Abstract

This thesis deals with the development of the intellectual and cultural movement in Jerusalem during the Mamluk period between 1250 and 1382, which is an important subject of cultural history. The study explains the role of the Mamluk sultans in the development of the intellectual and cultural movement in Jerusalem. As a matter of fact, they valued science and scholars and built schools and cultural institutions. Thus, Jerusalem has become an attractive place for scholars and students from all over the world. In addition, since the city of Jerusalem had a religious importance, it had many schools and madrasahs. This idea and educational institutions; It was supported by the Mamluk Sultans and philanthropists.

Bu tez, kültür tarihinin önemli bir konusu olan 1250-1382 yılları arasında Memlükler döneminde Kudüs'teki entelektüel ve kültürel hareketin gelişimini ele almaktadır. Çalışma, Kudüs'teki fikri ve kültürel hareketin gelişiminde Memlük sultanlarının rolünü açıklamaktadır. Nitekim ilme ve âlimlere değer verip okul ve kültür kurumları inşa etmişlerdir. Böylelikle Kudüs, dünyanın her yerinden bilim adamları ve öğrenciler için çekici bir yer haline geldi. Ayrıca Kudüs şehri, dini bir öneme sahip olduğundan içinde çok sayıda mektep ve medrese barındırmaktaydı. Bu fikri ve eğitim kurumları ise; Memlük Sultanları ve hayırseverler tarafından destek almıştır.
