Article Citation - WoS: 33Are Lesson Plans Created by ChatGPT More Effective? An Experimental Study(INT SOC TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION, 2024) Karaman, Muhammet Remzi; Göksu, İdrisIn this research, we aimed to determine whether students' math achievements improved using ChatGPT, one of the chatbot tools, to prepare lesson plans in primary school math courses. The research was conducted with a pretest-posttest control group experimental design. The study comprises 39 third-grade students (experimental group = 24, control group = 15). The implementation process lasted five weeks and 25 lesson hours. In the experimental group, lessons were taught according to plans prepared using ChatGPT, while in the control group, existing lesson plans were used. Students' academic achievement was measured with a multiple-choice achievement test of 25 questions with two separate questions for each learning objective. According to the results, students' academic achievement increased significantly (d = 1.268) in math lessons taught according to lesson plans prepared using the ChatGPT. Although there was a difference between the posttest scores of the experimental group and the control group in favor of the experimental group, it was determined that this difference was not significant. These results show that teaching primary school math according to lesson plans prepared using ChatGPT is effective in academic achievement. Teachers should consider ChatGPT and their plans, combining them and benefiting from both in the implementation process.Article Citation - WoS: 7Citation - Scopus: 9Attitudes promoting coping with death anxiety among parents of children with disabilities(Taylor and Francis Online, 2021) Kaçan, Havva; Sakız, Halis; Bayram Deger, VasfiyeWe investigated death anxiety among parents of children with disabilities and its associations with coping attitudes and psycho-demographic factors. Surveys were administered to 382 parents of children who possess a severe disability and data were analyzed via descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that parents experienced high levels of death anxiety; the level of death anxiety changed according to some psycho-demographic factors, such as external support, type of disability, and death-related beliefs; and death anxiety was significantly explained by demographic variables, death-related thoughts, and experiences, and adaptive and maladaptive coping attitudes.Article Citation - WoS: 9Citation - Scopus: 18The cathedral complex at Nisibis(CAMBRIDGE UNIV PRESS, 2013) Keser Kayaalp, Elif; Erdoğan, NihatThe cathedral complex at Nisibis sits within what is currently a large excavation site. The excavations, continuing on and off over the last 12 years, have yielded exciting discoveries. This article is not a report of the excavations as such, but, in the light of them, it revisits the cathedral complex in an attempt to reconstruct the possible cathedral on the site and to establish the building phases of the only standing structure on the site, known as the 'Church of Mor Yaqub', which was the baptistery of the cathedral.Article Diyarbakır’da Osmanlı Dönemi Şehir-İçi Hanları Üzerine Değerlendirme(2015) Yeşilbaş, EvindarOur research is about Diyarbakir's architectural features and the city's busy trade potential between the period of the Ottoman rule of Diyarbakir and the Republican term. It was found that there were 25 caravansaries that were known their name in Diyarbakir until the period of Ottoman. Only four of these caravansaries reached completely or partially up to now; when it comes to the location, only nine of them could be identified by archival documents; there was no information about the other structures except their names. The planning, the external mass, the internal appearance and the material used in these architectures remain connected with the Ottoman tradition, but they mainly exhibit regional characteristics. According to our data, all the inns which we identified their planning styles, were built by doing some user spaces around a courtyard. The flat roofs with wooden girder, the crib with a dome, mirrored and cross vaults were applied variations. The dome transitions were provided by squinches. Diyarbakir trade buildings were mostly made of dark basalt stone in cutting method as well as white or yellowish lime that were ordered alternatively. It was concluded that the structures had decoration styles exhibiting characteristics of their period to a certain extent. The simple decoration style away from exaggeration was in floral, geometric, and partly written arrangements. It was found that in Diyarbakir which has a rich architecture with numerous and different types of structures, several buildings were built by state for the progress of trade in both regional and international trade network in reliable ways and stable conditions; however, some of these structures lost their essential features because of several damages, unconscious interventions and some additions while some others were neglected. Article Citation - WoS: 70Citation - Scopus: 83Effects of Phubbing: Relationships With Psychodemographic Variables(SAGE, 2020) Ergün, Naif; Göksu, İdris; Sakız, HalisThe aim of this research is twofold: First, to adapt the Generic Scale of Phubbing and the Generic Scale of Being Phubbed into Turkish language and culture. Second, to investigate the relationships between phubbing, being phubbed, and various psychodemographic variables including anxiety, depression, negative self, somatization, hostility, loneliness, life satisfaction, and phone use duration. The two scales were adapted to Turkish with high psychometric properties, and the original item numbers were preserved. Analysis of the associations between variables showed that (1) phubbing was associated negatively with loneliness and positively with all other variables; (2) there was a strong relationship between phubbing and phone use duration; (3) somatization, satisfaction with life, and phone use duration predicted phubbing; (4) phubbing predicted all variables except satisfaction with life; (5) being phubbed was associated negatively with loneliness and satisfaction with life and positively with all other variables; and (6) anxiety, negative self, and hostility predicted being phubbed. This study is innovative for introducing two phubbing scales to Turkish and highlighting the psychological impact of phubbing on individuals.Article Citation - WoS: 14Citation - Scopus: 17Inclusive Mental Health Support for International Students: Unveiling Delivery Components in Higher Education(Cambridge Univ Press, 2024) Sakiz, Halis; Jencius, MartyThis study examines the delivery components of inclusive mental health services in higher education, centering on international university students. Through interviews with 32 participants at a state university in the United States, including students, counseling staff, and faculty, six key themes emerged: mental health professionals' multicultural self-awareness, focus on reparative services, mainstream mental health theories and approaches, professionals' cultural background, faculty involvement and physical space and confidentiality. These findings underscore the importance of training for professionals, expansive mental health offerings, incorporation of diverse approaches, confidentiality, active faculty participation and suitable physical environments. By addressing these components, universities can enhance the quality of mental health support for international student populations, promoting their overall well-being and academic success.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 1Intentions to Return and Migrate to the Third Countries: A Socio-Demographic Investigation Among Syrians in Turkey(SpringerLink, 2023) Ergün, Naif; Zafer Özkan, Ayberk Eryılmaz, Naif ErgünTurkey hosts the highest number of Syrians in the world. While some of them intend to migrate to Western countries, others intend to return to their homeland. In a cross-sectional study, we examined several socio-demographic associates with their migration intentions (N=358). Results revealed that their intentions to migrate were related to factors such as gender, living in the East or West in the host country, employment status, the language spoken at home, owning a property in the host country, accommodation conditions (living in a camp, staying with relatives, e.g.), and education level. Moreover, the strongest correlates of intention to return were years spent in Turkey, perceived threat in Syria, the number of children, and age. Finally, the strongest correlates for intentions to migrate to Western countries were Turkish speaking level, the number of children, and family income. We discuss the fndings in relation to the integration paradox hypothesis.Article Citation - WoS: 2Lake Van Basin Urartian Period Road Routes Survey: First Preliminary Report (2017-2018): Muradiye And Tuşba Districts(Ege Univ, 2021) Gokce, Bilcan; Kuvanc, Rifat; Genc, BulentFor about two-hundred-fifty years between the mid-9th - early 6th centuries BC, the Urartian Kingdom established its hegemony in Eastern Anatolia and the neighboring regions of Northwestern Iran, Nakhchivan, and Armenia, as the most influential political, military, and economic power of its time. Despite the rugged geography and rough climatic conditions of this mountainous terrain, the Urartu thrived by developing a centralized administrative state apparatus. Urartu excelled in many areas of state-building, including road networks. Particularly textual sources and supporting archaeological evidence demonstrate the importance of road networks for the Urartian state. Surveys in Tushba and Muradiye districts have allowed us to identify the main route of the northern capital road, which continues north and reaches Muradiye Plain, and an alternative northern route that follows the Karasu Stream valley towards Muradiye Plain. An eastern route, which enabled the kingdom to exert control in Northwestern Iran, goes through Ozalp district of Van province across the modern border to Iran and reaches Hoy and Salmas. These alternative and auxiliary routes along deep canyons that developed over time suggest that the Urartian state had established an intricate security web in its dominion.Article Citation - WoS: 5Citation - Scopus: 6Length estimation of Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) using vertebrae(Wiley, 2022) Andrews, Adam J.; Mylona, Dimitra; Rivera-Charún, Lucia; Winter, Rachel; Onar, Vedat; Sıddıq, Abu Bakar; Tinti, Fausto; Morales-Muniz, ArturoAtlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus; BFT) is a large (up to 3.3 m in length) pelagic predator which has been exploited throughout the eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean since prehistoric times, as attested by its archeological remains. One key insight derivable from these remains is body size, which can indicate past fishing abilities, the impact of fishing, and past migration behavior. Despite this, there exists no reliable method to estimate the size of BFT found in archeological sites. Here, 13 modern Thunnus spp. skeletons were studied to provide power regression equations that estimate body length from vertebra dimensions. In modern specimens, the majority of BFT vertebrae can be differentiated by their morphological features, and thus, individual regression equations can be applied for each rank (position in vertebral column). In an archeological context, poor preservation may limit one's ability to identify rank; hence, “types” of vertebrae were defined, which enable length estimates when rank cannot be determined. At least one vertebra dimension, height, width, or length correlated highly with body length when vertebrae were ranked (R2 > 0.97) or identified to types (R2 > 0.98). Whether using rank or type, length estimates appear accurate to approximately ±10%. Finally, the method was applied to a sample of Roman-era BFT vertebrae to demonstrate its potential. It is acknowledged that further studies with larger sample sizes would provide more precision in BFT length estimates.Article Citation - WoS: 13Citation - Scopus: 20A Longitudinal Analysis of Academic Achievement and Its Correlates in Higher Education(SAGE Open, 2021) Sakız, Halis; Özdaş, Faysal; Göksu, İdris; Ekinci, AbdurrahmanAchievement in higher education is gaining importance and attracting attention among educational psychologists who seek for determining its correlates. This study examined longitudinal associations between academic achievement in higher education, university entrance exam performance, the psychosocial climate of the campus, and instructional behavior and socioeconomic status. Data concerning 2,361 students from three universities were collected via surveys and university records at Year 1, Year 2, and Year 4. Socioeconomic status (SES), university exam performance, perceived instructional behavior, and perceived psychosocial climate at Grade 1 were associated positively with academic achievement, perceived instructional behavior, and perceived psychosocial climate at Grade 2 and Grade 4. Indirect effects from SES, university exam performance, perceived instructional behavior, and perceived psychosocial climate at Grade 1 to Grade 4 outcomes were significant, through academic achievement, perceived instructional behavior, and perceived psychosocial climate at Grade 2. These results support that students’ SES, earlier entrance exam performance, and perceptions of their academics’ instructional behaviors and the campus’ psychosocial atmosphere at the first year of university life are associated with their academic achievement at the final year through their relations with the developing levels of academic achievement, perceived instructional behavior, and psychosocial climate of the campus toward the middle of university life.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Lower palatine developmental instability in hybrid Old World camelids(2020) Parés-Casanova, Pere M.; Sıddıq, Abu Bakar; Morilla-Gorgot, Cristina; Onar, VedatObjective: In this research study, we explore the fluctuating asymmetry (FA) of palate Camelus hybrids and their parental species (dromedary and Bactrian). Materials and methods: We studied a sample of pictures from 27 adult skulls of pure Camelus dromedarius (n = 13), Camelus bactrianus (n = 7), and their crosses (n = 7), from two different collections. A set of 11 semilandmarks was located on the palatal region and was studied by means of geometric morphometric methods. The asymmetric variation was analyzed and evaluated for allometric effects, and variation among these three groups was studied using a canonical variates analysis. Results: Among hybrids, there appeared a significantly lower amount of FA in comparison to the parental species, which may reflect the lower levels of genetic stress and higher levels of directional asymmetry, which may suggest the presence of strongly transgressive mastication compared to pure species. Conclusion: Camel hybrids would present increased developmental stability and better adaptation over those of parenteral lines.Article A New Settlement from the Epi-Palaeolithic Period: The Operational Sequence and Techno-Typology of the Knapped Stone Industry at the Kızılin Site (Antalya, Turkey)(2021) Erbil Eşref, Kartal Gizem, Zeynep Beyza AğırsoyKızılin is a cave settlement within the provincial borders of Antalya. The settlement is dated to the Epi-palaeolithic period. Some knapped stone findings were identified during the terrace excavation conducted in this site. This study focuses on examining the knapped stone chaîne opératoire of the inhabitants, and on analyzing the knapped stone findings by a technotypological approach. Our analyses led us to identify all technological phases of knapped stone process practiced at the Kızılin site. Typologically, the knapped stone tool industry was found to consist of microliths and macroliths. It has been observed that the microliths are higher in number compared to the macroliths. In this context, the results obtained were compared with the Epi-palaeolithic layers of Öküzini and Karain settlements where their similarities and differences are revealed. Article Özfırat, A., "Bozkurt Kurgan Mezarlığı Kazıları", Belleten LXXIII-268, 2009: 635-674.(2009) Özfırat, Aynur…Article Özfırat, A., "Doğu Anadolu Yüksek Yaylası'ndan M.Ö. 2.
