Tarihçi Fuat Sezgin ve İslam Medeniyeti Tarihinde Düzelttiği Kavramlar

Abstract

Doğulu birkaç tarihçi ve bir grup müsteşrik, değişik açılardan İslam Medeniyet Tarihi alanında çalışma ve araştırmalar yapmışlardır. Onlardan biri de değerli çalışmalar ve eserler sunan Prof. Fuat Sezgin'dir. Bu çalışma ve eserleriyle günümüz dünyasında az sayıdaki müdekkik tarihçilerden biri oldu. Sezgin'in bu çalışmalarıyla İslam Medeniyetinin özü sayılan İslami İlimler Tarihine odaklanılmıştır. Sezgin'i diğerlerinden ayıran husus, Doğu ve Batı, iki kültürü cemedebilmesidir. Buna bağlı olarak araştırmalarında pek çok dildeki yazılı kaynaklara dayanmış ve yüklendiği mesajla da tek olmuştur. O mesaj da İslam Medeniyeti Tarihini yeniden ihya etmek, insanlık tarihindeki medeniyet konumunu ve ona olan etkisini açığa çıkarmaktır. Bu yüzden, bu konuya olan şiddetli bağlılığı ve ona olan ilgisi neticesinde uzun yaşamı süresince mükemmel telifler ortaya koymuştur. Ömrünün bütün günlerini ve gününün tüm saatlerini çalışmalara harcamıştır. Sadece kitapları telif etme ve neşretmeyle yetinmemiş; aynı zamanda Almanya'nın Frankfurt, Türkiye'nin de İstanbul şehrinde, benzeri olmayan bir müze tesis etmekle bu medeniyetin tarihini gözler önüne serdimiştir. Bütün bu çalışma ve çabalardan gayesi, İslam Medeniyet Tarihi hakkında Müslümanlar ve Batılılar arasında yaygın olan yanlış bakış açıları ve throughout the world. His outstanding accomplishments are mostly in Islamic sciences, which is in the core of the Islamic civilization. The deep knowledge, what Professor Sezgin has of both Muslim and Western civilizations, made him a unique scholar with outstanding achievements. He availed himself with the knowledge of many languages to tape on various resources in his studies. He made his mission to help in revival of the Islamic civilization and to show its tremendous impact on the development of humanity. His lifelong attachment, deep passion, tireless works throughout his long career enabled him to achieve the unique and invaluable contributions. Not only did he write and publish books, he tried to exhibit the history of this civilization by establishing unique museums in Frankfurt and Istanbul. Sezgin's studies also aimed to correct numerous misconceptions among both Muslims and Western history of Islamic civilization, and to change the existing under-estimation and appreciation which westerners have about Islamic civilization. This paper, therefore, first traces the existing misconceptions about the Islamic civilizations and combines them in two categories. Then, it presents and evaluates Sezgin's approach in addressing those misconceptions. Besides, the study necessity provides a short biography of Sezgin and a glimpse of his major works.
