Article Effect of seasonal variation on lipid and fatty acid profile in muscle tissue of male and female Silurus triostegus(SPRINGER INDIA, 2016) Kacar, Semra; Bashan, Mehmet; Oymak, Seyit AhmetFatty acid (FA) compositions of total lipid, phospholipid (PL) and triacylglycerol (TAG) fractions have been determined in muscle tissues of Silurus triostegus. The distributions of saturated fatty acid (SFA), monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) proportions were found to be different among total lipid, PL and TAG fractions from lipids in muscle tissues of the male and female S. triostegus in all seasons. Triacylglycerol contained a lower proportion of PUFA and a higher proportion of MUFA and SFA than PL while PL contained higher proportion of PUFA than proportion of MUFA and SFA compared to TAG. Triacylglycerol and PL fatty acid compositions in muscle tissues of the male and female fish species were found different. The most abundant fatty acids in the investigated seasons were palmitic acid (C16:0), stearic acid (C18:0), oleic acid (C18:1 n-9), palmitoleic acid (C16:1 n-7) and docosahexaenoic acid (C22:6 n-3). It was shown that the total lipid content and FA compositions in muscle tissues of the male and female S. triostegus were influenced by reproduction period and season.Article Fatty Acid Composition of Total Lipid, Phospholipid and Triacylglycerol in The Muscle and Gonad Tissue of Chondrostoma regium(KAHRAMANMARAS SUTCU IMAM UNIV, 2018) Kacar, Semra; Bashan, Mehmet; Oymak, S. AhmetIn this study, muscle and gonad lipids of a freshwater fish. Chondrostoma regium, were examined via gas chromatography. The major fatty acids were palmitic acid (C16:0) (23.29-26.58%) and stearic acid (C18:0) (9.69-11.33%) in saturated fatty acid (SFA), oleic acid (C18: 1n -9) (16.91-19.96%) and palmitoleic acid (C16: 1n-7) (5.30-8.76%) in monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA), aracidonic acid (C20:4n-6) (4.45-9.32W in n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA), and eicosapentaenoic acid (C20:5n-3, EPA) (3.42-11.56%) docosahexanoic acid (C22:6n-3, DHA) (4.20-13.10%) in n- 3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUPA).Article Seasonal Changes in Fatty Acid Composition of chondrostoma Regium Lipids(inst Animal Reproduction & Food Research Polish Acad Sciences Olsztyn, 2024) Kacar, Semra; Kaya, Hacer Kayhan; Bashan, MehmetThis study examined seasonal variations in fatty acid composition of the phospholipid (PL) fraction, triacylglycerol (TAG) fraction, and phospholipid subclass (phosphatidylcholine, PC; phosphatidylinositol, PI; phosphatidylserine, PS; and phosphatidylethanolamine, PE) of muscle tissue of Chondrostoma regium, a freshwater fish inhabiting the Munzur River (Turkey). It was found that the percentages of total monounsaturated fatty acids, myristic acid (C14:0), palmitoleic acid (C16:1n7), oleic acid (C18:1n9), linoleic acid (C18:2n6), and linolenic acid (C18:3n3) were higher in TAG fraction than in the PL fraction. The ratio of total polyunsaturated fatty acids to total saturated fatty acids was 1.44-1.85, the atherogenicity index ranged from 0.36 to 0.46, while the thrombogenicity index was determined to be between 0.17 and 0.21 in total lipids. The n3/n6 ratio ranged from 6.55 to 10.49. The fatty acid levels of the PL and PL subclasses, TAG, and total lipid were influenced by the season. Throughout the year, palmitic acid (C16:0), C18:1n9, eicosapentaenoic acid (C20:5n3, EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (C22:6n3, DHA) were the most abundant in PC. In PE, the share of n3 fatty acids decreased from November to April, and percentages of EPA, DHA and docosapentaenoic acid (C22:5n3) were high among the n3 fatty acids. The predominant fatty acids in PI were stearic acid (C18:0) and arachidonic acid (C20:4n6), and throughout the year, the share of C18:0 was the highest in November. In the PS fraction, the percentages of C16:1n7 and C18:1n9 were high. In summary, C. regium can be deemed an excellent source of nutritionally valuable lipids and recommended for wider use in the human diet.Article Seasonal Variation on Phospholipid Classes, Triacylglycerols and Atherogenic, Thrombogenic Indices of Male chondrostoma Regium(Japan Oil Chemists Soc, 2024) Kacar, Semra; Kaya, Hacer Kayhan; Bashan, MehmetGas chromatography (GC) was used to determine the fatty acid (FA) compositions of total lipid, phospholipid (PL), phospholipid subclass (phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylinositol (PI), phosphatidylserine (PS), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE)), and TAG (triacylglycerol) fractions in male Chondrostoma regium. Percentages of myristic acid (14:0), palmitoleic acid (16:1n-7), oleic acid (18:1n-9), monounsaturated fatty acid (Sigma MUFA), linoleic acid (18:2n-6) and linolenic acid (18:3n-3) were found to be higher in TAG than the values determined in PL classes. Palmitic acid (16:0), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, 20:5n-3), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 20:6n-3) in the PC fraction; 16:0, 20:5n-3, 22: 6n-3 in PE; 16:0, stearic acid (18:0), arachidonic acid (AA, 20:4n-6), 20:5n-3, 22:6n-3 in PI; and 16:0, 18:0, oleic acid (18:1n-9), 22:6n-3 in PS were found to be dominant. In total lipid, the PUFA/SFA ratio was 1.37-1.83; atherogenicity index (AI) was 0.34-0.47 and thrombogenicity index (TI) was found in the range of 0.18-0.22. The n-3/n-6 ratio, which is an important index for nutritional content, was found to be between 5.15 and 11.07. It was discovered that the FA compositions of male C. regium were affected by the reproductive period and season. These findings suggest that fish oil might be a beneficial dietary source for preserving human health.Article Variations in the fatty acid compositions of the liver and gonad tissue of spiny eel (Mastacembelus mastacembelus) from Ataturk Dam Lake(WALTER DE GRUYTER GMBH, 2017) Kacar, Semra; Bashan, MehmetObjective: The aim of the study was to investigate quantitative and qualitative fatty acid profiles of the gonad and liver tissue of female Mastacembelus mastacembelus (spiny eel). Methods: Total lipids were extracted with 5 mL of chloroform-methanol (2:1 v/v). Samples containing gonad and liver lipid were transesterified with acidified methanol. The fatty acid methyl esters were extracted with hexane. Fatty acids were detected by gas chromatography (GC). Results: The major saturated fatty acids (SFAs) were myristic acid (C14:0), palmitic acid (C16:0) and stearic acid (C18:0) in both gonad and liver tissue. Oleic acid (C18:1 omega-9) and palmitoleic acid (C16:1 omega-7) were the prominent monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA). The dominant polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) were linoleic acid (LA, C18:2 omega-6), arachidonic acid (AA, C20:4 omega-6), docosapentaenoic acid (C22:5 omega-3) and docoesahexaenoic acid (DHA, C22:6 omega-3). The ratio of omega-3/omega-6 ranged from 1.55 to 3.44 and 1.18 to 2.71 in the gonad and liver tissue, respectively. Conclusion: The findings of this study will be useful for understanding the seasonal distribution of fatty acid composition in the liver and gonad of spiny eel.
