Abstract
Türkiye’nin sınırları içerisinde yer alan Cizre, hem bulunduğu konum ve coğrafi özellikleri hem de ilmi ve kültürel açıdan İslam medeniyetinin önemli şehirlerinden biridir. Cezire bölgesi Müslümanlar tarafından fethedildikten sonra, şimdiki yerinde kurulan şehir, kısa sürede büyük bir gelişme göstererek siyasi, ticari, ilmi ve kültürel açıdan önemli bir merkez haline geldi. Halkın katkıları ve yöneticilerin destekleriyle şehirde büyük alimlerin yetiştiği medreseler kuruldu. Bu alimlerden bazılarının etkileri bugün dahi devam etmesi şehrin İslam tarih ve medeniyetindeki önemini göstermektedir. Bu makalede Cizre’de yetişmiş ortaçağ İslam dünyasının en büyük tarihçilerinden biri olan İzzeddin İbnü’l-Esîr el-Cezeri’nin hayatı ve eserleri, bölge ve İslam medeniyetine katkıları bağlamında ele alınacaktır. Bu çerçevede önce Cizre’nin İslam medeniyeti açısından önemi üzerinde durulacak, daha sonra buradaki medreselerde yetişmiş İbnü’l-Esîr’in hayatı siyasi süreç göz önünde bulundurularak incelenecek, en sonda da müellifin eserleri üzerinden İslam Medeniyetine yaptıkları katkılar tasvir edilecektir.
Jizra or Jazirat Ibn 'Umar is located within the borders of Turkey and is one of the important cities of Muslim civilisation in terms of both its location and geographical features as well as its scientific and cultural aspects. The region of Jizra after being conquered by Muslims, a city was established in its present location and it has become a major political, commercial, scientific and cultural centre in a brief period of time. Many schools or madrasas were established with the support and contributions of its people and rulers. Many scholars attained their education were trained in these madrasas. The contributions of some of these scholars continues to impact the world to this day. This reveals the importance of this city in Muslim history and its civilisation. This article, will examine the life and works of Izz al-Din Ibn al-Athir al-Jazri, one of the greatest historians of the medieval Muslim World, in the context of his contributions to the region and Muslim civilisation. Within this framework, the article will first focus on the importance of Jizra in terms of Muslim civilisation. Then it will focus on the life of a scholar who was educated and trained in the city of Jizra, Ibn al- Athir, this will be examined in light of the political process. Finally, the paper will illustrate the author’s contributions to Muslim civilisation through his works.
