Descartes’ın Metodik Şüphesi ve Tanrı’nın Varlığının Kesinliği Fikri Üzerine Bir İncelenme

Abstract

DESCARTES'IN METODİK ŞÜPHESİ VE TANRI'NIN VARLIĞININ KESİNLİĞİ FİKRİ ÜZERİNE BİR İNCELENME Bu tez çalışmasında Descartes'ın şüphe metodu ve bu metotla ulaştığı düşünen ben kavramından hareketle varlığın kaynağı olan Tanrı fikri ele alınacaktır. Descartes'ın kurucularından biri olduğu Rasyonalizm akımı, özetle belirtecek olursak felsefi olarak bilgilere akıl yoluyla ulaşılabileceği iddiasındadır ve Descartes kendi rasyonalizminin merkezine şüpheyi oturtur. Bu bağlamda Descartes, Tanrı bilgisine ulaşırken de aklı referans alma güdüsü taşır. Tez çalışmamızın birinci aşamasında Descartes'ın Tanrı ile ilgili iddialarını şüphe çerçevesinde değerlendirebilmek amacıyla öncelikle Birinci Meditasyon bağlamında şüphe metodu serimlenmiştir. Sonraki aşamada Tanrı'nın varlığına uzanan özne olması sebebiyle İkinci Meditasyon bağlamında düşünen varlık ve kesinliği zihin-beden kavramları ekseninde değerlendirilmiştir. Descartes'ın Tanrı'nın varlığının kesinliğini öne sürdüğü meditasyonu Üçüncü Meditasyon'dur. Descartes, bu meditasyonda Tanrı'ya ilişkin iddialar öne sürerken döneminin özellikleriyle inancının etkilerini silememiş, ön kabul ve bilgilerini tamamen askıya almamış, dolayısıyla şüphe metodunu işletmek konusunda yeterince titiz davranmamıştır. Bu çalışmanın ana amacı da Descartes'ın Üçüncü Meditasyon eksenindeki Tanrı iddialarıyla metodik şüphesinin eşgüdümlü ilerlemeyişini, bu bağlamda mevcut olan çelişkileri ortaya koymaktır. AN ANALYSIS OF DESCARTES' METHODIC DOUBT AND THE IDEA OF THE CERTAINTY OF GOD'S EXISTENCE In this thesis, Descartes's method of doubt and the concept of the thinking self, which he reaches through this method, are examined in relation to the idea of God as the source of existence. Rationalism, of which Descartes is one of the founders, broadly asserts that knowledge can be attained through reason, and Descartes places doubt at the center of his own rationalist framework. In this context, he is motivated by the aim of taking reason as the primary reference point even when seeking knowledge of God. In the first stage of the thesis, in order to evaluate Descartes's claims regarding God within the framework of doubt, the method of doubt is presented with reference to the First Meditation. In the subsequent stage, due to the fact that the subject who leads to the proof of God's existence is the thinking being itself, the certainty of the thinking subject and the concepts of mind and body are examined within the context of the Second Meditation. The meditation in which Descartes asserts the certainty of God's existence is the Third Meditation. However, while advancing his claims concerning God in this meditation, Descartes is unable to eliminate the influence of his religious background and the intellectual conditions of his period; thus, he does not fully suspend his presuppositions and does not apply the method of doubt with sufficient rigor. The main aim of this study is to reveal the inconsistencies between Descartes's claims about God in the Third Meditation and the progression of his methodical doubt, and to analyze the contradictions that arise within this framework.
