Abstract
Due to its geopolitical location, historical, social and cultural structure, Turkey is the country most affected by the migrant crisis that started in 2011 due to internal turmoil in Syria. As of 2021, more than 3 million Syrians have migrated to Turkey and a new social group has emerged in Turkey. This situation has led to social and cultural problems between the local people in Turkey and Syrian immigrants. As a border city, the province of Mardin has been one of the regions where this cultural tension is observed most intensely. For this reason, understanding the perception of the local people in Mardin towards Syrian immigrants will contribute to the understanding of the integration process of immigrant and immigrant communities. For this purpose, interviews were conducted with 30 participants from the local people in Mardin. As a result of the interviews consisting of 15 questions, the perception of the local people towards Syrian immigrants and the economic, cultural, social and social factors affecting this were examined. As a result of the research, it has been observed that the local people mostly have negative judgments towards Syrian immigrants and this perception makes social adaptation difficult. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to increase the necessary social adaptation studies.
