Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiThere are food and plant wastes that cause environmental pollution in many countries around the world. Waste materials are one of the most unconscious uses. With the rapid increase in production, consumption and insensitive communities, industrialization and increasing population cause an intense increase in waste. In order to ensure environmental order and balance, waste must be evaluated and reused in recycling facilities. Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is one of the important oilseed plants and is also considered a protein source in many countries. According to current scientific reports it is known that peanuts have many biological activities such as anti-cancer, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Peanut pulp can be used as a raw material source in the production of cellulose fiber products and it can be used in food products, agricultural activities, industry and cosmetics. It is especially common in the recycling field to use it as mulch for plant roots, as natural fertilizer and as chipboard in the field of furniture. In our study, cold-pressed peanut pulp was transformed into products and products with high added value with enriched formulations. © 2024, Jomard Publishing. Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiPollution of the environment is one of the most significant problems of our generation and the future as our living spaces shrink. Waste materials is the first of many sources of environmental pollution. Waste must be evaluated and reused in recycling facilities to ensure environmental order and balance. This study evaluated the pulp of the Nigella sativa L., seed plant, whose oil was removed by a cold pressing method and turned it into value-added products. Particularly, pulp and Nigella sativa L., seeds have healing and nutritionally rich qualities. Nigella sativa L., pulp was made into a skin mask and used as an added value product in the study. © 2024, Jomard Publishing. Oil and Pulp(Jomard Publishing, 2024) Karadağ, Murat; Baran, Ayşe; Güneş, Zübeyir; 16.03. Department of Medical and Aromatic Plants / Tıbbi ve Aromatik Bitkiler Bölümü; 02.12. Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiRecycling, in its literal sense, is the recycling of obsolete recyclable waste materials into manufacturing processes as raw materials through various recycling methods. We can say that a lot of waste is generated in environmental and industrial terms. Sunflower (Helianthus annus L.) is one of the major oil crops grown in the world for the production of edible and biodiesel oil. A large number of plant and raw material wastes, especially those used in food products, are recycled into cleaning, health, cosmetic and industrial products. In this study, the cold-pressed oil and pulp obtained from the seeds of the sunflower plant were evaluated and transformed into an added-value cosmetic product. Especially the fact that it contains other valuable compounds such as phenolic compounds, fatty acids, fibers, vitamins, minerals and polyphenols increases the popularity of the value-added product. Within the scope of our work, we produced two value-added products. These products are creams containing sunflower oil, which has nourishing, moisturizing and protective properties and the other product is a skin mask containing sunflower pulp. As our university specializes in added-value agricultural products, our product production is increasing day by day. © 2024, Jomard Publishing. Department of Sociology / Sosyoloji Bölümü; 02. Faculty of Letters / Edebiyat Fakültesi; 01. Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiThis paper discusses the gendered nature of reproductive citizenship in contemporary Turkey through reading the abortion chronicles and exposes the utilization of women's bodies and subjection of women to demographic state policies. To this end, we focus on recent abortion debates originating from Prime Minister Erdogan's statement on May 25, 2012 that suggested that "every abortion is a murder". Our paper is a qualitative analysis of the arguments of the members of the parliament following PM's statement on abortion. We documented and contextualized the recurrent themes; (1) abortion as a rhetorical tool, (2) trivialization of abortion, (3) medicalization of abortion, (4) abortion in the cases of rape, (5) abortion as an economic imperative. As a result, we unravel the gendered discursive limits of "pro-abortion" arguments in Turkey and reveal the frameworks within which the political debates are shaped when women's bodies, sexualities and reproductive capacities are at stake. Department of Sociology / Sosyoloji Bölümü; 02. Faculty of Letters / Edebiyat Fakültesi; 01. Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiAlthough modernity considers religion as a fable, religion has always been part of modern politics. The return of religion' in global politics, which marks the contemporary political and cultural imagination, accentuates this paradox. Religion has now become indispensible for the idea of truth. In this article, I approach this problematique by discussing the relationship between religion and art in terms of their relation to the idea of truth. In this respect, I focus on a Turkish film, Ulak (The Messenger), and analyze the film's thought about religion and the link it establishes between the artistic/narrative fable and the idea of truth. The film's choice of Gnosticism as the language of the dispossessed indicates a political position in relation to both the return of religion' and the popularity of the cultural turn in politics. On this basis, the article examines the film's take on the concept of the event as a miracle (in religious messianism), contrasting it with the philosophy of revolution. Thus, it navigates the ambivalent border between art and non-art, between the mystic fable and politics. With modernity, it is said that, art has replaced religion and borrowed its sacredness. A reverse process in place today: a resacralization of art and politics. Art and religion share a common element: illusion. However, art profanes illusion, while religion sacralizes it. On this basis, the article concludes that Ulak is a cinematic form of antiphilosophy. It is a spectacular movie as a critique of institutional religion, yet it is captivated by the understanding of truth as a miracle, by the truth of the fable. Following Badiou, who views art as a truth procedure, one could say that Ulak's potential to clarify the value of the truth event remains questionable.
