Abstract
Graphic design, which is a way of art and communication, was previously considered within the art of painting, but as of the end of the 19th century, it was accepted as a separate branch of art. With the development of technology and industry in the 19th century, graphic design developed in direct proportion to technology. In addition, with the increase in trade routes in this period, the interaction between countries increased and many cultural and artistic movements were affected by each other in this interaction process. Japanese art, which we can give as an example to this situation, is the name given to the cultural formation produced by Japanese artists and derived from these works. It is seen that the traditional art and visual print media sector in Japan has an impact on a large part of Europe. With the attention of Japanese art in Europe and the icons of the characters, it began to be known and spread first in Europe and America, and then all over the world. Japanese art has inspired many fields, from other fields of art to advertising campaigns for commercial commodities. Assuming that the graphic designs of French lithograph artist Jules Chêret, who is considered as the "father of the modern poster", is one of the areas of influence of his art in Japan, the interaction between these areas is examined, and the connections between the graphic designs of Jules Chêret, who is expected to benefit from the aesthetics of Japanese art, and Japanese art are examined.
