Abstract
Throughout history, the presence of various religious and cultural groups in the Derik district of Mardin has enriched its architectural environment. Derik reflects the authentic values of traditional settlement patterns through its castle, streets shaped according to the topography, religious structures, mansions, and houses. However, migration from rural areas to urban centers and large cities, along with the resulting change in the original inhabitants of the buildings, has led to an abandoned historical urban fabric. Although the district is home to many traditional residences, only four of them have been registered and preserved to the present day. This thesis study examines examples of civil architecture in Derik district, Mardin province. As part of this research, conservation projects were prepared for a second-degree registered traditional building located on parcel number 21 in block 561, which is one of the studied heritage houses. Within the scope of the thesis, archival information necessary for transmitting the historical structure to future generations was compiled; architectural survey (rölöve), restitution, and restoration proposal projects were developed, and conservation-repair methods were identified. General information regarding the current preservation status of the traditional residence was provided. Measurements of the building were taken using a laser scanning device, and the architectural survey was drawn up with photographic documentation. Material analysis and damage assessment sheets were prepared to document the building's current state. Based on historical research, oral testimonies from previous users, and traces observed on-site, the original condition of the house was determined, and a restitution project was prepared. In the restoration project, the necessary interventions for the preservation and contemporary use of the building were identified. It was proposed that the cultural heritage building continue to be used as a residence. Through this study, it is aimed to ensure sustainable conservation by maintaining and preserving cultural heritage for future generations.
