Tekfir fikri yalnız bir zihniyet değil, pratikte birçok yansıması olan çok tehlikeli bir mekanizmadır. Bu açıdan tekfirin arka planını ve onun sınırlarını kavramak hayatidir. Kelamcılar arasında tekfire başvuranların olduğu gibi te'vîlin mümkün olduğu durumda ona karşı duranlar da olmuştur. Tekfir etmenin tehlikesine dikkat çeken ve te'vîlin mümkün olduğu yerlerde ondan uzak duran kelamcılardan biri de Seyfeddin Âmidî'dir.
