Doctoral Thesis Somut Olmayan Kültürel Miras Bağlamında Mardin Telkâri Sanatının Sürdürülebilirliği ve Turizm Açısından Değerlendirilmesi(2026) Ataman, Doğan; Harman, SerhatThis study aims to evaluate the sustainability and tourism potential of traditional Mardin telkâri handicrafts, which are considered part of intangible cultural heritage. The study also aims to determine the perceptions and attitudes of tourists towards traditional telkâri handicrafts during their travels and the sustainability of traditional Mardin telkâri, drawing on the perspectives of both tourists and telkâri masters. A mixed method approach was adopted in the study. In line with the aim of the study, data were collected from tourists visiting Mardin through a questionnaire and from traditional Mardin telkâri masters using a semi-structured interview form. While 403 tourists responded to the questionnaire, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 16 telkâri masters. The MAXQDA qualitative research analysis program was used to analyze the findings obtained from the traditional Mardin filigree artisans. The SPSS program, which analyzes quantitative data, was used to analyze the findings obtained from tourists. According to the results of the findings obtained from traditional Mardin filigree art masters, it was found that traditional Mardin filigree handicrafts are facing extinction, interest in the profession is declining, the art is beginning to lose its value, and profit margins are falling. In addition, the result that tourism plays a significant role in the preservation of this art was noteworthy. According to the survey results, it was concluded that tourists' perceptions and attitudes towards traditional Mardin filigree handicrafts are generally high. According to the multiple regression analysis results, which evaluated other survey findings, it was revealed that tourist perceptions significantly affect attitude dimensions, but each dimension is affected by different perception components. When all regression models were evaluated, the Mastery dimension was significant in four different attitude dimensions (promotion/marketing, experience, heritage perception, cultural learning), authenticity was significant in four attitude dimensions (experience, heritage perception, cultural value, preservation), and ease of use was significant in five dimensions (experience, cultural value, cultural learning, preservation, interest close to the threshold), and functional value has a positive effect in some dimensions (preservation, interest) and a negative effect in some dimensions (promotion/marketing, heritage perception). Perceived quality only significantly affects heritage perception. Interaction with artisans did not create a meaningful effect in any attitude dimension. Recommendations were made based on the results obtained from the research findings.
