Abstract
This study was conducted during the 2023/2024 growing season in the Küçükköy district of Mardin province. It was designed according to a split-plot experimental design in randomized blocks to investigate the effects of different zinc (Zn) and phosphorus (P₂O₅) doses on yield and yield components of red lentil. The red lentil cultivar Fırat 87 was used as the plant material. In the study, four different zinc doses (0, 1.5, 3, and 4.5 kg/da) were applied in the form of ZnSO₄·7H₂O, and three different phosphorus doses (0, 2, and 4 kg P₂O₅/da) were applied in the form of triple superphosphate (TSP). The fertilizers were applied at sowing time as a base application. The investigated traits included plant height (cm), first pod height (cm), grain yield (kg/da), number of pods per plant, and biomass weight (kg/da). According to the results, the differences among the mean values obtained from the phosphorus doses were statistically significant (P<0.05) for grain yield and thousand-grain weight. The differences in the mean values for the number of pods per plant were statistically significant for both phosphorus and zinc doses. The highest values for grain yield and thousand-grain weight were obtained from the 4.5 kg/da phosphorus (P₂O₅) dose with 150 kg/da and from the 3 kg/da phosphorus (P₂O₅) dose with 34.92 g, respectively. For the number of pods per plant, the highest values were obtained from the 3 kg/da zinc dose with 27.33 pods/plant and from the 4.5 kg/da phosphorus (P₂O₅) dose with 28.2 pods/plant. The differences among the mean values of zinc doses for the number of branches per plant were found to be significant, with the highest value obtained from the 4.5 kg/da zinc dose (3.01 branches/plant). However, the differences among the mean values of phosphorus and zinc doses for first pod height, plant height, and biological yield were not statistically significant (P>0.05). These findings indicate that the application of phosphorus- and zinc-containing fertilizers has positive effects on certain yield and yield components of red lentil. However, it is suggested that more comprehensive studies should be conducted under different climatic and soil conditions before making definitive recommendations.
