Abstract
This study aims to reveal the relationship of Halil Gibran with existential themes. In his works, Khalil Gibran discusses existential themes such as human and nature, loneliness, anxiety and hope, freedom, death, spirit, and love. He also foregrounds affection for such existential concepts as madness, art, music and painting, literature and poetry, religion, mother and woman, which are commonly highlighted in existential literature and clearly unveils his views on these issues. According to Gibran, existence exists as a totality and this state of existence is right next to us. Sometimes this is a quality of human nature, such as loneliness; the word hope, which contains the anxiety about the future, can sometimes appear in a mood that envelops the person. What we look at or see is the manifestation of our experiences and existence. This study consists of an introduction and three parts, the first part examines existentialism and Gibran's relation with existential thought, and the second part examines the existential themes that Gibran deals with. In the third part of the study, the elements that deal with practicality in human existence and the line of existence in those elements will be discussed.
