Abstract
This study examines the concept of “mutawatir reports” as addressed by Ẓāhirī scholars within the tradition of Islamic thought. Its main objective is to understand the Ẓāhirī school's approach to mutawatir reports and evaluate its relationship with other Islamic schools of thought. Mutawatir reports have been regarded as the fundamental source of religious knowledge in the Islamic ntellectual tradition. In this context, understanding the attitude of Ẓāhirī scholars towards this concept is important for grasping their position within the general Islamic intellectual tradition and their contributions to ongoing debates. The study utilizes literature review and analysis methods to investigate Ẓāhirī scholars' approach to mutawatir reports. This examination considers the perspective of Ẓāhirī scholars on mutawatir reports, particularly in comparison with other Islamic schools of thought, within specific theoretical frameworks. The findings indicate that Ẓāhirī scholars generally exhibit a similar approach to mutawatir reports as hadith scholars, although there are some differences. Specifically, Ẓāhirī scholars emphasize the necessity for the narrators of mutawatir reports to be just and not adherents of taqlid (imitation) or opinion-based reasoning (ahl al- ra'y), which distinguishes their perspective from other schools. The findings of this study contribute significantly to the understanding of the concept of mutawatir reports in the history of Islamic thought and to determining the stance of the Ẓāhirī school on this matter.
