Abstract
Bu çalışmanın amacı sosyal sermayenin akademik başarıyla ilişkisinin araştırılmasıdır. Çalışma fenomenolojik yaklaşımı esas alan nitel bir çalışmadır. Çalışma grubu 2018-2019 eğitim-öğretim yılında Mardin'in merkez Artuklu ilçesine bağlı Aziz Sancar Anadolu Lisesi 9, 10, 11 ve 12. sınıf öğrencilerinden gönüllü olarak çalışmaya katılan 45 öğrencidir. Bu öğrencilerin 23'ü kız, 22'si erkektir. Araştırmada öğrencilerin aile ve okul sosyal sermayelerinin akademik başarılarıyla ilişkisini saptamak amacıyla; yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu geliştirilmiştir. Görüşme formu, Coleman ve Byun, Meece, Irvin, Hutchins'in yaptıkları çalışmalardaki anket sorularından yararlanılarak hazırlanmıştır. Görüşme formu görüşülen öğrencilerin kişisel bilgileri, aile sosyal sermayesinin yapısal ve süreç özellikleri, okul sosyal sermayesinin yapısal ve süreç özellikleri ve bilgi ile ilişki sorularından oluşmaktadır. Araştırma bulgularında okulun yüksek bir yapısal sosyal sermayeye sahip olduğu, ayrıca okul ve aile sosyal sermayelerinin akademik başarıyı olumlu etkilediği görülmektedir. Sonuç olarak da öğrenciden kaynaklı faktörlerin yanı sıra okul ve aile sosyal sermayelerinin de öğrenci başarısını etkilediği söylenebilir. Bu araştırmanın sonucuna göre akademik başarının arttırılması için okul idaresi, öğretmenler ve öğrenciler arasında yeteri kadar ve sağlıklı bir iletişim kurulması, okulda yapılan etkinliklere ailelerin aktif katılımının sağlanması, öğrencilerin beklenti, ihtiyaç ve sorunlarının belirlenmesi ve çözümüne yönelik çalışmalar yapılması sağlanabilir.
This study aims to investigate the relationships between social capital and students' academic achievement. It is a qualitative study. 45 volunteer students (23 girls and 22 boys) from 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades, at Aziz Sancar Anatolian High School in the 2018-2019 academic year are taken for the study group. A semi-standardized interview form has been developed to find out the relationships of family social capital and school social capital between students' academic achievement. The interview form has been developed by inspiration from the questionaires prepared by Coleman and Byun, Meece, Irvin, Hutchins. The form is made of the personal characteristics of the students, structural and the process characteristics of family social capital, the structural and process characteristics of school social capital and the students' relations with knowledge. According to the findings of the research, it is seen that the school has a high structural social capital, and family and school social capital positively affect the academic achievement. As a result, it can be said that school and family social capitals as well as student-related factors affect student achievement. According to the results of this research, in order to increase the academic success, a sufficient and healthy communication should be established between the school administration, teachers and students; active participation of the families in the school activities should be encouraged, students' expectations, needs and problems should be sorted out.
