Ganglioneuroma is most commonly caused by the posterior mediastinal, retroperitoneal area and adrenal glands. Generally, they do not present any additional signs or symptoms other than mass. Horner’s syndrome may sometimes occur due to the compression of the sympathetic chain. A 41-year-old male patient with a long-standing mass in the lateral compartment of the left neck was admitted to our clinic. The patient was operated, and the pathological result of the mass was reported as ganglioneuroma. We present a rare case of ganglioneuroma in paraphryngeal space by reviewing the current literature. © 2022 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Article Acute Cyanide Intoxication Due To Apricot Seed Ingestion(Soc Argentina Pediatria, 2024) Talay, Mehmet N.; Gungor, Emre; Orhan, OzhanIntroduction : Cyanide poisoning, whether it be accidental or intentional, remains a significant danger to adults and children, especially in societies where agriculture is a primary source of income. We examined the clinical follow-up, complications, and results of cyanide poisoning cases that occurred after eating the pits and seeds of plants containing cyanide glycosides, such as apricot kernels and almonds. Methods : Between 01/01/2017 and 01/08/2022, 14 children aged 1-18 years who were followed up with a prediagnosis of cyanide poisoning in our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) were retrospectively analysed. Results : Eight of the patients followed with a preliminary diagnosis of cyanide poisoning were female and six were male. The most common admission month was July (42.8%) coinciding with the agricultural season. The most common symptoms at presentation were weakness and fatigue (n = 7). In the PICU, 4 patients presented lip cyanosis; 3, altered level of consciousness. Vomiting, seizure, headache, dizziness and palpitatons were less frequent. Four patients were treated with hydroxocobalamin (Cyanokit (R) ) as an antidote due to acidosis in their blood gases. All patients treated for cyanide poisoning were discharged. Conclusions : Cyanide poisoning should be considered in paediatric patients with suspicious findings, sudden loss of consciousness, increased anion gap acidosis and lactic acidosis. The history of eating the seeds of plants such as apricot and almonds should be investigated .Article Acute Cyanide Poisoning Due To Ingestion of Apricot Seeds(Soc Argentina Pediatria, 2024) Talay, Mehmet N.; Gungor, Emre; Orhan, Ozhan[No Abstract Available]Article Adapting To Conflict: Iran's Proxy Warfare Strategy in(Kafkas University Iibf, 2025) Kazdal, MelıhBu çalışma İran’ın, Suriye ve Yemen’de vekalet savaşını nasıl kullandığını incelemektedir. Early diagnosis of retinal diseases is vital to prevent this irreversible damage to the eye. The problem statement of this study can be given as presenting new deep learning based results for detecting these retinal diseases. For this purpose, OCT dataset was used to detect CNV, DME and Drusen patients. This data set, which is frequently used in the literature, consists of CNV, DME, Drusen and Normal retina images. RestNet50, InceptionV3, InceptionResnetV2, MobileNet, DenseNet-201, Xception, EfficentNetB4, EfficentNetB7 and EfficentNetV2S models of the CNN architecture were applied to the data set and the performance results of these models were obtained. Then, in order to increase the classification performance of each of these models, hyperparameter tuning was performed by reducing the learning rate by half in each epoch. Later, a hybrid version of the EfficientNetV2S and Xception convolutional neural network models, the most successful of these hyperparameter-tuned models, was developed. The performance analysis results of our proposed hybrid deep learning model are given by comparing them with traditional deep learning models in the literature. These comparison results show that the classification success of the proposed model is higher than the success of traditional deep learning models in the literature. Thus, the proposed hybrid model can shorten the clinical diagnosis time. In addition, the costs of healthcare services can be reduced by intervening in treatable diseases earlier, instead of more costly interventions in the advanced stages of the disease.Article Citation - Scopus: 2Allium calyanense (Amaryllidaceae), a New Species from Eastern Anatolia, Turkey(Finnish Zoological and Botanical Publishing Board, 2023) Balos, Mehmet Maruf; Geçit, MusaAllium calyanense Balos & Geçit (Amaryllidaceae) is described as a new species from Van Province, eastern Anatolia, Turkey. Hammer-Purgstall’ın İslami dönem Fars şiiri çevirilerinden literal bir ağ yarattığınıiddia eden bu çalışma, onun çevirilerinin Alman edebi oryantalizminin inşa ve kurumsallaşmasında nasıl bir rol oynadığını incelemektedirArticle Altın Nanopartiküllerin Yeşil Sentezi, Karakterizasyonu ve Biyouyumlu Yapılarının Biyomedikal Uygulamalarda (antibakteriyel, Antifungal ve Antikanser) Değerlendirilmesi(Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam Univ Rektorlugu, 2023) Baran, Ayse; Keskin, CumaliGold nanoparticles (AuNPs) stand out due to their low toxicity and high compatibility, and the large and modifiable surface areas they provide. In this study, the leaves of Celtis tournefortii Lam. (CT) were used for the green synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) first time. The size, shape, surface charge, and functionality of the synthesized AuNPs are described in detail. The suggested mechanisms of action on the tested target cells are highlighted. The biological activities (antibacterial, antifungal, and anticancer) of "green" AuNPs and their further biomedical application possibilities are also discussed. Synthesized AuNPs displayed a spherical appearance, surface plasmon resonance band at 553.67 nm wavelength, and surface charge of -16.53 mV. Particle morphology, size, and surface charge were observed to be affected by the leaf extract used in the reduction reaction. FTIR and TGA-DTA data revealed that functional groups from the CT extract participate in the synthesis and stabilization of AuNPs. AuNPs showed antibacterial and antifungal effects on all the strains and yeast tested by microdilution method (MIC). AuNPs showed dose-dependent cytotoxic activity on cancerous cell lines (SKOV-3, CaCo2, and U118). The obtained results highlight a potentially low-cost green synthesis method using CT leaf extract to synthesize AuNPs showing important biological properties.Article Ameloriate Effect of Glucose Monohydrate on Nicotine Sulfate-Induced Toxicity and Teratogenicity in Xenopus Embryos: an Experimental Study(Middle Pomeranian Sci Soc Env Prot, 2023) Emre, Mustafa; Tunc, Erdal; Sertdemir, Yasar; Pekmezekmek, Ayper BogaIt is well documented that nicotine causes low birth weight, preterm birth, pregnancy difficulties, lower fertility, inhibition of spermatogenesis, and decreased steroidogenesis and potassium channels conductance of Xenopus oocytes. Lung cancer is the most well-known adverse impact of nicotine. This work used a 96-hour FETAX test to examine how concurrent administration of glucose monohydrate modifies the effects of exposure to nicotine, nicotine sulfate, and/or glucose on ion channels and membrane potential in Xenopus leavis embryos at an early stage of development. In-vitro fertilised embryos were treated with nicotine and glucose alone or in combination for this aim, and the effects of those treatments were then assessed for potential teratogenic effects. At the conclusion of the FETAX technique, the ratios of healthy, abnormal, and dead embryos were calculated, and the length of embryos in each treatment group was assessed. The ratios of abnormal and dead embryos were considerably higher with nicotine treatment alone compared to controls. Compared to the results of the nicotine-alone treatment group, the ratio of aberrant embryos was marginally reduced by concurrent glucose and nicotine therapy. In contrast, the ratio of normal embryos was raised. Additionally, treatments with glucose, nicotine, and Nic+Glu significantly altered the resting membrane potentials of fertilised oocytes (p < 0.001). Our findings indicated that the simultaneous treatment groups that also received glucose had a protective impact on embryos. Such structured, more sophisticated research is required to confirm these findings.Article Analysis of legionella and Some Chemicals in Water Samples in Mardin Province(Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam Univ Rektorlugu, 2022) Dundar, Abdurrahman; Yildirim, Idris; Dundar, Nagihan DemirIn this study microbiological and chemical analyzes were carried out on water and swab samples taken from two water wells, a water tank and taps of buildings belonging to a public institution in Mardin Province. In these specimens the presence of Legionella and its serogroups as well as the parameters such as chlorine, nitrate, nitrite concentration, pH level and electrical conductivity were analyzed. While Legionella growth was not observed in 25 water samples, L. pneumophila serogroup 1 was detected in 4 of 25 swab culture samples taken from the same places. The pH values of water samples ranged from 7.53 to 8.02 the lowest pH value was observed in well no 1 as 7.53 while the highest was observed in well no 2 as 8.02. The lowest electrical conductivity value was measured at well 2 as 376.44 mu S cm(-1) and the highest was measured as 446.57 mu S/cm from well 1. As a result of the analyzes made in our research nitrite was not detected in any of the water samples. Whilst the nitrate amount was found to be the lowest with 4.30 ppm in the well, the highest with 10.85 ppm in the well 2. The chlorine values in the well 1 and 2 from which water samples were taken and the main tank were measured as 2.21, 2.05 and 2.43 ppm respectively. These values were found to be in the range of 1.68-1.73 ppm in the samples taken from the building taps.Article Citation - WoS: 23Citation - Scopus: 31Analysis of Promising Barley (Hordeum Vulgare L.) Lines Performance by AMMI and GGE Biplot in Multiple Traits and Environment(Aloki Applied Ecological Research and Forensic Inst Ltd, 2019) Tekdal, S.; Dogan, S.; Kendal, E.; Karaman, M.The development of stable and adaptable new cultivars are based only on positive results obtained from the interaction between the genotype and the environment. Therefore, the study aimed to test the stability and general adaptability of promising barley lines in terms of grain yield and traits in multi -environments. For this purpose, twelve barley genotypes were used in the study. The trials were carried out with four replications in a random design at seven environments in years 2012-13 and 2013-14. The superior and stable genotypes were identified with GGE biplot and AMMI (Additive main effects and multiplicative interaction) models. The AMMI analysis showed that the major treatment sum of squares was affected by environments (80.6%), GE (14.0%) and genotypes (5.4%), respectively. On the other hand, the first two principal component axes (PCA 1 and PCA 2) contributed to the complete interaction with 88.1%, whereas, PCA 3 and PCA 4 axes only with 12.0%. The GGE biplot indicated that G4 is adaptable for all environments, while Altikat, G2 and G3 showed specific adaptation to El, E3 and E5, G6, G7 and G8 to E6, respectively. According to both techniques, G2, G3, G6, G7, G8 and Altikat were the best genotypes with high yield, whereas G4 was the best with high yield, and stable and general adaptation. The results of biplot indicated that G4 (ARUPO /K8755//MORA/3/CERISE/SHYRIHALEL I/4/CANELA/5/HART-BAR) was recommended for release and it was released as HEVSEL in 2017. On the other hand; G7 and G6 were protected as genetic material to use as parent in breeding programs for yield stability and quality respectively.Article Analysis of Pyrolysis Liquid From Green Walnut Shells (Juglans Regia L.) and Its Antifungal Activity Against Pathogenic Fungi in Ornamental Plants(Corvinus University of Budapest, 2025) Koç, İ.Pathogenic fungi damage ornamental plant production in both quality and quantity. Organic fungicides are significantly needed for the control of these pathogens. This study was carried out to analyze the content of pyrolysis liquid (PL) obtained from green walnut shells (Juglans regia L.) and to evaluate its antifungal activity against Fusarium oxysporum and Verticillium dahliae. This research was carried out under in vitro conditions with 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% (v/v) PL solution applications in a Randomized Plot Design with four replications. The Poisoned Food Method was used to determine the antifungal activity of PL. As a result of chemical content analysis of PL, 53 components were detected by GC-MC, and the major components were propanoic acid, 2-hydroxy-(CAS) (21.69%), e-2-undecenal (7.11%), and nonanal (5.76%). Twelve components were detected by LC-MS/MS, with vanillic acid (393.28 µg/L), vanillin (334.34 µg/L), and syringic acid (222.80 µg/L) identified as the major components. Total phenolic content (201.76 ± 12.50 mg GAE/mL) and total flavonoid content (114.74 ± 4.50 mg QE/mL) were determined. Therefore, the effect of concentration on colony size varied depending on the species. It was determined that PL showed stronger antifungal activity at higher concentrations, with the highest activity observed at the 25% (v/v) solution. © 2025, ALÖKI Kft., Budapest, Hungary.Article Citation - WoS: 1Analyzing the Environmental Kuznets Curve Hypothesis in Terms of Economic Growth and Different Types of Globalization in Turkiye(Istanbul Univ, 2023) Polat, Melike Atay; Ergun, SuzanEnvironmental pollution has become one of the issues most widely discussed by researchers, scientists, and policy makers these days. In particular, investigating the determinants of CO2 emissions is one of the leading areas of interest for scientists. Meanwhile, globalization causes countries to interact with each other economically, politically, and socially, and this interaction inevitably affects the environment. Therefore, globalization is an important determinant of CO2 emissions. This study aims to evaluate the dynamic effects different types of globalization (economic, social, and political) have on environmental quality in Turkiye with reference to the environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis during the 1970-2018 period using the vector error correction model (VECM). The presence of a long-term relationship among CO2 emissions per capita, GDP per capita, economic globalization, social globalization, and political globalization for Turkiye has been demonstrated using the Johansen cointegration test. According to the results, the VECM Granger causality test has determined a short-term one-way causality nexus from economic globalization to CO2 emissions and from social globalization to political globalization. In terms of long-term estimators, the study has concluded GDP per capita, economic globalization, and social globalization to significantly and positively affect CO2 emissions per capita and the square of GDP per capita and political globalization to negatively affect CO2 emissions per capita at a significant level..Article Anatomy, Pollen And Seed Morphology Of Endemic Species Verbascum Globiferum Hub.-Mor. In the leaves, the main vein is shapped as collateral bundle. Pollen grains are tricolporatetricolpate, oblate-spheroidal, and exine ornamentation is reticulate. Seeds are brown and oblong-ovate to prismatic and alveolate. The seed coat ornamentation is irregular with polygonal cells, with densely, distinct vesicles. The capsules are pubescent, covered with stellate and branched hairy or glandular hairs. The seed displayed that substantial taxonomic understanding can be acquired from examining the seed characteristics of Verbascum, particularly at the species level.Article An Animal Model of Reperfusion in Ischemic Corporal Tissue and the Effect of Sugammadex on Oxidative Injury Parameters(MRE Press, 2025) Kolukcu, Vildan; Yalcin, Kenan; Eroglu, Askin; Gevrek, Fikret; Gurpinar, Ahmet Burak; Unsal, VelidBackground: The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of sugammadex on ischemia-reperfusion injury in corporal tissue. Methods: Eighteen male Wistar Albino strain rats were divided into three groups. Group 1 served as the control group. A priapism model was induced in rats in Group 2 and 3. Rats in Group 3 were additionally administered 4 mg/kg sugammadex intravenously immediately after reperfusion. All rats underwent penectomy for histopathological and biochemical evaluations, and blood samples were collected. Results: In Group 2, total oxidant status (TOS) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were significantly higher compared to other groups (p < 0.001 and p = 0.009, respectively). A substantial reduction in both TOS and MDA levels was found in Group 3 (p <0.001 and p = 0.043, respectively). Group 2 exhibited significantly lower activities of a glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) compared to Group 1 (p = 0.043 and p = 0.024, respectively). In contrast, Group 3 showed significant increases in both antioxidant enzyme activities (p = 0.036 and p = 0.034, respectively). Similarly, the total antioxidant status (TAS) was dramatically higher in Group 3 compared to Group 2 (p < 0.001). Microscopic examinations revealed improvements in vasocongestion, edema, desquamation and inflammation scores in Group 3 compared to Group 2 (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Biochemical and histopathological findings suggest that, sugammadex significantly mitigates oxidative damage parameters in corporal tissue affected by ischemia-reperfusion injury.Article Citation - WoS: 11Citation - Scopus: 11Anoxybacillus sp.
