Article The Potential Renoprotective Effect of Sugammadex in Renal Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury(Galenos Publ House, 2025) Kolukcu, Vildan; Bala, Mehtap Gurler; Sahin, Ahmet Tugrul; Genc, Ali; Unsal, Velid; Firat, Fatih; Gurpinar, Ahmer BurakObjective: We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of sugammadex on renal tissue for against ischemia-reperfusion injury. Methods: Twenty-one Wistar albino strain female rats were divided into three groups. The first group functioned as the control cohort for comparison. In Groups 2 and 3, a renal ischemia-reperfusion model was established. Moreover, following the cessation of ischemia, the rats in Group 3 were intravenously administered sugammadex at a dose of 4 mg kg-1. Blood and tissue samples were subsequently collected for analysis. Results: Biochemical analyses revealed a notable increase in the enzymatic activities of glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase in Group 3 relative to Group 2 (P < 0.001 and P=0.015, respectively). Additionally, the concentration of malondialdehyde was found to be significantly reduced in Group 3 relative to Group 2 (P=0.004). Group 3 exhibited a substantial decrease in tumor necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin 6, and interleukin 1 beta levels when compared to Group 2 (P=0.021, P=0.006, and P=0.016 respectively). Group 2 exhibited the highest concentrations of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin and kidney injury molecule-1 (P < 0.001 and P=0.015, respectively). Similarly, the histopathologic tissue damage was the most prominent in Group 2 (P < 0.001). Conclusion: Sugammadex plays a protective role against ischaemia-reperfusion injury in renal tissue.Article Decarbonizing Buildings With Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC): Climate-Specific Meta-Analysis of Global Performance(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2025) Azhar, Jasim; Aydin, Serdar; Zami, Mohammad SharifThe building sector, which accounts for 40% of global energy consumption and 36% of CO2 emissions, requires immediate access to scalable low-carbon materials. The theoretical thermal advantages of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) remain incomplete because field performance reports show inconsistent results between 15% and 50% energy savings, and multiple unaddressed implementation challenges have prevented its strategic adoption. The systematic review used worldwide climate-based empirical data to resolve existing performance discrepancies and develop practical implementation strategies. The meta-analysis of 12 studies comprising 847 dwelling units, assessed using CASP and ROBINS-I quality tools, showed that energy savings depend on climate zone: hot-arid zones achieving 48.3% (95% CI: 42.1-54.5%), cold-temperate zones 32.7% (27.3-38.1%), and hot-humid zones 28.4% (22.9-33.9%). The strongest predictor of performance was cooling degree days (beta = 0.0089, p < 0.001), while implementation quality explained 26% of performance variation. Economic modelling revealed median payback periods from 4.2 years (hot-arid) to 9.7 years (cold-temperate), with a 78-92% probability of positive lifetime returns. Carbon pricing at $50/tCO(2) reduces payback by 23%. The research develops a climate-oriented analytical system that analyses performance variations to help designers and policymakers achieve maximum AAC decarbonization results by combining environmental data with system information and financial metrics. [GRAPHICS] .Article Citation - WoS: 11Citation - Scopus: 12The Effectiveness of HALP Score in Predicting Mortality in Non-ST Myocardial Infarction Patients(Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, 2025) Kiliç, R.; Guzel, T.; Aktan, A.; Güzel, H.; Kaya, A.F.; Çankaya, Y.Background: The HALP score, measured based on hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet levels, is regarded as a novel scoring system that indicates the status of systemic inflammation and nutritional health. Our study aimed to evaluate the relationship between HALP score and prognosis in non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) patients. Methods Between 1 January 2020 and 1 January 2022, 568 consecutive patients diagnosed with NSTEMI from a single center were included in the study retrospectively. The patients were divided into two equal groups according to the median HALP cutoff value of 44.05. Patients were followed for at least 1 year from the date of admission. Results The average age of the patients was 62.3±10.6 years and 43.7% were female. In-hospital and 1-year mortality were found to be significantly higher in the group with low HALP scores (6.0 vs. 2.1%, P=0.019 and 22.5 vs. 9.9%, P<0.001, respectively). In receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, a cutoff level of 34.6 of the HALP score predicted 1-year mortality with 71% sensitivity and 65% specificity (area under the curve: 0.707, 95% confidence interval: 0.651-0.762, P<0.001). In Kaplan-Meier analysis, higher mortality rates were observed over time in the group with lower HALP scores (log-rank test=16.767, P<0.001). In Cox regression analysis, the HALP score was found to be an independent predictor of 1-year mortality (odds ratio: 0.969, 95% confidence interval: 0.958-0.981, P<0.001). Conclusion We found that a low HALP score could predict in-hospital and 1-year mortality in patients admitted to the hospital with a diagnosis of NSTEMI. © © 2024 Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. A total of 18 male rats were randomised into three groups. Group 1 was the control group. A priapism model was performed rats in Group 2 and then ischaemia-reperfusion injury was evaluated. Group 3 had similar procedures to the rats in Group 2. Rats in Group 3 additionally had 100 μg/kg dexmedetomidine administered intraperitoneally immediately after reperfusion. Blood and tissue samples were analysed. Biochemical analysis of blood samples revealed a decrease in the levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokines including interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 Beta), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) in Group 3 compared to Group 2 (p:.04, p:.009 and p:.009, respectively). Similarly, the highest malondialdehyde (MDA) level was in Group 2 (p:.002). The levels of antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activities were significantly higher in Group 3 than that of Group 2 (p:.037 and p:.045, respectively). Direct microscopic examinations revealed positive changes in desquamation, oedema, inflammation and vasocongestion scores in Group 3 compared to Group 2 (p:.007, p:.008, p:.007 and p:.006, respectively). Methodology/Design/Approach – Eleven key stakeholders representing tourism organisations in Portugal were interviewed to obtain qualitative data. A content analysis was then conducted to uncover themes and sub-themes. Findings – The results show two main themes, including sub-themes: Gender inequality (partial gender equality, lack of gender salary equality, lack of women in higher positions, and gender inequality in career advancement) and work-life balance (the difficulty of balancing work and personal/family life and the need for better conditions for women accompanying children). Originality of the research – his study highlights gender equality and work-life balance in the tourism and hospitality industry from the perspective of managers of the leading tourism organisations in Portugal. In our study, we investigated the effect of body mass index (BMI) on CIED-related complications. Methods: 1676 patients who had undergone CIED surgery (de novo implantation, system upgrade, generator change, pocket revision or lead replacement) at two heart centers in Turkey and met the study criteria were included in our study. For analysis of primary and secondary endpoints, patients were classified as non-obese (BMI < 25 kg/m2), overweight (25 ≤ BMI < 30 kg/m2), and obese (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2). The primary endpoint was accepted as cumulative events, including the composite ofclinically significant hematoma (CSH), pericardial effusion or tamponade, pneumoth- orax, and infection related to the device system. Secondary outcomes included each component of cumulative events. Results: The rate of cumulative events, defined as primary outcome, was higher in the obese patient group, and we found a significant difference between the groups (3.0%, 4.3%, 8.9%, p = .001). CSH and pneumothorax rates were significantly higher in the obese patient group (0.3%, 0.9%, 1.9%, p = .04; 1.0%, 1.4%, 3.3%, p = .04, respectively). According to our multivariate model analysis; gender (OR:1.882, 95%CI:1.156–3.064, p = .01), hypertension (OR:4.768, 95%CI:2.470–9.204, p < .001), BMI (OR:1.069, 95%CI:1.012–1.129, p = .01) were independent predictors of cumulative events rates. Identifying the TRD population is crucial in terms of saving time and resources in depression treatment. Recently several studies employed various methods on EEG datasets for automatic depression detection or treatment outcome prediction. However, no previous study has used the deep learning (DL) approach and EEG signals for detecting treatment resistance. Method: 77 patients with TRD, 43 patients with non-TRD, and 40 healthy controls were compared using GoogleNet convolutional neural network and DL on EEG data. Additionally, Class Activation Maps (CAMs) acquired from the TRD and non-TRD groups were used to obtain distinctive regions for classification. Results: GoogleNet classified the healthy controls and non-TRD group with 88.43%, the healthy controls and TRD subjects with 89.73%, and the TRD and non-TRD group with 90.05% accuracy. The external validation accuracy for the TRD-non-TRD classification was 73.33%. Finally, the CAM analysis revealed that the TRD group contained dominant features in class detection of deep learning architecture in almost all electrodes. Limitations: Our study is limited by the moderate sample size of clinical groups and the retrospective nature of the study. Conclusion: These findings suggest that EEG-based deep learning can be used to classify treatment resistance in depression and may in the future prove to be a useful tool in psychiatry practice to identify patients who need more vigorous intervention.Article Seasonal Variation on Phospholipid Classes, Triacylglycerols and Atherogenic, Thrombogenic Indices of Male chondrostoma Regium(Japan Oil Chemists Soc, 2024) Kacar, Semra; Kaya, Hacer Kayhan; Bashan, MehmetGas chromatography (GC) was used to determine the fatty acid (FA) compositions of total lipid, phospholipid (PL), phospholipid subclass (phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylinositol (PI), phosphatidylserine (PS), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE)), and TAG (triacylglycerol) fractions in male Chondrostoma regium. Percentages of myristic acid (14:0), palmitoleic acid (16:1n-7), oleic acid (18:1n-9), monounsaturated fatty acid (Sigma MUFA), linoleic acid (18:2n-6) and linolenic acid (18:3n-3) were found to be higher in TAG than the values determined in PL classes. Palmitic acid (16:0), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, 20:5n-3), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 20:6n-3) in the PC fraction; 16:0, 20:5n-3, 22: 6n-3 in PE; 16:0, stearic acid (18:0), arachidonic acid (AA, 20:4n-6), 20:5n-3, 22:6n-3 in PI; and 16:0, 18:0, oleic acid (18:1n-9), 22:6n-3 in PS were found to be dominant. In total lipid, the PUFA/SFA ratio was 1.37-1.83; atherogenicity index (AI) was 0.34-0.47 and thrombogenicity index (TI) was found in the range of 0.18-0.22. The n-3/n-6 ratio, which is an important index for nutritional content, was found to be between 5.15 and 11.07. It was discovered that the FA compositions of male C. regium were affected by the reproductive period and season. The results indicated that Hg(II) was more toxic than Pb(II) to E. profundum. E. profundum was also more tolerant in solid medium than in liquid medium for Pb(II) and Hg(II). The bacterial growth was not significantly influenced at 1.0 and 2.5 mg/L Pb(II) and Hg(II) for 24 h. The highest Hg(II) and Pb(II) bioaccumulation amounts were determined as 37.56 and 54.35 mg metal/dried bacteria, respectively. Bioaccumulation capacities of the cell membrane of E. profundum forHg(II) and Pb(II)were determined. The different concentrations of Pb(II) and Hg(II) enhanced the SOD and CAT enzymes. In addition, variations of the surface macrostructure and the functionality of E. profundum after the interaction with Hg(II) and Pb(II) were investigated by the scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), respectively. This investigation obviously showed that thermophilic E. profundum can also be applied for removal and recovery of toxic metals from industrial wastewater. Clearly, a further investigation should be utilized by thermophilic microorganisms. In this study the experimental results of vertical type ground source heat pump pump for cooling seasons for a test site which is 120 m(2) experimental ground area in Midyat/Mardin. After examining the results of studies energy, exergy and eksergo economic analysis was performed over the system. According to the analysis of the system it was determined that the compressor cooling process is of 3,704 kW best heat loss, 1.6539 kW the highest exergy loss, 0.4658 $/h and cost rate associated with capital investment, 0.7464 $/h and the high cost of exergy, exergy loss 44,72% rate of 38.43% and values eksergo economic factors. For this reason, it is inevitable that the planned improvements should be carried out primarily compressor. In addition, these remain to allow the evaluation of village-space organization. The architectural remains found at Boncuklu Tarla also provide the opportunity to compare the Middle PPNB period architecture unearthed atvarious settlements such as & Ccedil;ay & ouml;n & uuml;, Nevali & Ccedil;ori, Gritille, Tell Halula, Akar & ccedil;ay Tepe, Gre F & imath;lla and Cafer H & ouml;y & uuml;k in a regional context. This study aims to present and discuss new information on how village spatial organization changed within the PPNB period, following on from previous discussions on the PPNA period data. Especially within the Middle PPNB period, it is thought that the village spatial organization model of being centered around public buildings was abandoned at Boncuklu Tarla. This study identified the needs of parents of unborn babies with fetal anomalies and their views regarding the services of interdisciplinary team members in charge of assisting them. The sample consisted of 30 parents and 40 team members from a women's health education and research hospital. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews and were qualitatively analyzed using the phenomenological method of interpretation. The results showed that parents' physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum were not fully met after their unborn babies were diagnosed with fetal anomalies. The results also showed that team members needed a structured program, legal regulations, and training to provide holistic care. © Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.Article Post-Occupancy Evaluation: an Expert-User Model Proposal Based on Key Sustainability Indicators(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2025) Bekar, Irem; Erguen, Rusen; Kutlu, IzzettinPurpose The user-oriented reusing of historical heritages is a powerful planning strategy to increase sustainability and provide socioeconomic benefits for cities. The study aims to determine the post-occupancy sustainability of reused historical buildings.Design/methodology/approach A holistic model was designed by considering expert and user opinions to select the post-occupancy sustainability of reused historical buildings. The proposed model was developed concerning key sustainability indicators (KSI). This proposed model, which integrates expert and user views, is examined in an educational building with significant cultural value in Mardin.Findings The results of the KSI model indicate that the functional, technical and environmental sustainability of the building are at a medium level, while the aesthetic sustainability is rated as good. An analysis of the differences between importance and performance shows that the largest gap is in functional sustainability, with the smallest gap in technical sustainability. The environmental and aesthetic sustainability indicators show a smaller performance gap than the other two. The results suggest that functional sustainability requires immediate intervention, technical features should be improved based on user needs and aesthetic and environmental sustainability require monitoring but no urgent action.Originality/value The originality of the research is that it proposes a model that combines expert opinion and the opinions of building users to monitor the sustainability of the reused buildings throughout the usage process and enables them to be monitored with key sustainability criteria and to develop improvement suggestions in line with the results obtained.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Is There Any Effect of Lidocaine on Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury in Testicular Torsion? METHODS: A total of 18 male rats were randomized into three groups. Group 1 served as the control group. Group 2 was designed to evaluate testicular ischemia-reperfusion injury using a torsion/detorsion model. In Group 3, the treatment group, a similar ischemia- reperfusion model was used as in Group 2. Additionally, lidocaine at a dose of 15 mg/kg was administered intraperitoneally five minutes before reperfusion. Blood biochemical analyses and testicular histopathological evaluations were conducted. RESULTS: Blood biochemical analysis showed that malondialdehyde (MDA) and protein carbonyl (PC) levels were significantly higher in Group 2 compared to the other groups (p<0.001 and p=0.008, respectively). Proinflammatory cytokine levels, including interleu- kin-1 (IL-1), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), were lower in Group 3 than in Group 2 (p<0.001, p=0.007, and p=0.026, respectively). Antioxidant enzyme activities, including glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and superoxide dis- mutase (SOD), were higher in Group 3 compared to Group 2 (p=0.005 and p=0.025, respectively). Histopathological evaluations revealed significant improvements in all testicular damage scores, including hemorrhage, edema, vasocongestion, and inflammation in Group 3 compared to Group 2 (p=0.015, p=0.035, p=0.015, and p=0.034, respectively). Additionally, there was a notable improvement in the Johnsen score in Group 3 compared to Group 2 (p=0.034). For this aim, gamma-Fe2O3 was synthesized in order to give the nanoparticle the ability to be magnetic targeted. It was functionalized with citric acid to prevent clumping and maintain stability. To increase the interaction efficiency between the delivery system and the drug, leucine-glycine dipeptide and an amphiphilic polymer, Pluronic F127, were attached to the nanoparticle. Characterization studies were carried out with XRD, ICP-MS, vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), TEM, and zeta potential to elucidate the structure of this carrier system. After docetaxel was bound to the synthesized carrier, its therapeutic effect was measured by spectrophotometric and flow cytometric methods (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide [MTT], reactive oxygen species [ROS], and apoptosis). Docetaxel-bound nanoparticles significantly reduced the viability of the tumor cell compared to the healthy cell in a dose-dependent manner, especially at 24 (50.14 +/- 13.25 to 22.32 +/- 5.51 at 100 mu g/mL) h and 48 (41.46 +/- 2.22 to 18.80 +/- 2.81 at 100 mu g/mL) h. The rate of apoptosis and ROS in the negative sample increased from 2.7% to 15.4% and from 9.6% to 74.7%, respectively, as a result of treatment with 15 mu g/mL gamma-Fe2O3/C/LG/F127/Dotx. The YKL-40 protein, which is secreted from various cells that contribute to inflammation and infection, plays a role in immune regulation. Objective: This study investigated the serum YKL-40 levels of patients with clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) and MS. Methods: The participants was divided into three groups: 1) patients with CIS (n = 20); 2) patients with relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS; n = 39); and 3) healthy individuals (n = 35). The YKL-40 levels in serum samples obtained from the participants were measured using enzyme-linked immunoassays. Results: The median serum YKL-40 level was 20.2 ng/mL (range 9.8-75.9 ng/mL) in the patients with CIS, 22.7 ng/mL (range 13.4-57.9 ng/mL) in the patients with RRMS and 11.0 ng/mL (range 10.0-17.3 ng/mL) in the control group (p < 0.001). The serum YKL-40 levels in the patients with RRMS were correlated with the patients’ expanded disability status scale scores and ages (p < 0.05). No relationships were determined between the serum YKL-40 levels and the other variables (p > 0.05). The serum YKL-40 levels were higher in the CIS group than in the MS group. These findings show that the serum YKL-40 levels were high even at the beginning of the disease. The serum YKL-40 levels were also not involved in the progression to clinically definite MS. One of these BCI is to detect emotional states in humans. An emotional state is a brain activity consisting of hormonal and mental reasons in the face of events. Emotions can be detected by electroencephalogram (EEG) signals due to these activities. Being able to detect the emotional state from EEG signals is important in terms of both time and cost. In this study, a method is proposed for the detection of the emotional state by using EEG signals. In the proposed method, we aim to classify EEG signals without any transform (Fourier transform, wavelet transform, etc.) or feature extraction method as a pre-processing. For this purpose, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are used as classifiers, together with SEED EEG dataset containing three different emotional (positive, negative, and neutral) states. The records used in the study were taken from 15 participants in three sessions. In the proposed method, raw channel-time EEG recordings are converted into 28 × 28 size pattern segments without pre-processing. The obtained patterns are then classified in the CNN. As a result of the classification, three emotion performance averages of all participants are found to be 88.84%. Based on the participants, the highest classification performance is 93.91%, while the lowest classification performance is 77.70%. Also, the average f-score is found to be 0.88 for positive emotion, 0.87 for negative emotion, and 0.89 for neutral emotion. Likewise, the average kappa value is 0.82 for positive emotion, 0.81 for negative emotion, and 0.83 for neutral emotion. The results of the method proposed in the study are compared with the results of similar studies in the literature. Landraces Regarding To Some Agronomic Traits(Univ Namik Kemal, 2023) Durmaz, Abdurrahman; Aktas, HusnuThis research was conducted in 2019-20 wheat growing season under rainfall condition of Mardin - Artuklu province. 80 durum wheat landraces originated from Southeast Anatolia and 10 registered durum wheat cultivars were evaluated according to Augmented Trail Design. 20 landraces and 10 cultivars were used for each bloc. We determined large variations in durum wheat landraces for observed traits. Results indicated that mean of observed traits of landraces and varieties were ranged between 229 kg/da - 371 kg/da for grain yield; 1313 kg/kg - 1218 kg/kg for biomass, 18.02 % - 14.94 % for grain protein content. Mean thousand kernel weight of landraces and standard varieties changed between 42.9 g and 40.15 g; heading days ranged from 117.8 to 111 days respectively. According to observed data, landraces had longer heading days and grain stage and also higher grain protein content and biomass compare to standard varieties. Results of this study showed that landraces has high potential to increase biomass and grain protein content and they can be used as a genitor in wheat breeding programs to improving desirable durum wheat genotypes. Observation according to GGE biplot methodology (which-wonwhere) indicated that ST8 (Check) and G80 (landrace) have high values for grain yield, number of seed pers spike, seed weight per spike while G8 (landrace) showed high values for thousand grain weight, length of peduncle, plant height, grain protein content, biomass and heading days. MethodsThis cross-sectional study was conducted with 330 Syrian undergraduate students studying at Mardin Artuklu University in Turkey between February and May 2022. The Socio-demographic Information Form, Health Literacy Scale (HU-SOY), and World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) Scale were used in this study as data collection instruments and all scales were administered in Arabic. The data were analyzed with t-tests, ANOVA tests, correlation, and multiple linear regression. ResultsA significant positive correlation was found between health literacy, self-efficacy, and quality of life (p < 0.05). Self-efficacy (beta = .335, t 324 = 6.65, p < .001) and perception of general health status (beta = .255, t 324 = 5.075, p < .001) predicted quality of life. ConclusionsIt is concluded that Syrian university students' quality of life might be improved by increasing their health literacy, self-efficacy, and perception of health.Article Relationship Between Cryptocurrency Trading, Hopelessness, and Financial Well-Being: A Cross-Sectional Study Among Physicians(Int Scientific Information, Inc, 2025) Donmezdil, Suleyman; Uyar, BetulBackground: Cryptocurrencies trade continuously on highly volatile markets and can elicit emotionally driven, gambling-like behaviors. Physicians experience high occupational stress and burnout, potentially predisposing them to risky financial activities. We examined whether hopelessness and perceived financial well-being are associated with problematic cryptocurrency trading among physicians. Material/Methods: In a cross-sectional online survey, 300 licensed physicians from Diyarbak & imath;r, Turkey, completed the Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS; score range, 0-20), Financial Well-Being Scale (FWBS; 0-100), and Problematic Cryptocurrency Trading Scale (PCTS; 16-80). Group differences were evaluated with t tests and chi-square tests, and multivariable linear regression models estimated PCTS predictors. Results: Participants' mean age was 39.8 +/- 7.2 years; 70% were male; mean practice duration was 14.1 +/- 6.9 years. Male physicians had higher PCTS scores than female physicians (33.0 +/- 6.8 vs 29.8 +/- 5.9; P=0.03); BHS and FWBS scores did not differ by sex. In regression models, older age ((3=0.32, P=0.04) and male sex ((3=1.45, P=0.02) predicted higher PCTS scores. Hopelessness was positively associated with PCTS ((3=0.80, P=0.001), whereas financial well-being showed a trend toward significance ((3=-0.03, P=0.067). The demographics-only model explained approximately 8% of PCTS variance; the psychosocial model R2=0.35 (P<0.001). Conclusions: Among physicians, male sex, older age, and higher hopelessness are independently associated with problematic cryptocurrency trading, while perceived financial well-being is not clearly protective. Targeted institutional interventions (financial literacy and stress-management programs) may mitigate compulsive trading and support physician well-being.
