Abstract
evrenini Mardin Kredi Yurtlar Kurumunda kalan sağlık
dışındaki bölümlerde okuyan 520 öğrenci oluşturmuştur.
Araştırmada, literatür taraması sonucu hazırlanan 3
bölümlük anket formu, yüz yüze görüşme tekniği ile
uygulanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde yüzdelik hesaplama,
ortalama Ki-Kare testi kullanılmıştır. p <0.05 istatistiksel
olarak anlamlı kabul edilmiştir.
Bulgular: Araştırma kapsamına alınan öğrencilerin
%87,5’i (n=398) lisans, %12,5’i (n=57) ön lisans
öğrencisidir. Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin %54,9’unun
(n=250) Kendi Kendine Meme Muayenesi’ nin ne
olduğunu bildiği, bunlardan %55,6’sının (n=216) gerekli
bilgiyi sağlık personelinden aldığı görülmüştür.
Öğrencilerin %63,5’i (n=289) Kendi Kendine Meme
Muayenesi’ ni kimlerin yapması gerektiği; %30,5’ i
(n=139) Kendi Kendine Meme Muayenesi’ ne başlama
yaşını; %12,1’i (n=55) Kendi Kendine Meme Muayenesi’
nin zamanlamasının öğrenciler tarafından doğru bilindiği
tespit edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin %49,2’ si (n=224) Kendi
Kendine Meme Muayenesi’nin nasıl yapıldığını bildiğini,
%39,6’ sının (n=180) Kendi Kendine Meme
Muayenesi’ni yaptığını ifade etmiştir. Araştırma
kapsamına alınan ve Kendi Kendine Meme Muayenesi’ ni
yapan öğrencilerin %43,3’ünün (n=78) ayda 1 defa
düzenli olarak, %15,0’nın (n=27) adet kanamasından 5-
7 gün sonra Kendi Kendine Meme Muayenesi’ ni yaptığı
belirlenmiştir. Kendi Kendine Meme Muayenesi’ ni hiç
uygulamayan öğrencilerin (n=275) %28,7’si “Nasıl
yapılacağı gösterilmediği için”, “Ne arayacağımı
bilmediğim için” yanıtını vermişlerdir.
Sonuçlar: Araştırma bulgularına dayanarak öğrencilerin
Kendi Kendine Meme Muayenesini yeterince bilmedikleri,
Kendi Kendine Meme Muayenesi yaptığını ifade eden
öğrencilerin ise yarısından azının her ay düzenli olarak
yaptığı tespit edilmiştir. Kendi Kendine Meme Muayenesi
hakkında bilgi sahibi olmama, çok meşgul olma, unutma,
utanma gibi faktörlerin muayene yapamamada etkili
olduğu bulunmuştur.
Objective: This survey was conducted to determine the level of information, practice, attitude and awareness concerning breast self-examination of female students enrolled to departments other than health and staying in Girls Dormitory of Mardin Artuklu University Credit and Dormitories İnstitution. Method: This descriptive study was conducted in the period October 2015-February 2016. The universe consisted of 520 students enrolled to various university departments other than health and staying in Mardin Credit and Dormitories Institution. In the survey, a questionnaire composed of 3 parts and designed after going over the literature was administered during face-to face interviews. Percentages and average Chi-Square Test were used in data analysis. p <0.05 was accepted as statistically significant. Findings: 87.5% of students (n=398) covered by the survey are in undergraduate and 12.5%’ (n=57) are in two-year programme. 54.9% (n=250) of these students have information about what Breast Self-Examination is and 55.6% (n=216) of these students received this information from health personnel. 63.5% (n=289) of students have correct information on who should conduct Breast Self-Examination; 30.5% (n=139) on the age of starting Breast Self-Examination; and 12.1% (n=55) on the timing of Breast Self-Examination. 49.2% (n=224) of students know how to conduct Breast Self-Examination and 39.6% (n=180) stated to have conducted this examination. It is found that 43.3% (n=78) of students stating to have conducted Breast Self-Examination did this regularly once a month and 15.0% (n=27) 5-7 days after menstruation. As to students not doing Breast Self Examination (n=275), 28.7% stated “it has never been demonstrated how to do it” and “for not knowing what to look for” as their reasons. Outcomes: The findings of the survey indicate that students’ information about Self-Examination is not sufficient and of those who are informed about this examination less than half do it regularly every month. It is also found that lack of information about Breast Self Examination, extreme business and embarrassment are the factors that keep students away from this examination.
