Abstract
This article explores Platonic meditations, in the Phaedo, on the connection between death, philosophy and truth. The Phaedo contains an understanding of philosophy as a struggle against body and in an intimate relation to death, which he calls philosophy as practicing death, or equally, philosophy as a preperation for death. Purification from the body and the senses is done on the basis of practicing death which sets the stage for the emergence of philosophical truth not as an object of detached reflection, but as soul’s own truth given to its highest activity, theoria.
