Abstract
Nowadays, university students can experience intense psychological pressure due to both academic obligations and uncertainties about the future. Over time, these pressures lead to increased levels of burnout and may negatively affect individuals' attitudes toward the future. Spirituality, which plays a significant role in the process of giving meaning to life, emerges in this context as a protective psychological factor. The aim of this study is to examine whether spirituality plays a mediating role in the relationship between university students' burnout levels and their attitudes toward the future. This research was conducted using a quantitative method and involved a study group of 544 undergraduate students at Mardin Artuklu University, including 176 males and 368 females, from the Departments of Theology, Psychology, Midwifery, Arabic Language and Literature, English Language and Literature, Business Administration, and Physical Education and Sports Teaching. Burnout, attitudes toward the future, and spirituality scales were administered to the participants. The collected data were analyzed using statistical methods. The findings indicate that as students' burnout levels increase, their positive attitudes toward the future decrease; however, this negative effect is less pronounced among individuals with higher levels of spirituality. Furthermore, spirituality was found to play a partial mediating role in the relationship between burnout and attitudes toward the future, meaning that this relationship occurs both directly and indirectly through spirituality. The results suggest that approaches based on spiritual values should be considered to reduce burnout levels and support future-oriented attitudes among university students. In this context, it is important for educational institutions to provide environments that support and enhance students' levels of spirituality.
