It was found that chickpea is a rich source of protein and minerals. The experiments were conducted in a Randomised Complete Block Design with three replications 2013 and 2014 years in South-Eastern Turkey. A total of fifteen varieties, lines and populations were used as materials. In the study were investigated different parameters such as amino acids of protein, seed yield, protein and fat rate in seed, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, manganese, zinc, copper and iron contents and of seeds. The essential amino acid leucine (8.43 mg/100 g in 2013 and 8.59 mg/100 g in 2014) was found in highest concentration, followed by lysine (7.14 mg/100 g in 2013 and 7.27 mg/100 g in 2014) and phenylalanine (5.99 mg/100 g in 2013 and 6.07 mg/100 g in 2014) in the chickpea. Mineral composition of chickpea genotypes showed that they contribute sufficient amount of Ca, P, K, Cu, Zn and Mg in human diets to meet the recommended dietary allowance. According to the average of two years, the highest grain yield was obtained from Diyar-95 variety with 1618 kg ha(-1), the lowest grain yield was obtained from M-1 local population with 1104 kg ha(-1).Article Citation - Scopus: 15Biosorption Studies of Mushrooms for Two Typical Dyes(Journal of the Turkish Chemical Society, Section A: Chemistry, 2020) Yıldırım, Ayfer; Acay, Hilal; Department of Medical Services and Techniques / Tıbbi Hizmetler ve Teknikleri Bölümü; Department of Nutrition and Dietetics/ Beslenme ve Diyetetik BölümüThis study investigated the adsorption behaviour of two cationic dyes, methylene blue (MB) and malachite green (MG) onto Pleurotus ostreatus, Armillaria tabescens, and Morchella conica mushrooms. The effects of contact time, initial dye concentration, and solution pH (3-11) were also determined. The adsorption on all mushrooms attained equilibrium within 120 min for both MB and MG. To evaluate the experimental kinetics data, the pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, and intraparticle diffusion kinetics equations were utilised. The pseudo-first-order kinetic model demonstrated a good fit with all adsorption kinetics. The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were used to analyse the mechanism of the adsorption isotherm. The adsorption equilibrium isotherm was in a good agreement with the Freundlich model. Thermodynamic parameters such as ΔH enthalpy variation, ΔS entropy variation, and ΔG free Gibbs energy variation were calculated at 303-323 K. The results suggested that the Pleurotus ostreatus mushroom was the most suitable adsorbent for both cationic dyes’ removal.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 2Characterization of Durum Wheat (triticum durum L.) Landraces Regarding To Some Agronomic Traits(Univ Namik Kemal, 2023) Aktaş, Hüsnü; Aktas, Husnu; Department of Seed Production / Tohumculuk Teknolojisi BölümüThis research was conducted in 2019-20 wheat growing season under rainfall condition of Mardin - Artuklu province. 80 durum wheat landraces originated from Southeast Anatolia and 10 registered durum wheat cultivars were evaluated according to Augmented Trail Design. 20 landraces and 10 cultivars were used for each bloc. We determined large variations in durum wheat landraces for observed traits. Results indicated that mean of observed traits of landraces and varieties were ranged between 229 kg/da - 371 kg/da for grain yield; 1313 kg/kg - 1218 kg/kg for biomass, 18.02 % - 14.94 % for grain protein content. Mean thousand kernel weight of landraces and standard varieties changed between 42.9 g and 40.15 g; heading days ranged from 117.8 to 111 days respectively. According to observed data, landraces had longer heading days and grain stage and also higher grain protein content and biomass compare to standard varieties. Results of this study showed that landraces has high potential to increase biomass and grain protein content and they can be used as a genitor in wheat breeding programs to improving desirable durum wheat genotypes. Observation according to GGE biplot methodology (which-wonwhere) indicated that ST8 (Check) and G80 (landrace) have high values for grain yield, number of seed pers spike, seed weight per spike while G8 (landrace) showed high values for thousand grain weight, length of peduncle, plant height, grain protein content, biomass and heading days. Obtained results from this study indicated that landraces should be preserved for sustainable agriculture activities specially for marginal areas, also they have high diversity and useful traits for national and international wheat breeding programs.Article Citation - Scopus: 0Comparison Of Different Life Stages Of Total, Phospholipid And Triacylglycerol Fatty Acids Of Lucilia Sericata(ABADER (Adıyaman Bilimsel Arastırmalar Dernegi), 2021) Kızmaz, Veysi; Department of Medical Services and Techniques / Tıbbi Hizmetler ve Teknikleri BölümüLucilia sericata, which belongs to the Calliphoridae family (Diptera), is used as a debridement tool in open necrotic wounds that do not respond to conventional treatments. Knowing the total, phospholipid (PL), and triacylglycerol (TAG) fatty acid content of L. sericata fly, which is important for health, in its different stages is important both in terms of taxonomy and physiology. After L. sericata samples used in the study were obtained commercially, they were bred under laboratory conditions and then the fatty acids in different stages were analyzed by gas chromatography. Sixteen fatty acids are determined as a result of the analysis. When individual fatty acids are considered, Palmitic acid (16:0), Palmitoleic Acid (16:1n-7), oleic acid (18:1n-9) and Linoleic Acid (18:2n-6) were found to be major ones, while the others are detected in trace amounts. It is determined that, out of total, PL and TAG, saturated fatty acids (SFA) are found at a high percentage in the eggs, monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) are the highest in the larvae, and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) are the highest in fly and pupa. Furthermore, out of total, PL and TAG, ∑PUFA is at a low percentage in the egg and the larval stages. Different results are found at different stages in this study. This may be because fatty acid percentages that change during metamorphosis meet different physiological needs at different phases. © 2021, ABADER (Adıyaman Bilimsel Arastırmalar Dernegi). This study was performed under Mardin conditions the years of 2011–2012 and 2012–2013. Fifteen bread wheat varieties were used in the experiments. The randomised complete blocks design with 3 replications was used. The characteristics such as plant height, spike height, numbers of seed per spike, seed yield, harvest index, biological yield and 1000 seed weight were investigated in the study. Positive and statistically significant (p < 0.01) relationships were determined between seed yield, spike height, numbers of seed per spike, biological yield and harvest index. According to path coefficient analysis, there were strong direct effects of the biological yield and harvest index on the seed yield, p = 0.53549 and 0.548321, respectively. The results of this study indicate that numbers of seed per spike, biological yield and harvest index affected seed yield and it was concluded that these characters should be considered as significant selection criteria in wheat breeding for yield under the regional conditions of southeast Turkey. © 2017, Scibulcom Ltd. This study aimed to determine the effects of increasing doses of phosphorus and humic acid applications on P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu, Mn, Zn, protein ratio and seed yield in lentil cultivar. The study was carried out in the research and application during the 2008–2009 and 2009–2010 cropping seasons in field of Agriculture Faculty Yuzuncu Yil University, Turkey. The experiment comprised a factorial randomised complete block design replicated three times with three phosphorus treatments 0, 40 and 80 kg ha–1, as triple superphosphate, and three humic acid treatments 0, 300 and 600 kg ha–1. For basic fertilisation 40 kg ha–1 ammonium sulphate were applied for nitrogen. The nutrient contents of seed and yield were significantly increased by increasing phosphorus and humic acid levels except for Zn content nutrient. The combination between phosphorus at 80 kg P2O5 ha–1 and humic acid at 600 kg ha–1 gave the highest growth and production as well as minerals composition (P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu and Mn) and protein content compared to other treatments. Humic acid increased the availability of phosphors, macronutrients and micronutrients. © 2016, Scibulcom Ltd. Nanoparticles have important effects on seed germination and seedling growth of plants. The aim of this study has been to produce a 54.68 nm-sized ZnO nanoparticle obtained from the Nigella sativa L. plant by green synthesis. The effect of medicinal sage (Salvia officinalis L.) on germination of plant seeds and seedling growth was investigated. The trial was set up under controlled conditions and conducted for 14 days according to a factorial trial design with 5 replications for each dose (0, 0.5, 1.5 and 2.5 mg ZnO NP kg-1). As a result of ZnO NP application in different doses, germination of Salvia officinalis L. seeds varied between 90-94%, stem length was 1.86-2.92 cm and shoot length was between 1.01-1.98 cm. The highest root and shoot length was obtained after the application of 2.5 mg ZnO kg-1 NP. In the light of the results, ZnO nanoparticles are thought to be useful for seed development and agricultural applications.Article Citation - Scopus: 2Fe3O4@SA MNCs Synthesis, Characterization, and First-time Use in Hydrogen Production by NaBH4 Hydrolysis(Turkish Chemical Society, 2024) Umaz, Adil; Department of Medical Services and Techniques / Tıbbi Hizmetler ve Teknikleri BölümüHydrogen is a clean energy carrier that will reduce dependence on fossil fuels and contribute to reducing the harmful effects on the environment resulting from using fossil fuels. Hydrogen is produced by the hydrolysis of sodium borohydride (NaBH4), one of the chemical hydrides, using a catalyst. In this study, Fe3O4@Salicylic acid magnetic nano-catalyst (Fe3O4@SA MNCs) was synthesized using the co-precipitation technique. The structural, physical, and chemical properties of the produced Fe3O4@SA MNCs were characterized by FT-IR, XRD, VSM, SEM, and SEM-EDX methods. At room temperature, the effect on hydrogen production performance was examined in the amounts of Fe3O4@SA MNCs (10, 25, 50, 75, and 100 mg), NaOH (0, 10, 20, and 25 mg), and NaBH4 (25, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg). The highest hydrogen generation rates (HGR) were obtained using 10 mg Fe3O4@SA MNCs, 150 mg NaBH4, and 0 mg NaOH at room temperature. The obtained HGR value was calculated as 400 mL gcat-1.min-1. Fe3O4@SA MNCs were used for hydrogen production for the first time in this study. This study showed that Fe3O4@SA MNCs exhibit catalytic properties and are a promising, efficient catalyst in hydrogen production from NaBH4.Article Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 5Investigation of Micro and Macro Element Content of Wheat Varieties Grown Commonly in Turkey(Scibulcom Ltd, 2015) Dogan, Y.; Doğan, Yusuf; Department of Plant Protection / Bitki Koruma BölümüStudy of 15 bread wheat varieties commonly grown in Turkey (Triticum aestivum L.) was conducted in 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 growing seasons in Mardin to reveal the existing potentials in terms of macro and micro elements content. Grain yield and thousand seed weight of wheat were also examined. According to the combined analysis of two years data, Zn content of the varieties varied between 21.69 to 37.06 mg kg(-1); Fe content 25.41-43.38 mg kg(-1); Mn content 27.38-42.98 mg kg(-1). Varieties had different contents in terms of the macro elements, Ca content in terms of macro elements varied between 590.3 and 999.5 mg kg(-1), Mg content was 907.2 to 1115 mg kg(-1) and K content ranged between 2250 and 3242.5 mg kg. The highest grain yield was obtained with 3920 kg ha(-1) from Sonmez variety. Significant correlations were detected between Fe and grain yield (0.48*), C (0.63*), Mg (0.81 **), K (0.54*); C and K (0.73**), Mg (0.64**), Zn (0.63*); Mn and Mg (0.55*), P (0.66**); Zn with Ca (0.80**), K (0.63 *), Mg (0.77 **) and Na and Ca (0.61*). It has been identified that Pehlivan, Osmaniyem and Altana varieties can be used in the studying of increasing the nutritional value of wheat grain since it has been identified as having high value in terms of macro and micro elements contents grain yield and thousand seed weight.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Neoscytalidium dimidiatum: A newly identified postharvest pathogen of pears and its implications for pome fruits(Wiley, 2024) Derviş, Sibel; Zholdoshbekova, Sezim; Guney, Inci Guler; Ozer, Goksel; Department of Organic Agriculture / Organik Tarım BölümüT & uuml;rkiye is a prominent contributor to pear and diverse pome fruit production. Pear fruit with unusual brown to black spots and rot symptoms observed in public marketplaces in Mardin province have raised concerns regarding postharvest fruit health. The consistent isolation of a fungus from these fruits revealed morphological features indicative of Neoscytalidium dimidiatum. Phylogenetic confirmation of its identity ensued through BLASTn searches targeting, the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) of ribosomal DNA, the partial translation elongation factor 1-alpha gene (tef1), and the partial beta-tubulin gene (tub2). Pathogenicity evaluations were conducted on common pome fruits, namely pears, apples, and quinces, unveiling the susceptibility of all examined fruits to postharvest infection by this emergent pathogen. Furthermore, an investigation was carried out to discern the pathogen's response to varying temperature ranges on pear fruits, revealing that the most pronounced lesions occurred at 30 degrees C, followed by 25 degrees C, 35 degrees C, and 20 degrees C. Conversely, no lesion development was observed at 10 degrees C, 15 degrees C, or 40 degrees C. To the best of our knowledge, this study represents the first report of N. dimidiatum as the etiological agent responsible for postharvest rot in pear fruit. The implications of these findings highlight the potential threat posed by this pathogen to pome fruits postharvest, especially in regions where cold storage facilities are not widely utilized, warranting increased vigilance and preventive measures.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 1Nutrient Status and Yield of Chickpea (Cicer Arietinum L.) as Influence by Application of Different Harvest Timing and Sulphur Fertiliser(Scibulcom Ltd., 2015) Dogan, Y.; Togay, N.; Togay, Y.; Doğan, Yusuf; Department of Plant Protection / Bitki Koruma BölümüThe objectives of this research were to study the effect of harvesting time and sulphur levels on the yield, protein and mineral nutritional value of chickpea seeds. Three different harvesting times (early, on-time and late) and four sulphur levels (0, 20, 40 and 60 kg ha–1) were used. Yield, protein ratio and mineral nutritional value of chickpea were significantly affected by sulphur and harvest timing. The highest grain yields according to the harvest time were obtained from on-time harvest with 1527 and 1434 kg ha–1 for the first and second years, respectively. The lowest grain yields were obtained from the control plots, whereas the highest values were obtained from the plots given 60 kg ha–1 sulphur. Generally, protein, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, copper, zinc, and manganese concentrations of the seeds in on-time harvest and 60 kg ha–1 sulphur aplication were found to be greater than in early and late harvested plants. Positive significant relationships were found between harvest time and protein (r = 0.64**), Fe (r = 0.75**) and Zn (r = 0.27*). Positive significant relationships were found between sulphur doses and grain yield (r = 0.44*), protein (r = 0.26*), P (r = 0.71**), K (r = 0.73**), Ca (r = 0.36**), Mg (r = 0.76*), Zn (r = 0.57) and S (r = 0.96*). © 2015, Scibulcom Ltd. The novel compounds have been characterized by using various spectroscopic data FTIR, UV/vis, NMR, elemental analysis etc. The aggregation investigations carried out in different concentrations indicate that 4- (4-(1-(4-phenoxypheny1)-1-phenylethyl)phenoxy)phthalonitrile substituted phthalocyanine compounds do not have any aggregation behavior for the concentration range of 10(-4)-10(-5) M in tetrahydrofuran. The antioxidant properties of the phthalonitrile and its phthalocyanine compounds were evaluated in three series of in vitro tests: DPPH free radical scavenging, ferrous ion chelating activity and reducing power. Dahliae(Fundacion Romulo Raggio, 2020) Tok, F.M.; Derviş, Sibel; Dervis, S.; Yetisir, H.; Department of Organic Agriculture / Organik Tarım BölümüForty-four V. dahliae isolates were collected from symptomatic vascular tissues of okra plants each from a different field in eight provinces located in the eastern Mediterranean and western Anatolia regions of Turkey during 20062009. Nitrate-nonutilizing (nit) mutants of V. dahliae from okra were used to determine heterokaryosis and genetic relatedness among isolates. All isolates from okra plants were grouped into two vegetative compatibility groups (VCGs) (1 and 2) and three subgroups as 1A (13.6%, 6/44), 2A (20.5%, 9/44) and 2B (65.9%, 29/44) according to international criteria. Pathogenicity tests were performed on a susceptible local okra (A. esculentus) landrace in greenhouse conditions. All isolates from VCG1A and VCG2B induced defoliation (D) and partial defoliation (PD) symptoms, respectively. Other isolates from VCG2A gave rise to typical leaf chlorosis symptoms without defoliation. The obtained data showed that the virulence level of V. dahliae isolates from okra was related to their VCG belongings. Eighteen okra landraces from diverse geographical origins were screened for resistance to VCG2B and VCG1A of V. dahliae. The results indicated that all landraces were more susceptible to highly virulent VCG1A-D pathotype displaying D or PD symptoms depending on their susceptibility levels with a mean disease severity index of 3.52 than to less virulent VCG2B-PD pathotype of V. dahliae displaying PD and ND symptoms with a mean disease severity index of 2.52. Significant differences were observed among the landraces; [however, none of them exhibited a level of resistance. Okra landraces; [Çorum, Hatay Has and Şanlıurfa displayed the lowest level of susceptibility or little tolerance to both D and PD pathotypes. VCG2B of PD was prevailing in the surveyed areas and VCG1A of D was the most virulent of the VCGs identified. Introduction of resistant genotypes to Turkish okra germplasm from different sources and breeding new resistant okra cultivars are critical for the sustainability of okra production. © 2020, Fundacion Romulo Raggio.
