Looking at Urban Space Through Emotions: a Sociological Analysis on the Case of Mardin

Abstract

Kent, insanlarla iç içe geçmiş bir bütün olan, yenilenen ve gelişen, iletişim, etkileşim ve duygulanımın çok yoğun olduğu yerlerdir. Bu çalışmada, kent ve duygular arasındaki ilişki ele alınmaktadır. Bu bağlamda, çalışma kent ve duygular arasındaki karşılıklı etkileşime odaklanmaktadır. Araştırmada, kentin duygusal boyutlarının neler olduğu, duyguların kent algısını nasıl şekillendirdiği ve kent-birey ilişkisi bağlamında duyguların rolü gibi temel sorulara yanıt aranmaktadır. Çalışmanın temel amacı, kent mekânı ile duygular arasındaki dinamikleri analiz ederek bireyin yaşam alanını oluşturan kenti duygular bağlamında incelemektir. Kentte yaşayan bireylerin kente duygusal anlam yüklemeleri kentsel mekân tercihinde belirleyici bir rol oynamaktadır. Dolayısıyla kentli bireyler için çoğu kentsel alanın duygusal anlamlarla yoğrulduğu söylenebilir. Araştırma, kentli bireylerin yaşadıkları mekânla ilgili duygu durumlarının analizini yapmayı amaçlamaktadır. Duyguların nasıl şekillendiği, kent ve kimlik etkileşiminin nasıl ortaya çıktığı, insanların yaşadıkları kenti deneyimlerken hangi duygular içinde hareket ettikleri ve bu duyguların neye göre değiştiği incelenmektedir. Ayrıca, en önemli noktalardan biri, bireylerin kentin farklı alanlarında yaşadıkları hislerin ve duyguların zaman içindeki değişimlerinin ele alınması ve bu süreçlerin kent mekânının duygusal boyutlarıyla ilişkisini derinlemesine incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Çalışmada araştırma deseni olarak nitel araştırma yöntemi olan görüşme tekniği kullanılarak veri toplama süreci için yarı yapılandırılmış derinlemesine görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Çalışma, kent ve duygular arasındaki ilişkiyi derinlemesine inceleyerek, kentsel mekânın sadece fiziksel bir yapı olmanın ötesinde, bireylerin duygusal ve bilişsel ihtiyaçlarını karşılayan dinamik bir alan olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Kentsel mekânların zaman içinde bireylerin duygusal durumlarıyla nasıl şekillendiğini ve bu duyguların mekânda nasıl bir değişim gösterdiğini inceleyerek, kentsel alanların duygusal boyutlarının önemi ön plana çıkmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda, kent ve duygular arasındaki etkileşimin bireylerin kentle kurdukları ilişkileri anlamada önemli bir faktör olduğu anlaşılmıştır.The city is a whole intertwined with people, renewing and developing, where communication, interaction and emotion are very intense. The study seeks answers to basic questions such as what are the emotional dimensions of the city, how emotions shape the perception of the city and the role of emotions in the context of the city-individual relationship. The main purpose of the study is to analyze the dynamics between urban space and emotions and to examine the city, which constitutes the living space of the individual, in the context of emotions. The emotional meaning that urban dwellers attribute to the city plays a decisive role in their choice of urban space. Therefore, it can be said that most urban spaces for urban dwellers are characterized by emotional meanings. The research aims to analyze the emotions of urban individuals about the space they live in. It examines how emotions are shaped, how the interaction between the city and identity emerges, which emotions people act in while experiencing the city they live in and how these emotions change. In addition, one of the most important points is to examine the changes in the feelings and emotions experienced by individuals in different areas of the city over time and to examine the relationship of these processes with the emotional dimensions of the urban space in depth. In the study, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted for the data collection process using the interview technique, which is a qualitative research method, as the research design. By examining the relationship between the city and emotions in depth, the study reveals that urban space is not only a physical structure, but also a dynamic space that meets the emotional and cognitive needs of individuals. By examining how urban spaces are shaped by the emotional states of individuals over time and how these emotions change in space, the importance of the emotional dimensions of urban spaces has come to the fore. As a result of the research, it is understood that the interaction between the city and emotions is a critical factor in understanding individuals' relationships with the city.
