Abstract
Recently, the concepts of spirituality and spiritual counseling and guidance have started to attract attention in our country and these concepts have been the subject of many studies. Especially in the fields of social sciences such as psychology and psychology of religion, the effects of these concepts and their reflections on the individual and society have started to be researched and discussed more. Studies reveal that the distance between psychology and religion and spirituality has gradually decreased in the past and that the negative perspective on these issues in the scientific world has begun to change. This study is important in terms of contributing to the elimination of deficiencies in the field. The aim of the study is to reveal whether there is a relationship between the spirituality levels of students studying in theology and psychology departments and their attitudes towards spiritual counseling and guidance. Basically, what are the attitudes of theology and psychology students towards spiritual counseling and guidance? To what extent are the students studying in the relevant departments in relation to spirituality? Is there a difference in the attitudes of the departments towards spirituality and MDR? Does gender have an effect on attitudes towards spirituality and MDR? Does spirituality affect the attitude towards MDR? The questions were answered. This research was conducted with the relational survey model, which is a subtype of the general survey model, one of the quantitative research designs. The population of the study consisted of students (N=496) studying at Mardin Artuklu University in the fields of psychology (N=169) and theology (N=327), which are closely related to spiritual counseling. No sample selection method was used and all students were tried to be reached. In this study, socio-demographic data form, 'Spirituality Scale' and 'Attitude Towards Spiritual Counseling Scale' were used as data collection tools. The data were analyzed with t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient and Simple Linear Regression. The most important finding of the study was that spirituality predicted the attitude towards spiritual counseling by 17% in university students. According to the results of the study, there was a moderate and positive significant relationship between students' spirituality and their attitudes towards spiritual counseling. In addition, while there was no difference in the view of spiritual counseling according to the gender and departments of the students; a significant difference was found according to spirituality.
