Article Attitudes of Married Women with Advanced Maternal Age and their Spouses Towards Family Planning and Evaluation of the Effects of Trainings related to This Issue(Interventions in Gynaecology & Women’s Healthcare. A Qualitative Study of Healthcare Staff(3. Uluslararası ACHARAKA Tıp, Hemşirelik ve Sağlık Bilimleri Kongresi, 2023) Bütün, AhmetBackground: Emergency departments (EDs) are the units where the diagnosis and treatment of acute cases requiring immediate intervention and the ED environment could be chaotic and risky for staff and patients. However, ED overcrowding is a major problem globally and lead to many negative consequences such as long waiting time, reduced satisfaction of patients and healthcare staff, delays in the treatment of patients who most require urgent care, decreased quality of the health care provided, and increased health care costs. The aim of this study is to determine why patients prefer to use the ED, to identify current problems of ED services and to develop solutions to alleviate ED overcrowding and associated problems from the perspectives of ED healthcare staff. Methods: This study utilised a qualitative approach. The participants were ED consultants, ED doctors and ED nurses. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 22 participants between 20th December 2021 and 18th February 2022. Those who have at least 1 year of experience in ED settings were included in this study. The settings for this study were Diyarbakir Training and Research Hospital (4 ED nurses, 1 ED consultant, and 2 ED doctors), Mardin Training and Research Hospital (3 ED nurses and 2 ED doctors), Midyat Public Hospital (1 ED consultant, 1 ED doctor and 3 ED nurse), Kiziltepe Public Hospital (3 ED nurse), and Ceylanpinar Public Hospital (1 ED nurse and 1 ED doctor). Ethical approval was obtained from Mardin Artuklu University Ethics Committee (Date: 14/12/2021, Ref: E-76272411-900-36850). Findings: Twenty-two ED healthcare staff were interviewed; 16 were male and 6 were female. The participants were aged between 21-30 (n=12), 31-40 (n=6) and 41-50 (n=4). ED staff interviews were conducted with 14 ED nurses, 6 ED doctors, and 2 ED consultants, who had at least 1-year of work experience in the ED, without any consideration of their gender or age. Five main themes emerged: Insufficient healthcare system, patient-related problems, ED advantages, consequences of ED overcrowding, and solutions for ED overcrowding. Conclusion: Insufficient healthcare system, ED advantages, and patients’ perceptions about using healthcare services led patients to use ED and subsequently to the ED overcrowding. There is a need for effective solutions to alleviate ED overcrowding. The precautions to limit non-urgent ED visits are not enough. Many factors need to be considered and all of them should be applied together accordingly.Conference Object Çocuklarda Burun Kanaması Prevalansı, İlişkili Faktörler, Sebepler ve Tedavi Yaklaşımları: Mardin İli Örneği(15. Patients and MethodsArticle Discrimination Based on Sexual Orientation “Homophobia in Healthcare Employees”: a Cross-Sectional Study(Springer, 2024) Bayram Değer, Vasfiye; Kaçan, HavvaIntroduction: The study was conducted to examine the attitudes of healthcare employees toward homosexuals and the factors affecting them, while homophobic thoughts and behaviors are based on heteronormative cultural beliefs and gender stereotypes. Methods: This study was planned as a cross-sectional and completed with 720 healthcare employees. The Demographic Information Form and Hudson and Ricketts Homophobia Scale were used in the study. Data were collected between January 06 and January 10, 2022. Results: The mean homophobia total score of the employees was determined as 97,503 ± 25,807. Homophobia levels of male healthcare employees, those who thought homosexuality is a disease, and those who stated that homosexuality can be caused by taking an example had increasing homophobia levels. The level of homophobia decreases in the presence of homosexual friends, those who can talk freely about homosexuality, and healthcare employees who support same-sex marriage. Conclusions: Recognition of individuals with different sexual orientations by healthcare employees will reduce homophobic attitudes toward these individuals. Examining the level of homophobia in healthcare institutions and ensuring that discriminatory attitudes or behaviors toward individuals from different sexual orientations are determined to be effective on the quality of healthcare and access to healthcare services. Policy Implications: There is a healthcare system in which patients are generally assumed to be heterosexual; healthcare employees are not prepared to work with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transsexual patients in general. Studies conducted on this subject indicate that more studies are needed on the subject to implement a healthcare policy focusing on sexual diversity in healthcare services and to discuss healthcare practices for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transsexual population.Article Domestic violence and affectıng factors among married women aged between 15-49 Years(Medicine Science, 2020) Çifçi, Sema; Açık, YaseminDomestic violence against women is an important public health problem commonly encountered in all societies, manifesting itself as a negative outcome of gender inequality. This study has been carried out in Mardin province to determine the prevalence of exposure to domestic violence among women aged between 15-49 years and the affecting factors. The population of the study consisted of the women aged between 15-49 years living in Mardin and 1111 people were selected for sampling. Through repeated visits, 1064 people were included in the study (the responsiveness rate was 95.8%). x² (chi-square) test was used in the statistical analysis. The average age of women was 32.5 ± 8.2. 29.4% of them were illiterate. 47.5% of them were married by prearrangement. 25.9% of them were subjected to physical violence by their father and 37.6% by their mother in the past. The women were exposed to physical (44.5%), verbal/emotional (56.4%), economic (37.7%), and sexual violence (14.8%) at least once in their lifetime. 13.2% of them are still exposed to domestic physical violence, 15.8% to verbal/emotional violence, and 7.3% to sexual violence. As the educational levels, socioeconomic status, and monthly income of women and their husbands decrease, the rate of exposure to violence increases (p <0.05). The factors such as being married by bride exchange and bride price, having a familial history of honor killing, living with a co-wife, experiencing childhood violence, having an alcoholic and gambling husband increase the rate of exposure of women to violence (p <0.05). Domestic violence against women was found to be significantly high in Mardin province. Considering the socio-economic and cultural conditions of the region, legal and social regulations should be enforced in cooperation with non-governmental organizations, public institutions as well as local and national press.Article Eating Behavior Changes of People With Obesity During the Covid-19 Pandemic(Dove Medical Press Ltd, 2021) Deger, Vasfiye BayramObjective: The precautions taken during the pandemic period may cause stress-related eating behavior disorders. It was aimed to test this hypothesis, and the study was carried out to examine pandemic measures the effect of on the nutritional, depression and stress conditions of people with obesity. Methods: The individuals who participated in the study were people with obesity who received follow-up dietary therapy in a private hospital. Three separate scales were applied to the individuals, which measured the desire to overeating request, depression status and stress-fighting status. Results: This study was conducted on 368 individuals. Women had lower values of BMI (28.57 +/- 3.89 kg/cm(2)) than men ( 30.64 +/- 2.87 kg/cm(2)). When the scores of the excessive eating request scale mean scores before and during the pandemic were examined, it was seen that the scores of the individuals increased during the pandemic. In the multivariate regression model, it was seen that the increase of stress and BMI increased the FCQ score (p<0.001). Multiple regression models were created by taking into account the criteria that caused the score increase. Each variable can predict the FCQ score separately. The predictor significance order of variants on FCQ score beta values is as follows: the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) (beta=0.774), before pandemic FCQ (beta = 0.601), the Perceived Stress Scale ( PSS) (beta=-0.268), before pandemic BMIa (beta=-0.223), during pandemic BMIb (beta=0.073), and age (beta=-0.013). Conclusion: COVID-19 pandemic, making applications such as quarantine in pandemic processes has successful results in being able to combat its. However, undesirable conditions such as stress can have serious negative consequences on other health measurements. It was observed in the results of this study that excessive eating food desire developed in people with obesity.Editorial Editorial: Anxiety, burnout, and stress among healthcare professionals(Frontiers, 2023) Bayram Değer, VasfiyeThe technology, informatics and social fields are experiencing continuous changes and developments day by day. Such changes and developments influence human life and expand the fields of research. One of these fields is the world of work life. Work life is an area where people spend a significant part of their lives by spending time and effort. The willingness of employees to make quality use of their time and labor significantly affects the efficiency obtained as a result of their work (Burton, 2010). The nature of the work requirements and the quantity of communication with other people in the workplace create challenging situations for employees. In this context, when it comes to health in work life, health workers are seen as an important sample group in terms of researching variables in work life, since their field requires qualified labor force, is vital and is a profession that constantly involves face-to-face interaction with people. The health sector is one of the sectors where employees have the most difficulties due to various factors. The health sector differs from other working environments due to the difficulty of serving patients with severe stress and the fact that employees in this sector often face stressful situations in their daily working environment.Article The Effect of Satisfaction in Implementing Professional Behaviors in Nursing Students(International Journal of Caring Sciences, 2019) ÇİFTÇİOĞLU GülcanAbstract Background: Professionalism is a significant objective for all professions that is a must factor in health disciplines. In addition, the chemical solvents and the high temperature used in vegetable oils extraction process from seeds cause severe loss of many vital compounds. So the goal of this paper was to examine the effect of cold pressed Eruca sativa Mill seeds oil (ESSO), as a source of LCMUFA, on hyperlipidemia and NAFLD in Syrian hamster. The ESSO content of fatty acids was analyzed using chromatographic methods. Fifty two (52) healthy male golden Syrian hamsters used in this experiment were randomly divided into 4 groups (Completely Randomized Design). Negative control group, CHD group, positive control group and ESSO group. This experiment was achieved in two periods. The first period continued 4 weeks, in which hyperlipidemia and NAFLD were induced in CHD, positive control and ESSO groups through feeding on a hyperlipidemic diet. The second period also lasted 4 weeks, in which ESSO was orally gavaged at 2 g/kg of the body weight daily to animals of ESSO group. The levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides, HDL-C and glucose and the activities of ALT, AST, ALP, LDH and CK were analysed in the serum. One way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan's multiple range test was used for statistical analysis. The consumption of hyperlipidemic diet for 4 weeks caused a significant raise (P<0.05) of triglycerides, glucose, ALT, AST, LDH, CK and a significant reduction (P<0.05) of the HDL-C/TC ratio, at the same time created lipid accumulation in liver cells in CHD, positive control and ESSO groups in comparison with negative control group at the end of the first period. These negative influences were alleviated in ESSO group by administration of ESSO at the end of second period. In conclusion, The examined cold pressed ESSO has effective hypolipidemic and hepatoprotective effects in Syrian hamsters with hyperlipidemia and NAFLD.
