Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of digital gamification-supported English instruction on high school students' academic achievement, attitudes toward the course, and learning motivation. The study was conducted using a quasi-experimental pretest–post-test control group design. The study group consisted of 9th-grade students enrolled in an Anatolian Imam Hatip High School located in the Viranşehir district of Şanlıurfa during the 2024–2025 academic year. Among the six existing classes at this grade level, the groups were selected through a random sampling method. The selected classes were then randomly assigned to two experimental groups and one control group. Accordingly, two classes were assigned as Experimental Group 1, two classes as Experimental Group 2, and two classes as the Control Group. In the study, three different instructional conditions were implemented: digital game-based learning in Experimental Group 1, non-digital game-based learning in Experimental Group 2, and traditional instruction in the Control Group. Data were collected using an academic achievement test, an attitude scale toward English lessons, and a motivation scale for learning English. The implementation process lasted ten weeks. In the digital gamification group, English lessons were supported by gamification elements such as points, badges, levels, instant feedback, and progress tracking. The collected data were analyzed using statistical software Jamovi. The findings indicate that digital gamification-supported English instruction has positive effects on students' academic achievement and motivation levels. Additionally, digital gamification was found to improve students' attitudes toward English lessons and increase their active participation in the learning process. The results suggest that digital gamification can be used as an effective instructional approach in English language teaching.
