Mimarlıkta işlev kavramının dışarıda bırakılmış anlamları

Abstract

Mimarlığın sarsılmaz sınırlarının olduğu ve uzunca bir süre sorgulamaya açık olmadığı bir dünyadan, mimarlık pratiğinin tarihselliğinin farkına varılmasıyla tüm kavramların tartışılabilir olduğu ve bambaşka karşılıklarının konuşulabildiği bir dünyaya gelinmiştir. Mimarlık üzerine düşünme pratiğinin geliştiği bu süreç içinde; mimarlık dünyası, bazı kavramlarla diğerlerinden farklı şekillerde ilişki kurmuştur. Bunlardan biri de kuşkusuz işlev kavramıdır. Kavram bir yandan, mimarlığı kolayca rasyonalize etmeye yaramış ve bu sayede mimarlığa bilimsel kimlik verme çabalarında uzunca yıllar güçlü bir araç olarak kullanılmış; bir yandan da kökenleri Vitruvius'un üçlemesindeki utilitas'a dayandırılarak, mimarlığın "kadim" ve tarihdışı bir pratik olarak kavranmasına imkan vermiştir. Kavramın icat edilme serüveninin merakı ile kavrama geri dönmek ve yeniden okumak/yazmak; bugünkü anlamlarına nasıl büründüğü, nasıl bir süreç geçirdiği, değişen dünyada nasıl dönüştüğü ve dönüşmeye devam edeceğine bakmak; tartışma düzeyini hep canlı tutacak, durağanlığı harekete geçirecek ve katılığı çözecek önemli bir husustur. Bu tezin amacı da, her şeyin sürekli dönüşüm içinde olduğu halde ısrarla formülize etmeye çalışılan mimarlığı ve uzunca bir süre bunun sabitelerinden biri olarak kabul edilen "işlev" kavramını, sahip olduğu çerçevenin dışına taşırarak bu bağlamda yeniden tartışmaya açmaktır.

With the discovery of the historicity of the architectural activity, a change has come out in understanding of architecture. The change has realized from a world where architecture has had stable walls and has not been open to discussion for a long time through a world where all the concepts of it can be discussed and different responses can be talked. In this process when the practice for thinking on architecture is developed, the world of architecture has established a relation with some concepts in different ways from others. One of them is the concept of function. This concept both helps the rationalization of architecture so that it has been used as a powerful tool in struggle for giving a scientific identity to architecture for long years and it makes it possible to comprehend the architecture as an ancient and ahistorical activity by originating it from the "utilitas" in the Vitruvius trinity. With a wonder about the creation process of the concepts, returning to the concept, rereading/writing it, inspecting how it gain the meaning it has today, what kind of process it has passed, how it has changed and will change in that changing world becomes an important issue that makes the discussion always alive and makes its stability move and eases to overcome this strictness. The aim of this thesis is to discuss the architecture which is tried to be formulated even though everything is in a continuous change and the concept of "function" which has been regarded as the stability of this formulization, in this context by taking it out of its frame.
