Seyyah ve coğrafyacıların gözüyle Ortaçağda Cizre ve çevresi

Abstract

Ülkemizin Güneydoğu Anadolu Bölgesinde bulunan Cizre, Şırnak iline bağlı kadim bir ilçedir. Dicle ve Fırat nehirlerinin arasında kalan topraklar olarak adlandırılan el-Cezîre bölgesinin yukarı kısmında (Yukarı Mezopotamya) bulunur. Tarih boyunca ve özellikle ortaçağda birçok seyyah ve coğrafyacının gözlemine göre Cizre ve çevresi her açıdan önem teşkil etmekteydi. Nitekim söz konusu dönemde Cizre'ye uğramış seyyah ve coğrafyacıların şehir hakkındaki gözlemleri olumlu olmuş, güzel ve verimli topraklara sahip olmasından övgü ile söz edilmiştir. Bu yerlerin doğal koşulları göz önünde bulundurulduğunda ticaret yollarının kesiştiği noktada bulunması hasebiyle farklı hadiseleri de beraberinde getirmiş ve muhtelif devletlerin cazibe merkezi haline gelmiştir. Tarih boyunca, bölgede hâkimiyeti sağlayan devletlerin egemenlik mücadelesine sahne olmuş ve idari anlamda bu devletlerin yönetimi altına girmiştir. Müslümanların bölgeye gelmesiyle birlikte, Hamdaniler, Mervaniler, Selçuklular, Zengiler, Bedreddin Lü'lü, Moğollar, Karakoyunlular, Timur, Akkoyunlu ve Osmanlı devletlerinin hâkimiyetleri altına girmiştir. Bundan dolayı Cizre'yi ele alırken komşu şehirlerde ölçüt alınmıştır. Ayrıca şehirler hakkındaki bilgilerin aktarılması da seyyah ve coğrafyacıların gözlemleriyle mümkün olmuştur. Genel anlamda seyyah ve coğrafi kaynaklarda, Cizre'nin ekonomisinden, coğrafyasından ve sosyal yapısından bahsedilmiştir. Sonuç olarak eserlerdeki bilgiler ışığında, Cizre'nin özellikle ticari ve askeri anlamda önemli bir şehir olarak görüldüğü sonucuna varılmıştır. Ortaçağ'da el-Cezîre Bölgesinde Musul'a bağlı Cizre ve çevresinin siyasi-sosyal, ekonomik ve fiziki durumu hakkında bilgiler verilmesi konunun ana temasını oluşturmuştur.

Cizre, located in the Southeastern Anatolia Region of our country, is an ancient district of Şırnak province. It is located in the upper part of the al-Jazeera region (Upper Mesopotamia), which is called the lands between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. According to the observations of many travelers and geographers throughout history and especially in the Middle Ages, Cizre and its surroundings were important in every respect. The observations of the travelers and geographers who visited Cizre during the said period were positive, and it was praised for its beautiful and fertile lands. Considering the natural conditions of these places, it has brought about different events due to the fact that it is located at the intersection point of trade routes and has become a center of attraction for various states. Throughout history, it has been the scene of the struggle for sovereignty of the states that dominate the region and has come under the sovereignty of these states in an administrative sense. With the arrival of the Muslims in the region, it came under the dominance of the Hamdanids, Mervanis, Seljuks, Zengids, Bedreddin Lü'lu, Mongols, Karakoyunlus, Timur, Akkoyunlu and Ottoman states. In addition to this, cities such as Mosul, Nusaybin and Mardin in its vicinity also constituted important settlements of the region. Therefore, when considering Cizre, neighboring cities were also taken as criteria. In addition, the transfer of information about cities was made possible by the observations of travelers and geographers. In general, the economy, geography and social structure of Cizre are mentioned in the traveler and geographical sources. As a result, in the light of the information in the works, it has been concluded that Cizre is seen as an important city, especially in commercial and military terms. The main theme of the topic is to provide information about the political, social, economic and physical situation of Cizre and its environs connected to Mosul in the al-Jazeera Region in the Middle Ages.
