They shape traditional practices and social life as a cult in the old Turkish belief system. It contains rushing rivers, the springs and the sources of rivers. Water is the source of the material and spiritual life and it is considered to be sacred. In this regard, it can be said that many sacred narrative formed around the mountains and the water. Mountain and cave are also contemplation places for divine personality. Huseyin Gazi, one of the saints in Anatolia, who is believed to live in Mamak, Ankara, there is a mountain and a tomb by his name and stories associated with his sacred personality. Water metaphor is also noteworthy in a dialectical interaction with both mountain and Huseyin Gazi is blessed in this stories. In this regard, such stories refer naming the places in the context of the sacred mountain and cave metaphores and providing information about the origin of water resources in the context of the metaphor of holy water. In this study, stories that talk about Huseyin Gazi are handled in the context of mountain, water, and cave cults by analyzing printed materials and interviewing people. The issues of evolvement of historical personalities into phenomenon and mythical place names are also studied.Within this faremework in the foregoing verbal data about Huseyin Gazi indicates that his holy personality passes ahead of his historical personality.Article Çok Anlamlılıktan Eş Adlılığa Doğru Tarihsel Bir Yolculuk(FOLKLOR/EDEBIYAT-FOLKLORE/LITERATURE, 2022) Erkınay Tamtamış, Hadra Kübra; 02.15. Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiBu çalışmada, aynı kökene dayanan çok anlamlı sözcüklerin tarihsel yolculukları içinde anlam genişlemelerinden kaynaklı sözlük birimlerinin birbirinden uzaklaşmasıyla eş adlı duruma gelme süreçleri incelenmiştir. Eş adlılar; sesleri ve yazılışları aynı, anlamları farklı olan sözcükler olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Çok anlamlılık ise bir sözcüğün birden fazla anlamı karşılamasıdır. Çok anlamlı sözcüklerde tek kök, birden fazla birbiriyle ilintili anlam(lar) söz konusuyken eş adlı sözcüklerde birbirinden farklı en az iki kök ve anlamlar söz konusudur. Türk Dil Kurumu Türkçe Sözlük’ten genel tarama modeliyle elde edilen acımak, ağıl, ağız, ağmak, altıparmak, basılmak, biçim, bir bir, bitmek, boy, bozuk, çakmak, çil, çöğür, dayak, dikilmek, dikmek, dil, dokunma, dokunmak, dokunuş, el, gen, güç, günlük, öz, sağ, sormak, ters, terslemek, uçuk, uğur, uz, yaş, yaşlı, yazı, yazmak, yordurmak, yormak, yorulmak sözcüklerinin çok anlamlılıktan eş adlığa doğru tarihsel bir yolculuk gerçekleştirdikleri tespit edilmiştir. Sözlükte eş adlı sözcükler, (I) (II) (III) Romen rakamlarıyla birden fazla madde başında gösterilmiştir. Çok anlamlı sözcüklerin genişlemiş anlamları ise tek madde başında 1, 2, 3 rakamlarıyla gösterilmiştir. Almost all regions have some specific inherent ways of entertainment. Entertainments in traditional societies are not independent from society's world vision and historical memorial perception. Traditional entertainments tie relationships between society and ritual. The spirit of solidarity increases and the communication is strengthened in societies where identity and history are emphasized. Daily changes in today's society reshapes the concept of entertainment and rituals, Generally, traditional entertainments and specifically "Ferfene Days", collective concept of regions and all practices regarding the tradition have been considered a functional portion of cultural identity. In this study, Ankara Ferfeneleri, which is an Anatolian traditional entertainment, has been approached from functional perspective in terms of gender. In traditional entertainments, the diversity of appropriate actions which change according to gender are shaped pursuant to multi-variables such as economic situation, marital status, education level. That fact causes a distinction and stereotype within traditions. Potential causes of the differences regarding gender gap have been discussed in this study where appropriate. Traditional entertainment platforms are important in terms of female socialization and distribution of roles in society. Causes of gender discrimination in entertainment may be listed and based on social, economic, religious, and psychological factors. Hence the subject here has been examined based on social doctrine. Influence of importance, contribution, modification and transformation of traditional entertainments to traditional entertainments in terms of notion of culture and entertainment have been also embraced in this study. Sacred places and saints who are seemed as proprietorship are occurred in many parts of Anatolia. These beliefs change region to region but they are fed from similar culture bases and they contain similar practices and beliefs for responding to the same needs. In this context, sacred places which are the subject of this study named “yatır” have narratives which are occurred around those places. But in Mardin, some sacred places are independet from saint belief and they are consired as sacred by the people of Mardin. All these places have functions like giving healty, curing infertility, protecting from harmful animals, evil spirits and magic, being fertility source. This study aims to handle the beliefs and narratives which are occured near sacred places “especially Sultan Şeyhmus” with direction of its motifs, functions and culture transmission. Central Mardin and its nearby district form basis of this research. Some of the texts in this research have been obtained by myself as either observer or participant observer while others were obtained by undergraduate students and sent to me in writing. All the necessary permissions regarding the texts were obtained from both the original sources and the compilers whose contact information were available under the compiled texts. When the stories and legends in this research are examined, it is seen that they are founded on old Turkish beliefs and traditions. Today, however, these foundations have been long forgotten by the sources who perform the practices. It has also been determined that Islamic faith, other monotheistic religions and old Turkish beliefs have gained new dimensions and these sacred places have been transformed into centers where they meet the sipiritual needs of the people. © 2019 Cyprus International University. Texts which had been obscured for years, repressed and kept hidden, are now being published, finally seeing the light of day. Written Kurdish literature, with a history of over a millennium, may be duly known and appreciated on a universal scale through translations. The aim of this preliminary survey of translations from Kurdish literature into Turkish is to observe certain characteristic phenomena ranging from the selection of texts for translation and target language usage to the translators’ dilemma regarding (self-)censorship, and the tensions in their relationship to both languages. This paper attempts to make a fresh approach to challenge established notions and prejudices regarding Kurdish literature, offering analyses on attitudes to Kurdish and to Kurdish literature and interpretations of the literary history of Kurdish. Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiRashid Ali Efendi, a Bektashi poet, was first mentioned by the Ottoman Authors (Osmanlı Müellifleri). He wrote his poems under the pseudonyms of Rashid and Kemter which were also adopted by other poets in their poems. Using multiple pseudonyms and the adoptations of these names by other poets led to the confusion in Rashid's life and his literary personality. The only identified work of Rashid is Diwan which is claimed to be a voluminous one. Unfortunately, it could not be accessed in this study. The availbale copy of Rashid's Diwan includes sixteen ghazals, seven nafases (Bektashi poem), two muxammases, and two musaddases. This work can be considered as a small diwan (diwancha) with this nature. It is understood from Rashid's poems, he was a poet in love with Prophet Hazrat Muhammad and Hazrat Ali. Besides, he was a poet having a special love to Hazrat Hussain and Ahl al-Bayt. It is also possible to find the traces of the Jafferism, Haydarism, Bektashism and Hurufism in Rashid's works. This study aims to understand the detection of Rashid Ali Efendi's Diwan as a text and its investigation from a literary perspective. For these purposes, the catalog of manuscript libraries were searched and the copy of manuscript (Rashid's Diwan) was obtained. The poems in that copy and the poems are claimed to be belonging to Rashid's poetry in the other special works were examined with the method of comparison, analysis, sampling and explanation. © 2018 Centre - Urbanisation Culture Societe de l'INRS. Cultural heritage of Mardin which bonds people from different lingual and religious backgrounds can be traced back in entertainment practices. These practices convey past to present with its traditional character. The traditional entertainment ritual in Mardin is called "Leyli Nights". They provide the basic elements of Mardin's culture and entertainment practices. Leyli Nights are also significant for being a part of transition rituals such as bridal and circumcision ceremonies. Nevertheless as these ceremonies take place in different locations due to the change in life styles; Leyli nights' character also changed especially in places where it became a tourist attraction. This shift in its context and authenticity will be discussed. Our study is a folkloric one which takes music in Leyli Nights as means of communication. In addition, the multi lingual and multi religious structure of the region is reflected in these entertainments. Bu kavram hem fen bilimlerinde hem sosyal bilimlerde kullanılmaktadır. Çıkış yeri biyoloji ve bitki bilimleri olan terim; sosyoloji, müzik, teknoloji, otomotiv ve son zamanlarda eğitim gibi alanlarda kullanılmaya başlanmıştır. Bu çalışmada hibritleşme Türk dili alanına uyarlanmış, bu minvalde Türk Dil Kurumu Türkçe Sözlük’teki iki farklı kökene ait sözcüklerin oluşturduğu birleşik yapıların durumu değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırmada genel tarama modeli kullanılarak sözlüğün tamamı taranmıştır. Araştırmanın evrenini Türkçedeki tüm hibrit yapılar; örneklemini ise Türkçe Sözlük’te farklı iki dile ait sözcük ve(ya) eklerden oluşmuş bitişik yazılan sözcükler oluşturmaktadır. Bitişik yazılan en az iki sözcükten müteşekkil yapılar ile Türkçe dışındaki eklerle oluşturulmuş türemiş sözcükler fişlenmiştir. Bu yapılar ait oldukları dile ve dizilimlerine göre sınıflandırılmıştır. Türkçe Sözlük’te toplam 1.839 hibrit yapı tespit edilmiştir. Bu yapılar Türkçe + Arapça, Fransızca + Türkçe, Türkçe + İbranice, Yunanca + Soğdca, Rumca + Türkçe, Türkçe + Farsça + Türkçe, Arapça + Arapça + Türkçe biçiminde birbirinden farklı dizilişler göstermektedir. Bazı gruplardaki hibrit yapıların sayısı fazlayken (Türkçe + Arapça = 755) bazıları sınırlıdır (Türkçe + Latince = 1). Bu çalışma; Türkçenin söz varlığında yer alan hibrit yapıları tespit ve tasnif etmek, hibrit sözcüklerin kökenlerini ve kullanım alanlarını belirlemek üzere yapılmıştır.Article Understanding new consumer trends in Turkey through coffee production and consumption in Mardin(Anthropological Notebooks, 2022) Uygur, Hatice Kübra; Uygur, Hatice Kübra; 02.15. Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiCoffee which helps us to learn about the cultural practices of a society, is an important consumption commodity not only in Turkey but also in the world. In this study, various specialty coffees produced by coffee producers in Artuklu, the historical district of Mardin, the rapid change of cafes and the purchasing practices of consumers have been examined. Ethnographic interviews have also been conducted with coffee producers, cafe owners and consumers. Coffee producers produce various coffees such as Turkish, Assyrian, Kurdish, Dibek and cardamom reflecting the multicultural structure of the city. Cafe owners and producers use expressions and images that emulate antiquity in their brands and logos. The cafes as “third place” become flamboyant spacious spaces leaving their traditional appearance. The consumption of new products by visitors of Mardin, an important place for domestic tourists, indicates a new class that seeks pleasure and experience in Turkey.
