OSMANLI İMPARATORLUĞU’NUN BİRİNCİ DÜNYA SAVAŞI’NDAKİ PROPAGANDA FAALİYETLERİ ÜZERİNE BİR İNCELEME: HARP MECMUASI ÖRNEĞİ

Abstract

İlk sayısı Kasım 1915’te yayımlanan Harp Mecmuası, I. Dünya Savaşı yıllarında Osmanlı propagandasının başlıca araçlarından birisi olmuştur. Osmanlı Devleti’nin görsel propaganda bakımından en başarılı yayını kabul edilen Mecmua, toplam 27 sayı yayımlandıktan sonra Haziran 1918’de kapanmıştır. Bu çalışmada özellikle Osmanlı Devleti’nin en büyük toprak kayıplarını verdiği Sina ve Filistin cephelerinde yaşanan muharebelerle ilgili haberlerin Harp Mecmuası’nda nasıl sunulduğu tematik içerik analizi kullanılarak ortaya konulmuştur. Yapılan analizler neticesinde, Osmanlı Devleti’nin, Harp Mecmuası’nda düşmanını ötekileştiren, onu “canavarmışçasına” gösteren bir söylem yerine Osmanlı askerlerinin kahramanlıklarını ve olumlu yönlerini yücelten bir söylem kullanılmıştır.

The War Journal (Harp Mecmuası), which first issue was published on November 1915, was one of the main propaganda tools of the Ottoman Empire during the World War I. The War Journal, considered as one of the most successful publication of the Empire in terms of its visual propaganda, was closed in June 1918, after publishing 27 issues. This study concentrates especially on the analysis of the Journal’s presentation of the news about the battles on the Hedjaz, Sinai and Palestine frontlines, where the Ottoman Empire lost the most of its territories. The analysis of those news shows, that instead of showing its enemy as a ‘monster’, the dominant discourse chosen by the Journal is mainly about the heroism and the virtues of the Ottoman soldiers.
