Abstract
Objective: This study was conducted to determine the effect of nursing students' attitudes towards clinical practice on perceived stress, bio-psycho-social response and coping behaviors and the level of relationship between them. Methods: This study was cross-sectional, descriptive and correlational. The population of the study consisted of nursing students actively studying in two state universities located in the east of Turkey. The study was completed with the participation of 403 nursing students. Data were collected using the Student Identification Form, Attitudes Towards Clinical Practice Scale for Nursing Students (ATCPSNS), Perceived Stress Scale for Nursing Students (PSSNS), Bio-psycho-social Response Scale for Nursing Students (BRSNS) and Stress Coping Behaviors Scale (SCBSNS). Results: In the study, the mean total score of the ATCPSNS was 88.43 (SD=20.18), the mean total score of the PSSNS was 59.55 (SD=21.62), the mean total score of the BRSNS was 36.18 (SD=17.26), and the mean total score of the SCBSNS was 39.30 (SD=9.54). In the study, a negative and moderately significant relationship was found between the total score of attitudes towards clinical practice and the total scores of perceived stress, bio-psycho-psycho-social response and coping behaviors with stress of nursing students. A one-unit increase in the attitude toward clinical practice was found to significantly predict a 0,180-point decrease in the biopsychosocial response score (B =-0.180; p<0.001), indicating a negative linear relationship between the two variables. Conclusion: The study found a negative relationship between nursing students' total score of attitudes towards clinical practice and their perceived stress, bio-psycho-social responses, and coping behavior levels. It was concluded that as the attitude of nursing students towards clinical practices increases, the effect of bio-psycho-social response may decrease. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
