Asaf Muammer, in Respect to His Opposition against Committee of Union and Progress
    (2013) Küçükali, Gökmen; Erdemir, Lokman
In this study, mostly based on Asaf Muammer's articles published in Söz Gazette in 1918 and his other articles he wrote along his life-time and the matters interpreted by Asaf Muammer, the issues discussed in his works have been enlightened painstakingly thanks to the additional excerpts related to the subjects he focused on. In the first chapter of the study, comprised of three parts, which deals with Asaf Muammer's diatribes, the following issues have been discussed: movements of thought during the 2nd Constitutional Monarchy period, formation of Committee of Union and Progress (İttihat ve Terakki), their ruling, corruptions in the government and the oppositions against them. The second chapter deals with Asaf Muammer's revelations and comments -and other important issues- about unsolved murders during this term when Committee of Union and Progress was in power, suppression of opponents, allegations about abuse of power, Mondros Armistice and assessment of life-conditions during the occupation, judgments about press regulations and the punishments given to those being active during this period. The other arguments dealt with in this part are how and which way Asaf Muammer engaged in the incidents which happened during War of Independence and Republic Period. The third chapter focuses on both his thoughts about economy, culture and social life and what he did about these issues. Publishing of Asaf Muammer's literary works written in a critical approach was not possible until the time when the Young Turks was overthrown. His assessments and statements make us question our current understanding of the Young Turks who had a significant influence on the last years of the Ottoman State. What makes his works so significant is that he tried not only to establish public opinion for creating a common-sense and to keep the people united and well-informed, but to free Ottoman Homeland from dire conditions as well.
