioactive compounds and biological activity of plants lead to understanding their potential in drug development. Methods: A quantitative analysis of the bioactive compounds in leaf, stem, and root extracts of C. olitorius L. was carried out with Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and Glutathione-S-Transferase (GST) enzyme inhibition and antibacterial effects were investigated using Mueller Hinton broth microdilution assay. The anticancer activity of C. olitorius leaves was evaluated by MTT assay using HDF, U87, Skov-3, and Caco-2 cell lines. Results: In the quantitative study, leaf extract exhibited the largest concentration of bioactive compounds, and cynarin (6.680 mg/g extract) and chlorogenic acid (5.605 mg/g extract) were the major products. The leaf, stem, and root extracts showed significant AChE and GST inhibition activity. The leaf extract displayed antibacterial activity against P. aeruginosa with the value of 2.2 +/- 0.1 (IC50, mu g/ mL) in comparison to the standard (4.00 +/- 0.1 IC50, mu g/ mL). The leaf extract displayed good antiproliferative activity against sk-ov-3 cell lines with values of 37.1% and 42.1% at 250 mu g/mL and 500 mu g/mL concentrations, respectively. A market survey revealed that 5% of fruit exhibited fruit rot symptoms, a subset of which displayed stem-end rot symptoms, including brown to black lesions extending into the mesocarp, shrivelling and fungal mycelium growth. Fusarium equiseti was identified as the causal agent through morphological characterisation and molecular analysis using PCR amplification and sequencing of translation elongation factor 1-alpha (tef1) and RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (rpb2) gene sequences, including phylogenetic analysis. Artificial inoculation and subsequent re-isolation confirmed Koch's postulates, verifying F. equiseti as the causal pathogen. Therefore, it is important to detect these microorganisms quickly, easily, at a low cost and with accuracy. Biosensors have all of these features and offer a unique way to detect microorganisms. They are already being used in similar fields and are becoming increasingly portable and ergonomic devices. This paper looks at the uses of biosensors in detecting disease-causing bacteria and how their use will develop with greater technology. Outbreaks caused by pathogenic bacteria are a global concern, not only for human health but also for food safety and bioterrorism. Also, this method proposes an invasive and robust solution to the variances in data acquisition and class distribution imbalances. In this paper, a transfer learning approach, specifically ResNet-50 type pre-trained 2D-Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) was used to automatically classify ADHD and healthy children. The results demonstrated that ResNet-50 architecture with 10-k cross-validation (CV) achieves an overall classification accuracy of 93.45%. The interpretation of the results was done via the Class Activation Map (CAM) analysis which showed that children with ADHD differed from controls in a wide range of brain areas including frontal, parietal and temporal lobes.
