Abstract
The mansions in the garden used as pavilion that have an iwan with the fountain are
called "qasr" in Mardin. Unlike from Mardin's traditional urban fabric, traditional
Mardin qasrs placed in courtyard have never been documented before. The pavilions
that the first owners were noble families, have changed ownership or been
abandoned because of various reasons or been ruined from lack of maintenance.
Some pavilions dated to medieval, the period of Artuklu. All of them are exposed to
conservation problems. Because of life conditions that had changed, and the
problems of conservations, traditional Mardin pavilions are being disappeared. One
of the aims of this study is guiding the interventions about documentation,
conservation, conserving and keeping traditional Mardin pavilions alive.
