Article Acute Cyanide Intoxication Due To Apricot Seed Ingestion(Soc Argentina Pediatria, 2024) Talay, Mehmet N.; Gungor, Emre; Orhan, Ozhan; Department of Internal Medical Sciences / Dahili Tıp Bilimleri Bölümü; 10. Faculty of Medicine / Tıp Fakültesi; 01. Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiIntroduction : Cyanide poisoning, whether it be accidental or intentional, remains a significant danger to adults and children, especially in societies where agriculture is a primary source of income. We examined the clinical follow-up, complications, and results of cyanide poisoning cases that occurred after eating the pits and seeds of plants containing cyanide glycosides, such as apricot kernels and almonds. Methods : Between 01/01/2017 and 01/08/2022, 14 children aged 1-18 years who were followed up with a prediagnosis of cyanide poisoning in our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) were retrospectively analysed. Results : Eight of the patients followed with a preliminary diagnosis of cyanide poisoning were female and six were male. The most common admission month was July (42.8%) coinciding with the agricultural season. The most common symptoms at presentation were weakness and fatigue (n = 7). In the PICU, 4 patients presented lip cyanosis; 3, altered level of consciousness. Vomiting, seizure, headache, dizziness and palpitatons were less frequent. Four patients were treated with hydroxocobalamin (Cyanokit (R) ) as an antidote due to acidosis in their blood gases. All patients treated for cyanide poisoning were discharged. Conclusions : Cyanide poisoning should be considered in paediatric patients with suspicious findings, sudden loss of consciousness, increased anion gap acidosis and lactic acidosis. The history of eating the seeds of plants such as apricot and almonds should be investigated .Article Acute Cyanide Poisoning Due To Ingestion of Apricot Seeds(Soc Argentina Pediatria, 2024) Talay, Mehmet N.; Gungor, Emre; Orhan, Ozhan; Department of Internal Medical Sciences / Dahili Tıp Bilimleri Bölümü; 10. Lung cancer is the most well-known adverse impact of nicotine. This work used a 96-hour FETAX test to examine how concurrent administration of glucose monohydrate modifies the effects of exposure to nicotine, nicotine sulfate, and/or glucose on ion channels and membrane potential in Xenopus leavis embryos at an early stage of development. In-vitro fertilised embryos were treated with nicotine and glucose alone or in combination for this aim, and the effects of those treatments were then assessed for potential teratogenic effects. At the conclusion of the FETAX technique, the ratios of healthy, abnormal, and dead embryos were calculated, and the length of embryos in each treatment group was assessed. The ratios of abnormal and dead embryos were considerably higher with nicotine treatment alone compared to controls. Compared to the results of the nicotine-alone treatment group, the ratio of aberrant embryos was marginally reduced by concurrent glucose and nicotine therapy. In contrast, the ratio of normal embryos was raised. Additionally, treatments with glucose, nicotine, and Nic+Glu significantly altered the resting membrane potentials of fertilised oocytes (p < 0.001). Our findings indicated that the simultaneous treatment groups that also received glucose had a protective impact on embryos. Such structured, more sophisticated research is required to confirm these findings.Article Citation - WoS: 23Citation - Scopus: 30Analysis of Promising Barley (Hordeum Vulgare L.) Lines Performance by AMMI and GGE Biplot in Multiple Traits and Environment(Aloki Applied Ecological Research and Forensic Inst Ltd, 2019) Tekdal, S.; Dogan, S.; Kendal, E.; Karaman, M.The development of stable and adaptable new cultivars are based only on positive results obtained from the interaction between the genotype and the environment. Therefore, the study aimed to test the stability and general adaptability of promising barley lines in terms of grain yield and traits in multi -environments. For this purpose, twelve barley genotypes were used in the study. The trials were carried out with four replications in a random design at seven environments in years 2012-13 and 2013-14. The superior and stable genotypes were identified with GGE biplot and AMMI (Additive main effects and multiplicative interaction) models. The AMMI analysis showed that the major treatment sum of squares was affected by environments (80.6%), GE (14.0%) and genotypes (5.4%), respectively. On the other hand, the first two principal component axes (PCA 1 and PCA 2) contributed to the complete interaction with 88.1%, whereas, PCA 3 and PCA 4 axes only with 12.0%. The GGE biplot indicated that G4 is adaptable for all environments, while Altikat, G2 and G3 showed specific adaptation to El, E3 and E5, G6, G7 and G8 to E6, respectively. According to both techniques, G2, G3, G6, G7, G8 and Altikat were the best genotypes with high yield, whereas G4 was the best with high yield, and stable and general adaptation. The results of biplot indicated that G4 (ARUPO /K8755//MORA/3/CERISE/SHYRIHALEL I/4/CANELA/5/HART-BAR) was recommended for release and it was released as HEVSEL in 2017. On the other hand; G7 and G6 were protected as genetic material to use as parent in breeding programs for yield stability and quality respectively.Article Analysis of Pyrolysis Liquid From Green Walnut Shells (Juglans Regia L.) and Its Antifungal Activity Against Pathogenic Fungi in Ornamental Plants(Aloki Applied Ecological Research and Forensic Inst Ltd, 2025) Koc, IPathogenic fungi damage ornamental plant production in both quality and quantity. Organic fungicides are significantly needed for the control of these pathogens. This study was carried out to analyze the content of pyrolysis liquid (PL) obtained from green walnut shells (Juglans regia L.) and to evaluate its antifungal activity against Fusarium oxysporum and Verticillium dahliae. This research was carried out under in vitro conditions with 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% (v/v) PL solution applications in a Randomized Plot Design with four replications. The Poisoned Food Method was used to determine the antifungal activity of PL. As a result of chemical content analysis of PL, 53 components were detected by GC-MC, and the major components were propanoic acid, 2-hydroxy-(CAS) (21.69%), e-2-undecenal (7.11%), and nonanal (5.76%). Twelve components were detected by LC-MS/MS, with vanillic acid (393.28 mu g/L), vanillin (334.34 mu g/L), and syringic acid (222.80 mu g/L) identified as the major components. Total phenolic content (201.76 +/- 12.50 mg GAE/mL) and total flavonoid content (114.74 +/- 4.50 mg QE/mL) were determined. Therefore, the effect of concentration on colony size varied depending on the species. It was determined that PL showed stronger antifungal activity at higher concentrations, with the highest activity observed at the 25% (v/v) solution.Book Review Anatolian Livestock Trade in the Late Ottoman Empire(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2025) Ciftci, Erdal; 17.06. (Scrophulariaceae) In Diyarbakir, Turkey And Their Taxonomic Importance(Bangladesh Assoc Plant Taxonomists, 2023) Kilic, MuratVerbascum globiferum Hub.-Mor. and V. lysiosepalum Hub.-Mor. are endemic to Turkey which is a center of endemism for Verbascum species. This study gives the anatomical, palynological and seed micromorphological features of V. globiferum and V. lysiosepalum which grow in Diyarbakir. The xylem elements occupy a large area in the root cross-sections of the species. In stem cross-sections, the upper part of the epidermis cells is surrounded by a separate cuticle layer and the pith region covers a large area. In the leaves, the main vein is shapped as collateral bundle. Pollen grains are tricolporatetricolpate, oblate-spheroidal, and exine ornamentation is reticulate. Seeds are brown and oblong-ovate to prismatic and alveolate. The seed coat ornamentation is irregular with polygonal cells, with densely, distinct vesicles. The capsules are pubescent, covered with stellate and branched hairy or glandular hairs. The seed displayed that substantial taxonomic understanding can be acquired from examining the seed characteristics of Verbascum, particularly at the species level.Article An Animal Model of Reperfusion in Ischemic Corporal Tissue and the Effect of Sugammadex on Oxidative Injury Parameters(MRE Press, 2025) Kolukcu, Vildan; Yalcin, Kenan; Eroglu, Askin; Gevrek, Fikret; Gurpinar, Ahmet Burak; Unsal, VelidBackground: The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of sugammadex on ischemia-reperfusion injury in corporal tissue. Methods: Eighteen male Wistar Albino strain rats were divided into three groups. Group 1 served as the control group. A priapism model was induced in rats in Group 2 and 3. Rats in Group 3 were additionally administered 4 mg/kg sugammadex intravenously immediately after reperfusion. All rats underwent penectomy for histopathological and biochemical evaluations, and blood samples were collected. Results: In Group 2, total oxidant status (TOS) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were significantly higher compared to other groups (p < 0.001 and p = 0.009, respectively). A substantial reduction in both TOS and MDA levels was found in Group 3 (p <0.001 and p = 0.043, respectively). Group 2 exhibited significantly lower activities of a glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) compared to Group 1 (p = 0.043 and p = 0.024, respectively). In contrast, Group 3 showed significant increases in both antioxidant enzyme activities (p = 0.036 and p = 0.034, respectively). Similarly, the total antioxidant status (TAS) was dramatically higher in Group 3 compared to Group 2 (p < 0.001). Microscopic examinations revealed improvements in vasocongestion, edema, desquamation and inflammation scores in Group 3 compared to Group 2 (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Biochemical and histopathological findings suggest that, sugammadex significantly mitigates oxidative damage parameters in corporal tissue affected by ischemia-reperfusion injury.Article Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 4Animal Remains of Alaybeyi Hoyuk(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2019) Siddiq, Abu Bakar; 02.01. Department of Anthropology / Antropoloji Bölümü; 02. Faculty of Letters / Edebiyat Fakültesi; 01. Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiThis paper presents the zooarchaeological observations on animal remains of Alaybeyi Hoyuk unearthed from 2016 and 2017 excavation sessions. Dated to 4721-4553 cal. BC, Alaybeyi stands so far as the oldest archaeological settlement discovered in northeast Anatolia. Therefore, the faunal assemblage at Alaybeyi offers great opportunity to study the status of animals and their relationships with humans in the largely unexplored Kars-Erzurum plateau covering a period from the Chalcolithic to Late Iron Age. Taxonomic and osteometric analyses show that, like the present day, cattle were dominant over caprines, revealing extensive cattle pastoralism in the region for at least about 7 millennia. While caprines too were significant in the subsistence strategy of local humans, there was not any sign of raising pigs. Significant numbers of wild species including carnivores, aquatic mammals, and rodents, as well as resident and migratory birds, were also hunted by Alaybeyi people. Additionally, horse burials, horse cult, dog burials, and a rich number of dog bones present animals as versatile actors in various ritual and symbolic practices at the site.Article Citation - WoS: 11Citation - Scopus: 11Anoxybacillus sp. SO B1-immobilized Amberlite XAD-16 was developed. The functional groups of Anoxybacillus sp. SO B1 immobilized on Amberlite XAD-16 were characterized in KBr tablets by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometry. Various parameters such as pH, amount of the adsorbent, eluent type and volume, and flow rate of the sample solution were studied. The optimum pH values of quantitative sorption for Cu(II) and Pb(II) were found to be pH 7.0 and 5.0 and Cu(II) and Pb(II) ions could be quantitatively eluted with 5.0ml of 1.0mol L-1 HCI and 10.0ml of 0.25mol L-1 HNO3, respectively. Recoveries of Cu(II) and Pb(II) were found to be 100.9 +/- 1.57% and 100.3 +/- 0.49% (N = 5), the limits of detection of Cu(II) and Pb(II) in the determination by FAAS (3s, N = 10) were found to be 0.8 and 1.6 mu g L-1, respectively. The proposed enrichment method was applied for metal ion determination from water samples such as two parts of Tigris River water in Diyarbakir and Elazig, Lake of Hazar in Elazig, and tap water in Diyarbakir. Furthermore, the accuracy of the proposed method was verified by studying the analytical recovery and by analyzing certified reference material (NCS-DC 73350 leaves of poplar).Article Citation - WoS: 14Application of Ammi Model for Evaulation Spring Barley Genotypes in Multi-Environment Trials(Bangladesh Botanical Soc, 2016) Kendal, Enver; Tekdal, Sertac; 16.02. Department of Turkish language and Literature / Türk Dili ve Edebiyatı Bölümü; 02. Faculty of Letters / Edebiyat Fakültesi; 01. Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 1Assessing the Prognostic Value of Halp Score in Peripheral Artery Disease: Correlation With Lesion Severity and Long-Term Mortality(Sage Publications Ltd, 2025) Evsen, Ali; Aktan, Adem; Kilic, Raif; Yalcin, Abdulaziz; Ozbek, Mehmet; Department of Internal Medical Sciences / Dahili Tıp Bilimleri Bölümü; 10. Faculty of Medicine / Tıp Fakültesi; 01. Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiIntroduction Peripheral artery disease (PAD) poses a growing clinical challenge due to an aging population, despite advances in treatment methods. Various scoring systems have emerged to predict high-risk patients, including the HALP (hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet) score, known for predicting prognosis in cancers and stroke. This study assesses the HALP score's relation to lesion severity and long-term mortality in PAD patients. Methods We retrospectively analyzed 305 symptomatic PAD patients undergoing endovascular intervention. The following formula was used to calculate the HALP score: hemoglobin (g/L) x albumin (g/L) x lymphocyte count (/L) / platelet count (/L). Lesion severity was classified by TASC-II: TASC AB and TASC CD. Mortality data were obtained from hospital and social security records. Results The study involved 305 patients (mean age 64.4 +/- 11.8 years; 72.1% male), divided into survivors (208) and non-survivors (97). ROC analysis identified HALP score as the strongest predictor of long-term mortality (AUC: 0.736; 95% CI: 0.679-0.793; p < .001). HALP score (HR, 0.087; 95% CI, 0.025-1.300; p < .001), age (p < .001), DM (p = .007), and CRP (p = .013) independently predicted mortality. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed higher HALP scores linked to lower long-term mortality (Log-rank: 20.102, p < .001), with an average follow-up of 48 +/- 18 months. Conclusion The HALP score emerged as a robust predictor of PAD prognosis, surpassing individual components and other parameters. Lower HALP scores correlated with more severe lesions and reduced life expectancy.Article Citation - WoS: 9Citation - Scopus: 10Assessment of renal function in obese and overweight children with ngal and kim-1 biomarkers(Nutricion Hospitalaria, 2020) Unsal, Velid; Gül, Ali; Yılmaz, Resul; Özmen, Zeliha Cansel; Demir, Osman; Gümüşer, Rüveyda; 09.03. Department of Nutrition and Dietetics/ Beslenme ve Diyetetik Bölümü; 9. Faculty of Health Sciences / Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi; 01. Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiAim and background:the incidence of obesity has increased among children, and obesity has been considered an independent risk factor for chronic kidney disease. We aimed to determine the degree of kidney function impairment by evaluating urine neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) and kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1) levels. Materials and methods: in total, 15 obese, 26 overweight, and 26 control adolescents aged 10 to 16 years were enrolled into the study. Urine samples were evaluated for NGAL and KIM-1 levels using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits. We investigated the association between obesity and related comorbidities with urinary NGAL and KIM-1 excretion. Results: no significant differences were noted between the obese, overweight, and control groups in urinary NGAL and KIM-1 excretion (p = 0.327 and p = 0.917, respectively). In the obese and overweight groups urinary NGAL levels were 50.39 [30.88-74.22] in females and 26.67 [23.24-45.59] in males (p = 0.013). Also, urinary NGAL levels were increased in obese and overweight adolescents with LDL dyslipidemia at 64.12 [30.98-114.32] as compared to those without LDL dyslipidemia: 39.51 [25.59.56.37] (p = 0.024). Furthermore, a correlation was observed between insulin and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance levels with the NGAL/creatinine ratio in the overweight group (r = 0.515; p = 0.008, and r = 0.483; p = 0.014, respectively). Such correlation was not found in the obese group. Conclusion: the effect of obesity on renal function could not be determined in children. A longer exposure may be required for obesity-induced disruption of renal function in children. Renal function may be disrupted by dyslipidemia in obese adolescents. Furthermore, obesity impaired renal function in female adolescents. The normalization of these urinary markers as related to urine creatinine should be discussed.Article Attitudes of Health Sciences Students in Turkey Towards Individuals With Different Sexual Orientations(Womens Health & Action Research Centre, 2025) Deger, Vasfiye B.; Kacan, Havva; 09.01. Department of Nursing / Hemşirelik Bölümü; 9. Faculty of Health Sciences / Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi; 01. Mardin Artuklu University / Mardin Artuklu ÜniversitesiStudy was planned in a descriptive design to examine how the empathic tendencies of students in the Faculty of Health Sciences affect their attitudes toward individuals who have different sexual orientations and was conducted with seven hundred and six students. The data collected online using the Student Information Form, Empathic Tendency Scale (ETS) and Attitudes Toward Lesbian and Gay Men Scale (ATLGS). Participants' mean scores were 62.98 +/- 18.79 on the ESS and 29.02 +/- 10.75 on the ATLGS. When the correlation between ETS and ATLGS scores was analyzed, a positive and moderate (p<0.05) correlation (r = 0.62) was found between ETS and ATLGS scores. These scores were moderate and the correlation between ETS and ATLGS scores was significant (F=438.585; p<0.05). Empathic disposition explained 38.3% of the total change in ATLGS level (R2=0.383) and increased ATLGS level (B=0.620). It was found that as students' empathic skills improved, their homophobic attitudes decreased.Article Citation - WoS: 10Citation - Scopus: 10Awareness of risk factors and warning signs of stroke among caregivers of patient with and not with stroke: Results from questionnaire(Journal of Pakistan Medical Association, 2019) Usta Yeşilbalkan, Öznur; Karadakovan, Ayfer; Vural Doğru, Birgül; Akman, Perihan; Özel, Ebru; Bozkurt, Yücel; 09.01.
