Süryânîler'de güneş ve ay sembolizmi

Abstract

Tezimiz, "Süryânîler'de Güneş ve Ay Sembolizmi" çerçevesinde ele alınacağından, genel anlamda dinsel sembolizm ve sembollerin yorumlanması meselesi bahis konusu edilmeyecektir. Araştırmanın bu iki sembol ile sınırlandırılmış olması; Süryânîler'in, göksel güçlerden 'Güneş' ve 'Ay'a yüklemiş oldukları anlamlar ile bu iki sembol arasındaki ilişkisi sebebiyledir. Özellikle, kutsal semboller olarak kabul edilen Güneş'e ve Ay'a Süryânîler ve Mezopotamya halkları tarafından farklı sembolik anlamlar yüklenmiştir. Süryânî kültürü ve inanç sistemindeki sembollere dair ülkemizde ulaşabildiğimiz herhangi bir çalışma bulunmamaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Hristiyanlık tarihi açısından oldukça önemli olan ve Ortadoğu'nun en eski halklarından biri olarak anılan Süryânîler tarafından; Hristiyanlık öncesi ve sonrası kullanılmış olan dinsel sembollerden bazıları incelenmiştir. Sözkonusu sembollerin coğrafi etkenler, kültürel etkileşimler yoluyla dinler ve din sistemleri arasındaki geçişindeki tesirini incelediğimiz bu çalışma; giriş, iki bölüm, sonuç ve değerlendirme kısımlarından oluşmaktadır. Tezimizin Giriş kısmında; sembol kavramının etimolojisi ve dinsel sembolizmin ne olduğu üzerinde durulmuştur. XI Birinci Bölüm'de; dinsel sembollerin yapısal özellikleri, kaynağı, formları, sınıflandırılması, temel özellikleri ve epistemolojik değerleri irdelenmiştir. İkinci Bölüm'de; Süryânîler'de dinsel sembol olarak Güneş ve Ay sembolleri; Süryânî literatürü içinde Efrem'in Mani, Marcion ve Bardaysan'a karşı kaleme aldığı reddiyesi, bunun yanısıra iki şiiri, Afrahat'ın İspatlar (Demonstrations), Aday'a atfedilen Aday Doktrini (The Doctrine of Addai) ve Bardaysan'ın öğrencisi Philip tarafından kaleme alınan Ülkelerin Yasalarının Kitabı (veya Kader Üzerine=The Book of the Laws of the Countries/On Fate) isimli eserler özelinde incelenmiştir. Bunun yanında, tezimizde, yorumlarımızı derinleştirmek adına, kimi zaman bu saydığımız kişilerin eserlerinin dışında kalan bazı eserlere de atıfta bulunulmuştur. Sonuç ve değerlendirme kısmında ise; çalışmamızda derli toplu olarak elde ettiğimiz bilgiler ışığında Süryânîler'de önemli bir yere sahip olan bu iki sembol yorumlanmıştır.

This dissertation mainly deals with the symbols of the Sun and the Moon which were used by Syriac-speakers, and does not devote much attention to a preliminary interpretation of religious symbols. The research will be presented within the interpretation of these two symbols because of the great importance attributed to these symbols by the Syriac-speakers and the relationship between these two. Syriac-speakers and other Mesopotamian peoples have attributed a variety of symbolic values to the Sun and the Moon which were accepted as sacred symbols. This is the first study in Turkey regarding symbols in Syriac culture and system of belief. In this study, a few religious symbols used by the Syriac-speakers who are one of the oldest peoples of the Middle East both during their pre-Christian and Christian periods have been examined. This study, in which we examine the influence of these XIII symbols in geographical settings, cultural influences and interaction between reliogons and religious systems, consists of an introduction, two chapters and the conclusion. The Introduction of the thesis deals with the etymology of the term "symbol" and what is meant by religious symbolism. The First Part examines the structural properties, source, forms, classification, basic attributes and the epistemological value of the symbols. The Second Part examines the Sun and the Moon as religious symbols for the Syriac-speakers, by making use of such texts as Ephrem's Prose Refutations of Mani, Marcion and Bardaisan, two poems by Ephrem, The Doctrine of Addai, Aphrahat's Demonstrations and The Book of the Laws of Countries by Philip, generally attributed to his teacher Bardaisan. In addition to these, in order to reach a deeper interpretation, sometimes we touched upon other authors and pieces in our thesis. In The Conclusion, we made final comments on these two symbols in the light of the orderly accumulation of the results of our survey.
