VARIATION OF FATTY ACID COMPOSITIONS IN CORIANDRUM(CORIANDRUM SATIVUM L. ) CULTIVAR GROWN IN TWO DIFFERENT ECOLOGY

Abstract
Coriander, Coriandrum sativum L., belonging Apiaceae family is an important spice
plant grown in different locations of Turkey. The study was aimed to investigate the
composition of fatty acid compositions of 6 coriander cultivars (Gamze, Arslan, Erbaa,
Pelmus, Kudret, and Gürb üz) in two different ecologies of Turkey (Tokat and Mardin). The
oils obtained with cold extraction were analyzed by Gas Chromatography. In the Results,
total 22 fatty acids were identified in the cultivars. Petroelinic acid was the major fatty
acid in all varieties, followed by linoleic acid and palmitic acid. The variation of the major
fatty acids was limited in the study. The highest amount of petroselinic acid was changed
between 80.5-82.6% and the highest value was reached in Arslan variety in Mardin.
Palmitic acid, which is saturated fatty acid in all varieties, was found high in Mardin, while
unsaturated fatty acid linoleic acid in Tokat. It was concluded that the effect of regions on
fatty acids was little in the study.
