Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the aggression levels of students who actively participate in sports at Mardin Kızıltepe Sports High School and those who do not actively participate in sports at Mardin Kızıltepe Mimar Sinan Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in terms of various demographic variables. The study sample consisted of 500 students (250 students who participate in sports and 250 students who do not participate in sports) selected from both schools by simple random method. A demographic information form consisting of 6 questions developed by the researcher was used as the data collection tool. The Buss-Perry aggression scale, adapted into Turkish by Demirtaş Madran (2012), was used to collect data. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS package program. One-way analysis of variance was used for the analyses. According to the findings, it was observed that sports status did not create a significant difference in the sub-dimensions of physical aggression, anger, hostility, and verbal aggression. No significant effects of gender and branch status were found on aggression levels. Significant differences were found in the verbal aggression subscale and the anger subscale based on the variable of undergraduate sports experience among students participating in sports. Significant differences were found in the verbal aggression subscale based on the variable of undergraduate sports experience and the anger subscale based on the variable of year of sports experience among students not participating in sports. In conclusion, it has been demonstrated that aggression levels are not solely dependent on sports participation; they are influenced by multidimensional factors such as the duration and type of sports, the student's social environment, and the school climate. The research largely overlaps with similar studies in the literature, but it also makes a unique contribution with its findings regarding the variables of age, years of sports experience, grade level, and undergraduate sports experience.
