Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the factors influencing the production decisions and production satisfaction of red lentil producers in Mardin province, with the goal of making recommendations for both businesses and future academic research by examining the factors influencing farmers' lentil production decisions. A face-to-face survey was done with 186 producers, with a proportionate sample size used. The data were examined using descriptive and structural equation modeling (SEM). The data revealed that the average age of the producers was 43.2, the average number of households was 5.7, and 46.8% of them had completed high school. The average size of lentil-producing areas was 51.4 decares. According to the SEM analysis, only the latent variable of financial factors influenced the lentil production decision, and a one-unit increase in the variable increased the lentil production decision intention by 0.89 units, while a one-unit increase in the financial factors latent variable increased production satisfaction by 0.45 units. Of the producers surveyed for the research, 34.4% said they were satisfied with lentil production. The most pressing issues for farmers are labor shortages, land unsuitable for mechanized agriculture, and insufficient subsidies. As a result, it is proposed that sustainability be ensured by implementing long-term agricultural policies that allow producers to continue producing lentils, developing high-quality varieties with high yields suitable for each region, and implementing policies that implement practices that reduce the social and economic development gap between rural and urban areas to the lowest level in the country.
