Abstract
Romanın önemli türlerinden biri olan tarihi roman önce Batı edebiyatında daha sonra 19. yüzyılın ikinci yarısı ile 20. yüzyılın başlarında Arap edebiyatında belirmeye başlamıştır. İlk olarak Mısır’da göçmen yazarlar tarafından kaleme alınan bu tür, Corcȋ Zeydân ile birlikte tanınmış, onun ardından
bütün Arap edebiyatında yayılma göstermiştir.
Mısır’dan sonra tarihi romanın geliştiği ülkelerden biri olan Suriye’de
ise bu türde öne çıkan isim Ma‘rûf Aḥmed el-Arnâ’ûṭ olmuştur. Kaleme aldığı
tarihi romanlarıyla hem kendi dönemine hem de kendinden sonrakilere öncülük etmiştir. Bu bağlamda çalışmamızda hem Batı hem de Arap edebiyatında
tarihi romana genel olarak değindikten sonra Ma‘rûf Aḥmed el-Arnâ’ûṭ’un hayatı, edebi kişiliği, eserleri ve tarihi romanları üzerinde durulacaktır.
The historical novel, one of the major genres of the novel, first began to appear i The historical novel, one of the major genres of the novel, first began to appear in Western literature and later in Arabic literature through the second half of the 19th century and in the begining of the 20th century. This type, which was first penned by immigrant writers in Egypt, was well-known with Corcȋ Zeydan, and then spread throughout the whole Arabic literature. In Syria, which is one of the countries where the historical novel developed after Egypt, Ma‘rûf Aḥmed el-Arnâ’ûṭ is the prominent name in this genre. He has pioneered both his own period and those after himself with the historical novels he has authored. In this context, we will focus on Ma‘rûf Aḥmed el-Arnâ’ûṭ’s life, literary personality, works and historical novels after dealing with the historical novel in both Western and Arabic literature in general.
