Abstract
This study deals with the Strait of Hormuz issue in the Persian Gulf region through 19th century Ottoman documents. According to Ottoman documents, this strait was the focus of attention of regional and international powers between 1800 and 1914. In this context, this study will analyze the status and importance (geopolitical, strategic and economic) of the Strait of Hormuz through Ottoman documents. In addition, the intensification of competition between colonial powers to capture this strategic strait, which continues to be the most important strategic waterway in the world today, will also be discussed. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important straits connecting East Asia and the European continent. The location of the Strait of Hormuz gives it importance in every aspect (geopolitical, strategic and economic), as this strait constitutes the most important global corridor in global maritime traffic, and therein lies the importance of the issue; The Strait of Hormuz and its importance in international politics will be discussed through Ottoman documents. The subject will also discuss the Ottoman's international policy towards this strait and its conflict with the colonial powers around the strait. The importance of the subject is also understood from the lack of sufficient studies on the Strait of Hormuz issue through Ottoman documents. This research will try to bring a new and different perspective to the Strait of Hormuz issue through Ottoman documents. In order to reach certain facts in our research, we need to follow more than one methodology. Therefore, I will try to follow the analytical historical approach to describe and analyze historical events, but also use the deconstructionist approach to break down and restate events, because research requires us to approach the event in this way. The most important source in this research is Ottoman documents. The methodology of this research combines analytical, deconstructive and documentary dimensions.
