Clinical Sociology: From a Sociology at the Margins To an Intervention Sociology

Abstract

Toplumsalı anlama ya da açıklama biçimi olarak sosyoloji, klasik geleneğinden bu yana büyük epistemolojik birikimini kavramsal ve kuramsal bakiyesini de göz önüne alarak gündelik hayat sosyolojisindeki değişimlere odaklamış ve olası entelektüel çıkarımlarını yeni bir eksene doğru kaydırmış görünmektedir. Bu eksen, sosyolojik düşüncenin derinliğine ve çerçevesine büyük bir ivme kazandıracak gibi görünmektedir. Sosyolojik teoriyi toplumsal alandan başlamak üzere 'klinik' bir eksene oturtmaya çalışan bu yeni ivme, sosyal değişim parametrelerini beden, patoloji, müdahale ve travma bağlamında yeniden okumaya tabi tutmaktadır. Sosyolojinin epistemolojik çeperlerini genişletme gayesi taşıyan bu tezde, toplumsal sınırlarda dolaşan sosyolojinin bir klinik müdahale biçimi olarak teorik/pratik bir genişleme sağlayıp sağlamayacağı tartışma konusu yapılmıştır. Tartışma, sosyolojik bir kavram olarak kliniğin, toplumsal bedende patolojik olandan kesitler edinerek sorunun iyileşmesini sağlayan interdisipliner bir çabaya doğru evrilmiştir. Öyle ki klinik sosyolog, sorunlu davranışın istenen yönde değişimi için tek tek bireylerle, ailelerle, gruplarla, kurumlarla ve hatta uluslararası düzeyde bile faaliyet yürütebilmektedir. Dolayısıyla sınırdan bir sosyolojiden müdahale yapabilen ve bizzat alandan patolojik veriler toplayarak toplumsal, bireysel veya kurumsal tüm düzeylerde metodolojik bir iş birliğine imkân sağlayan yeni bir müdahale sosyoloji söz konusudur. Özetle bu çalışmadaki amaç, sosyolojik teoriyi kullanıma ve uygulamaya sokmaya çalışan klinik sosyolojiye dair detaylı bir literatür taraması yapmak ve klinik sosyolojiyi Türkiye sosyolojisine kazandırmaktır. Aynı zamanda klinik sosyolog etiketi altında, sosyolojinin güncel ve aktif kullanım alanlarının çeşitliliğini ortaya koymaktır.

As a way of understanding and explaining the social, sociology has, since its classical tradition, focused on changes in the sociology of everyday life, taking into account its vast epistemological heritage, as well as its conceptual and theoretical framework. This shift appears to be moving sociological inquiry onto a new axis, one that has the potential to reinvigorate the depth and scope of sociological thought. This new momentum, which seeks to position sociological theory within a 'clinical' framework starting from the social domain, reinterprets parameters of social change through the lenses of the body, pathology, intervention, and trauma. This dissertation, aiming to expand the epistemological boundaries of sociology, explores whether sociology at the margins of the social can provide a theoretical and practical expansion as a form of clinical intervention. The discussion evolves toward an interdisciplinary effort where the notion of the clinic, as a sociological concept, extracts pathological patterns from the social body and facilitates remedial processes. In this sense, the clinical sociologist can engage in activities targeting individuals, families, groups, institutions, and even international dynamics to alter problematic behaviours in the desired direction. Thus, what emerges is a new sociology of intervention, one that operates at the margins, conducts direct fieldwork on pathological data, and enables methodological collaboration at social, individual, and institutional levels. In summary, this study aims to conduct a comprehensive literature review on clinical sociology, introduce the concept into Turkish sociology, and highlight the diversity of contemporary and active applications of sociology under the label of clinical sociology.
