Morphological, Palynological and Phylogenetic Relationships of Glaucium Mill. in Turkey
(Bangladesh Assoc Plant Taxonomists, 2019) Kilic, Fatma Mungan; Mungan Kılıç, Fatma; Yildiz, Kemal; Batir, Muhammet Burak; Kilic, Murat; Buyuk, Ilker; 16.03. Glaucium taxa were investigated in terms of their morphological, palynological and phylogenetical characteristic. The results of this study show differences between the taxa in some of these characteristics, especially in micromorphology and formation of clades in phylogenetic trees based on the matK and ITS3-6 DNA sequence data. Based on the findings of the molecular analyses supported by morphological data (stem's trichomes), the genus Glaucium of Turkey was divided into subsections Glabrousae and Pubescentae.

Anatomy, Pollen And Seed Morphology Of Endemic Species Verbascum Globiferum Hub.-Mor. And V. Lysiosepalum Hub.-Mor. (Scrophulariaceae) In Diyarbakir, Turkey And Their Taxonomic Importance
(Bangladesh Assoc Plant Taxonomists, 2023) Kilic, Murat
Verbascum globiferum Hub.-Mor. and V. lysiosepalum Hub.-Mor. are endemic to Turkey which is a center of endemism for Verbascum species. This study gives the anatomical, palynological and seed micromorphological features of V. globiferum and V. lysiosepalum which grow in Diyarbakir. The xylem elements occupy a large area in the root cross-sections of the species. In stem cross-sections, the upper part of the epidermis cells is surrounded by a separate cuticle layer and the pith region covers a large area. In the leaves, the main vein is shapped as collateral bundle. Pollen grains are tricolporatetricolpate, oblate-spheroidal, and exine ornamentation is reticulate. Seeds are brown and oblong-ovate to prismatic and alveolate. The seed coat ornamentation is irregular with polygonal cells, with densely, distinct vesicles. The capsules are pubescent, covered with stellate and branched hairy or glandular hairs. The seed displayed that substantial taxonomic understanding can be acquired from examining the seed characteristics of Verbascum, particularly at the species level.

Comparison of Chemical and Antimicrobial Properties of Different Nanoparticles Synthesized From Verbascum X Calcicolum Hub.-Mor. Hybrid
(Elsevier, 2024) Ercan, Leyla; Caliskan, Cemile Gunbegi; Kilic, Murat
Recent advances in nanoparticle synthesis have led to an increase in the use of environmentally acceptable plantderived nanoparticles, given their wide range of applications. Due to their stability and several advantageous characteristics, selenium nanoparticles also stand out in these investigations in addition to metallic nanoparticles like silver, gold, iron, and zinc. These nanoparticles' favorable qualities for human health, such as antioxidant and antibacterial activities, are being studied in addition to their chemical characteristics. This investigation aimed to produce zinc oxide nanoparticles (VcZnO) and selenium nanoparticles (VcSe) from hybrid Verbascum x calcicolum Hub.-Mor. And to examine their antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. Utilizing the disk diffusion method and well methods, its antibacterial capabilities were studied. In vitro antioxidant capabilities were also assessed utilizing the DPPH, FRAP, and CUPRAC techniques. As a result, it emerged that zinc oxide nanoparticles synthesized from hybrid Verbascum x calcicolum were effective on gram-positive bacteria and gram-negative bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus (MIC = 160 mg/ml for VcZnO), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MIC = 80 mg/ml for VcZnO), Klebsiella pneumoniae (MIC = 40 mg/ml for VcZnO and, MIC = 120 mg/ml for VcSe), Escherichia coli (MIC = 20 mg/ml for VcZnO). While selenium nanoparticles are more favorable in terms of antioxidant capabilities, zinc nanoparticles demonstrate stronger antibacterial properties than selenium nanoparticles. Thus, it has been discovered that the use of different nanoparticles of various plants can be more efficient in different applications. It has also been found that Verbascum x calcicolum is a material that can be used successfully in nanoparticle synthesis.

Ethnobotanical Knowledge of Artuklu District (Mardin) Türkiye High School Students
(Natl Inst Science Communication-Niscair, 2025) Kilic, Murat
Documentation of traditional ethnobotanical knowledge from past to present is valuable in terms of sustainability and use of natural resources and should be done before this rich heritage is lost. Therefore, this study aims to determine the knowledge of students about plants used ethnobotanically in their living environments and to transfer this valuable information to future generations by recording it. The research was conducted with 213 students in a total of 8 high schools, 4 of which are located in the Artuklu district center and 4 high schools in 4 large rural neighborhoods where students from almost every rural neighborhood are educated. Structured and semi-structured face-to-face survey interviews were conducted to collect information about ethnobotanical uses of plants. According to the information received from the high school students, it was determined that 48 taxa belonging to 27 families were used by the local people for medicinal and food purposes. The most frequently used families were Apiaceae, Asteraceae, Brassicaceae, Fabaceae, Rosaceae and Lamiaceae. The highest usage values (UV) were recorded in Malva neglecta (0.37), Gundelia tournefortii (0.32), Centaurea hyalolepis (0.24), Lepidium draba (0.24) and Portulaca oleracea (0.23). It was observed that students living in the rural areas of the district had more knowledge about wild plants than students living in the district center. However, it was also seen that having knowledge about plants with ethnobotanical use and understanding the importance of this knowledge was not sufficient for the continuity of traditional knowledge.
