Review Anatolian Medicinal Plants as Potential Antiviral Agents: Bridging Traditional Knowledge and Modern Science in the Fight Against Covid-19 and Related Viral Infections(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2024) Tilkat, Engin; Jahan, Israt; Hoser, Ayse; Kaplan, Alevcan; Ozdemir, Oguzhan; Onay, AhmetThe severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was the cause of the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), commonly known as the coronavirus pandemic. Since December 2020, COVID-19 vaccines have been extensively administered in numerous countries. In addition to new antiviral medications, the treatment regimen encompasses symptom management. Despite sustained research efforts, the outbreak remains uncontrolled, with affected patients still lacking proper treatment. This review is a valuable asset for researchers and practitioners aiming to delve into the yet unexplored potential of Anatolian flora in the fight against COVID-19 and other viral infections. Numerous medicinal plants in Anatolia, such as thyme, sage, cannabis, oregano, licorice root, and Origanum sp., contain bioactive compounds with proven antiviral properties that have been used in the region for centuries. The rich legacy of traditional Anatolian medicine (TAM), has significantly influenced modern medicine; thus, the profusion of medicinal plants native to Anatolia holds promise for antiviral drug development, making this review essential for researchers and practitioners.Editorial Editorial: Anxiety, burnout, and stress among healthcare professionals(Frontiers, 2023) Bayram Değer, VasfiyeThe technology, informatics and social fields are experiencing continuous changes and developments day by day. Such changes and developments influence human life and expand the fields of research. One of these fields is the world of work life. Work life is an area where people spend a significant part of their lives by spending time and effort. The willingness of employees to make quality use of their time and labor significantly affects the efficiency obtained as a result of their work (Burton, 2010). The nature of the work requirements and the quantity of communication with other people in the workplace create challenging situations for employees. In this context, when it comes to health in work life, health workers are seen as an important sample group in terms of researching variables in work life, since their field requires qualified labor force, is vital and is a profession that constantly involves face-to-face interaction with people. The health sector is one of the sectors where employees have the most difficulties due to various factors. The health sector differs from other working environments due to the difficulty of serving patients with severe stress and the fact that employees in this sector often face stressful situations in their daily working environment.Letter Metabolic Syndrome in School Children(TURKISH PEDIATRIC ENDOCRINOLOGY & DIABETES SOCIETY, 2013) Battaloğlu İnanç, BetülThe problem of excessive weight and obesity is increasing world-wide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are over 1.6 billion overweight and 400 million obese people in the world; in 2015, these figures are expected to reach 2.3 billion and 700 million, respectively. Ninety percent of obese adolescents are at risk of becoming obese adults; 75% of obese 12-year-olds go on to become obese adults; of 7-year-olds, 41% of obese ones become obese in adulthood; 25% of those obese in the pre-school period become obese adults; and 14% of obese infants are at risk of becoming obese adults. The presence of childhood obesity increases the risk of non-communicable diseases such as metabolic syndrome (MS), type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), hypertension (HT), hyperlipidemia, cardiovascular disease, and certain cancers (1). In clinical studies, the prevalence of MS in childhood was found to be approximately 3-4%. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the prevalence of MS in southwest part of Turkey.Book Review Natural phytotherapeutic antioxidants in the treatment of mercury intoxication-A review(Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, 2018) Unsal V.Heavy metals taken into the organism can make the toxic effects on the metabolism in various ways. For example, they may interact with proteins to alter and inhibit their enzymatic and structural functions. Mercury is one of the toxic elements that are widely distributed in nature. Mercury toxicity poses a serious threat to human health. It is an element that causes oxidative stress to increase in individuals, leading to tissue damage. Oxidative stress is the result of the imbalance between the production of oxidative species and cellular antioxidant defense. Phytotherapy continues to play an important role in health care. Natural phytotherapeutic antioxidants, exhibit a broad sequence of biological impacts, including anti-oxidative stress, anti-aging, anti-toxicicity and anticancer. Many studies have also shown that the phytotherapeutic agents play an important role in the removal of mercury from the tissue and in reducing oxidative stress. Our goal in this review was to investigate alternative ways of extracting the mercury in the tissue. © 2018 The Authors.
