Conference Object Abnormal Heart Sound Detection Using Ensemble Classifiers(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2019) Zan, H.; Yildiz, A.; Zan, HasanPhonocardiogram is used for ambulatory diagnostic to assess health status of heart and detect cardiovascular disease. The goal of this study is to develop automatic classification method of PCG recordings collected from different databases and recorded in a different way. For this purpose, after various time and frequency domain features are extracted from PCG recordings obtained from two databases, recordings are subjected to pre-classification in order determine which database they are obtained from. Before final classification, various time, frequency and time-frequency domain features of classified recordings are extracted. These features are fed into four different classification ensembles trained with training dataset. With final decision rule, proposed algorithm achieved an accuracy of 98.9%, a sensitivity of 93.75% and a specify of 99.5%. © 2018 IEEE.Article Activity of nanosized copper-boron alloys against Phytophthora species(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2023) Derviş, Sibel; Türkkan, Muharrem; İlhan, Hasan; Şimşek, Tuncay; Güler, Ömer; Derviş, SibelThis study aimed to evaluate the antifungal activity of copper-boron (Cu-B) nanoalloys against a range of Phytophthora species, including P. capsici, P. citrophthora, P. palmivora, P. cinnamomi, P. nicotianae, P. cactorum, P. plurivora, P. inundata, and P. megasperma. The nanoalloys were synthesized via mechanical alloying under an argon atmosphere, resulting in the formation of nanocrystalline Cu-B nanoalloys with irregular morphology and particle sizes ranging from 50 to 240 nm. At a concentration of 250 µg mL−1, the Cu-B nanoalloys demonstrated complete inhibition of mycelial growth, sporangium production, and zoospore germination in all tested Phytophthora species. The EC50 values for mycelial growth ranged from 28.02 to 120.17 µg mL−1, while for sporangium production and zoospore germination, they were below 10 µg mL−1. Furthermore, the nanoalloys exhibited fungicidal activity against specific Phytophthora species, such as P. capsici, P. citrophthora, P. inundata, and P. megasperma, at concentrations of 100, 250, 250, and 250 µg mL−1, respectively. Notably, the Cu-B nanoalloys displayed significant protective and curative effects on tuber rot severity in P. nicotianae-inoculated potatoes, resulting in reductions of 94.13% and 92.61% compared to the control, respectively, at a concentration of 10 µg mL−1 (P < 0.05). These findings highlight the potential of Cu-B nanoalloys as a promising fungicide for the management of plant diseases caused by Phytophthora spp.Article Alternaria alternata causing inner black rot of lemon (Citrus limon) fruits in Turkey: Genetic diversity and characterisation(ScienceDirect, 2023) Derviş, Sibel; Derviş, Sibel; Fatih Tekin, Tacettin Utku Günen, Göksel ÖzerThe market sales of symptomless lemons in 2020 revealed a persistent and severe internal black rot with browning of the membrane wall and juice sac. To investigate the causal agent, externally symptom-free lemons from Mediterranean locations were sampled from supermarkets, local markets, and bazaars in three southeastern Turkish provinces. Internal black rot symptoms were observed in 13.69% of the 1300 externally symptomless fruits, and Alternaria was isolated from 96.63% of those exhibiting these symptoms. Morphological analysis confirmed the identity of Alternaria alternata in 26 representative isolates collected from various markets and bazaars. To examine genetic diversity or polymorphisms, start codon targeted (SCoT) markers were used. Species identification was based on the sequences of translation elongation factor 1-alpha (TEF 1-α), RNA polymerase second largest subunit (RPB2), and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH). SCoT 29 exhibited the highest amount of polymorphic amplicons, with 18 polymorphic bands scored when compared to the other six scoreable markers. The 26 representative isolates from various markets and bazaars were divided into four clades by SCoT 29. However, multilocus sequence analyses confirmed the identification of a single species, A. alternata. In terms of virulence and the impact of temperature on growth, representative isolates from four SCoT clusters were evaluated. Data suggests that SCoT markers can be used to evaluate virulence-based polymorphism in A. alternata; nonetheless, all clades showed comparable temperature responses, with 25 ◦C being the optimum. There was also no association between individual morphotypes and SCoT clade membership. Due to the lack of obvious signs on lemon fruits, producers, merchants, and consumers are unable to identify black rot, and the widespread presence of A. alternata in lemons may pose a significant risk that must be avoided at all costs.Article Amino Acid Profile, Nutrients Content and Yield of Chickpea (Cicer Arietinum L.) To assess the effectiveness of these MPPT approaches, a simulation study was conducted using four SHARP NDQ295 model photovoltaic panels, configured as two panels in series and two in parallel. Both the P&O and ASFOCV MPPT methods were evaluated under various scenarios of radiation levels and temperature changes. The results unequivocally demonstrate the superior performance of the ASFOCV MPPT method over the P&O MPPT method. The ASFOCV method notably enhanced converter output power by up to 5% when compared to the P&O method, leading to more efficient energy production. Furthermore, the ASFOCV method exhibited rapid stabilization of output voltage during abrupt weather changes, outperforming the P&O method in this regard. This study underscores the potential of the ASFOCV MPPT method to enhance the efficiency of solar energy systems and its adaptability to fluctuating environmental conditions. Future research endeavors could focus on mitigating the ASFOCV method’s sensitivity to temperature variations and conducting real-world applications to further investigate its performance under practical circumstances.Article Anoxybacillus sp. Murat; Çelik, Mustafa; Uçar, Edip; Güneşaçar, RamazanLeptin is a protein hormone which plays a critical role in the regulation of both body-weight through reducing food intake and stimulating energy expenditure. Several polymorphisms in leptin gene (LEP), which encodes for leptin, have been described. However, its association with obesity is still controversial. Therefore, in the present study, we aimed to investigate whether LEP c.-2548 G > A polymorphism was associated with serum leptin levels, lipid parameters, and body mass index in Turkish obese patients. Forty-seven obese patients and 48 healthy individuals were included in the study. Blood samples were collected for DNA extraction. LEP c.-2548 G > A polymorphism were detected using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism technique. Serum leptin levels and lipid parameters were measured by ELISA and enzyme colorimetric assay techniques, respectively. GA or AA genotypes and A allele carrier frequencies of the c.-2548 G > A polymorphism in the LEP were higher in obese (38.3, 34.0 and 72.3 %) when compared with controls (14.6, 12.5, and 27.1 %; p = 0.011, 0.016, and 0.002, respectively). On the other hand, AA or AG genotypes were also related to increased serum leptin levels (p < 0.001) and body mass index (p < 0.0001). All these consequences showed that LEP -2548 AA or AG genotypes are important predictors for increased levels of leptin and BMI in Turkish obese patients and it may be a useful marker for obesity risk in our population.Conference Object Balina Optimizasyon Algoritması Kullanılarak Türkiye’nin Uzun Vadeli Enerji Tüketimi Tahmini(IEEE Xplore, 2021) Babaoğlu, Merve; Haznedar, BülentEnerji, ülkelerin sürdürülebilir kalkınmaları için en önemli konu başlıklarından biridir. Şerif; Belyankova, Yelizaveta; Tursynbek, Saniya; Dauletbakov, Anuar; Sarah, Bayazit; Zolotareva, Darya; Yerassyl, Kamshyger; Dündar, AbdurahmanSynthesis of two phosphinite ligands based on β-amino alcohols, in high yields has been demonstrated. When we treated [Ru(arene)(μ-Cl)Cl]2 {arene:p-cymene,benzene} with chelating phosphinite ligands, we obtained neutral Ru(II)-complexes possessing the general formula [Ru(arene)phosphiniteCl2]. The structure of the ligands and complexes was confirmed using analytical and spectroscopic techniques. The quantum chemical calculations were carried out for the ruthenium complexes at the DFT/CAM-B3LYP level of theory in gas phase. The phosphinite complexes were subjected to cyclic voltammetry studies in order to determine the energies of HOMO and LUMO levels and to estimate their electrochemical and some electronic properties. Organic complex-based memory substrates were immobilized using TiO2-modified ITO electrodes, and the memory functions of phosphinite-based organic complexes were verified by chronoamperometry (CA) and open-circuit potential amperometry (OCPA). In the present study, the antioxidant potentials of ruthenium-based p-cymene and benzene complexes through DPPH radical scavenging, metal chelating, and reducing power activities were also determined. In addition, DNA binding abilities and antimicrobial activities of these complexes against pathogenic bacteria were studied. Finally, the ruthenium complex, (2S)-1-{[(2S)-2-[(diphenylphosphanyl)oxy]propyl][(1R)-1-phenylethyl]amino}propan-2-yldiphenyl phosphinitobis[dichloro(η6-benzene)ruthenium(II)] also catalyzed asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of acetophenone with high conversion (up to 99%) and good enantioselectivity (ee up to 89 %), in the existence of formic acid and triethylamine in dichloromethane medium under air atmosphere.Article Biosorption of chlorophenoxy acid herbicides from aqueous solution by using low-cost agricultural wastes(TAYLOR & FRANCIS INC, 2015) Dündar, Abdurrahman; Celik, K. Serdar; Ozdemir, Sadin; Dundar, Abdurrahman; Kilinc, ErsinThe potential biosorption abilities of apple shell (AS), orange peel (OP), banana peel (BP), and millet waste (MW) as a bio-waste material to remove 2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid (2,4-D), 2,4-dichlorophenoxy propanoic acid (2,4-DP), and 2,4-dichlorophenoxy butyric acid (2,4-DB) from aqueous solution were investigated in batch condition. Optimum biosorption conditions were determined as a function of contact time, pH of the solution, amount of biomass, and initial pesticide concentrations. The concentrations of the pesticides in the remaining solutions were simultaneously determined by high performance thin layer chromatography. Langmuir and Freundlich models were applied to describe the biosorption isotherm of the pesticides by agricultural wastes. The experimental adsorption data were fitted to Langmuir adsorption models (r(2)>0.99). It was found that adsorption of 2,4-DP was higher for all biosorbent. The highest maximum adsorption capacities of 2,4-DP were found as 40.08, 22.71, 33.26, and 45.45mg/g, respectively, for AS, OP, BP, and MW. Maximum adsorption capacity was obtained for 2,4-D as OP>MW>BP>AS, 2,4-DP as MW>AS>BP>OP, and 2,4-DB as OP>AS>BP>MW. From the results, it can be said that MW was an effective biosorbent for removal of 2,4-DP and OP was an effective biosorbent for removal of 2,4-D and 2,4-DB through the studied pesticides. Optimum biosorption conditions were determined as 60min of contact time, 100mg of biomass, AS at pH 6.0, OP at pH 6.0, MW at pH 7.0, and BP at pH 7.0. FT-IR was employed to understand the surface properties of biosorbents. According to the results, agricultural wastes have high adsorption capacity.Article Boletus edulis loaded with gamma-Fe2O3 nanoparticles as a magnetic sorbent for preconcentration of Co(II) and Sn(II) prior to their determination by ICP-OES(SPRINGER WIEN, 2018) Kılınç, Ersin; Yalçın, M. It was also successfully applied to the quantification of Co(II) and Sn(II) in spiked environmental and food samples. Article Canker and leaf scorch on olive (Olea europaea L.) caused by Neoscytalidium dimidiatum in Turkey(ScienceDirect, 2022) Derviş, Sibel; Özer, Göksel; Türkölmez, Şahimerdan; Derviş, SibelIn a recent survey of olive groves in the Southeast Anatolia Region of Turkey, a new and serious decline of olive trees, beginning with foliar scorching and then dieback of twigs, branches, and even whole trees, was observed for the first time. In more advanced stages of the disease, necrosis and cankers were observed on the bark of the trunk, branches, and twigs. Isolations from symptomatic tissues from multiple cultivars in diverse locations yielded Neoscytalidium dimidiatum, which were identified using ITS, tef1, and tub2 loci of genomic DNA, in combination with morphological data. In vitro studies showed that conidial germination, hyphal growth, and pycnidia formation of the pathogen were positively correlated with elevated temperatures. Wild type olive “Delice”, “Edincik Su”, and “Memecik” seemed like the most resistant cultivars on which disease severity values were the lowest among 14 screened olive cultivars in two experimental orchards under natural conditions. Pathogenicity tests showed that “Gemlik” was the most susceptible cultivar showing the largest cankers and extensive scorch lesions. Isolates caused canker but not leaf scorch on O. europaea cultivars “Arbequina” “Halhalı”, “Manzanilla”, “Nizip Yağlık”, and “Saurani”. Neoscytalidium isolates are likely to have a negative impact on the health of diverse olive groves, which are primarily confined to Mediterranean-type climatic regions. These findings suggest an increased risk of infection in environments with increasing temperatures, as is common in the Southeast Anatolia Region of Turkey. The information gathered in this study will be used to examine the disease's epidemiology and establish disease control initiatives. This is also the first report of N. dimidiatum infecting O. europaea in the world.Article Characterization and pathogenicity of Pythium-like species associated with root and collar rot of kiwifruit in Turkey(In Plant Disease, 2021) Derviş, Sibel; Özer, Göksel; Karaca, Gürsel; Erper, İsmail; Derviş, SibelDuring the period of June to October in 2018, a widespread decline was observed on kiwifruit vines in the vineyards located in Altınordu, Fatsa, and Perşembe districts of Ordu province. The symptoms were associated with reddish-brown rots expanding from the root to the collar with sparse off-color foliage. Based on the percentage of the total infected samples across 18 vineyards, the most common oomycete species were Globisporangium intermedium (37.1%), Phytopythium vexans (34.3%), G. sylvaticum (14.3%), G. heterothallicum (11.4%), and Pythium dissotocum (2.9%). The morphological identification of isolates was confirmed based on partial DNA sequences containing the nuclear rDNA internal transcribed spacer region (rDNA ITS) and the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit II (coxII) gene. The optimum growth temperature and the optimum pH of 5 species ranged from 22.98 to 28.25°C and 5.67 to 8.51, respectively. Pathogenicity tests on the seedlings of kiwifruit cv. Hayward revealed significant differences in virulence among isolates. Phytopythium vexans and G. sylvaticum isolates caused severe root and collar rot resulting in seedling death, while G. heterothallicum and G. intermedium isolates had relatively lower virulence. All Globisporangium spp. and P. vexans isolates significantly decreased plant growth parameters (plant height, shoot and root dry weights and root length); however, P. dissotocum caused very mild symptoms and did not affect these parameters of growth. To our knowledge, this is the first study reporting G. sylvaticum, G. heterothallicum, and G. intermedium causing root and collar rot on kiwifruit not only in Turkey but also in the world.Article The characterization of phenolic compounds via LC-ESI-MS/MS, antioxidant, enzyme inhibitory activities of Salvia absconditiflora, Salvia sclarea, and Salvia palaestina: A comparative analysis(ScienceDirect, 2022) İzgi, Mehmet Necat; İzgi, Mehmet Necat; Cinar, Ahsen Sevda; Zengin, Gökhan; Yılmaz, Mustafa AbdullahAbstract Salvia L. genus, one of the medicinal and aromatic plants belonging to the Lamiaceae family, is represented by many endemic species in temperate regions worldwide. The Salvia species have plenty of usages in traditional medicine, important pharmacological effects and economic value. In this context, this study was conducted to evaluate the chemical profile and potential bioactivity of ethyl acetate extracts from 3 different Salvia species; Salvia absconditiflora (Salvia cryptantha- an endemic species), S. sclarea and S. palaestina collected from different localities in Anatolia. Total phenolic-flavonoid contents, antioxidant properties and enzyme inhibition experiments were investigated in tested Salvia species. The phenolic profiles were also determined by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). The analysis revealed the presence of phenolic compounds in ethyl acetate extracts such as cynaroside, rosmarinic acid, cosmosiin, luteolin, apigenin and acacetin. The highest level of phenolic components was detected in S. absconditiflora with 74.16 mg GAE/g. The best radical scavenging and reducing abilities were found in S. absconditiflora (DPPH: 251.39 mg TE/g; ABTS: 340.16 mg TE/g; CUPRAC: 496.20 mg TE/g; FRAP: 322.94 mg TE/g). Moreover, the inhibition of AChE, BChE, and α-amylase has also been studied. The most potent AChE inhibitory ability was recorded in S. sclarea (4.00 mg GALAE/g), followed by S. palaestina (3.38 mg GALAE/g) and S. absconditiflora (3.01 mg GALAE/g). The extracts exhibited similar amylase inhibitory effects. These results reveal that Salvia species [S. absconditiflora (S. cryptantha), S. sclarea and S. palaestina] confirming their potential can be rich sources of promising bioactive compounds as a starting point for further analysis. In addition, it is thought that this study may be the new report for the construction of helpful databases in terms of shedding light on future research and researchers with the valuable information obtained about these economically important Salvia species.Article A Class Activation Map-Based Interpretable Transfer Learning Model for Automated Detection of ADHD from fMRI Data(Sage Journals, 2022) Uyulan, Caglar; Erguzel, Turker Tekin; Türk, Ömer; Farhad, Shams; Metin, Bariş; Tarhan, Nevzat; Türk, ÖmerAutomatic detection of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) based on the functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) through Deep Learning (DL) is becoming a quite useful methodology due to the curse of-dimensionality problem of the data is solved. Also, this method proposes an invasive and robust solution to the variances in data acquisition and class distribution imbalances. In this paper, a transfer learning approach, specifically ResNet-50 type pre-trained 2D-Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) was used to automatically classify ADHD and healthy children. The results demonstrated that ResNet-50 architecture with 10-k cross-validation (CV) achieves an overall classification accuracy of 93.45%. The interpretation of the results was done via the Class Activation Map (CAM) analysis which showed that children with ADHD differed from controls in a wide range of brain areas including frontal, parietal and temporal lobes.Article Classification and analysis of epileptic EEG recordings using convolutional neural network and class activation mapping(2021) Yildiz, Abdulnasir; Zan, Hasan; Said, Sherif; Zan, HasanElectrical bio-signals have the potential to be used in different applications due to their hidden nature and their ability to facilitate liveness detection. This paper investigates the feasibility of using the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to classify and analyze electroencephalogram (EEG) data with their time-frequency representations and class activation mapping (CAM) to detect epilepsy disease. Several types of pre-trained CNNs are employed for a multi-class classification task (AlexNet, GoogLeNet, ResNet-18, and ResNet-50) and their results are compared. Also, a novel convolutional neural network architecture comprised of two horizontally concatenated GoogLeNets is proposed with two inputs scalograms and spectrogram of the eplictic EEG signal. Four segment lengths (4097, 2048, 1024, and 512 sampling points) with three time-frequency representations (short-time Fourier, Wavelet, and Hilbert-Huang transform) are statistically evaluated. The dataset used in this research is collected at the University of Bonn. The dataset is reorganized as normal, interictal, and ictal. The maximum achieved accuracies for 4097, 2048, 1024, and 512 sampling points are 100 %, 100 %, 100 %, and 99.5 % respectively. The CAM method is used to analyze discriminative regions of time-frequency representations of EEG segments and networks' decisions. This method showed CNN models used different time and frequency regions of input images for each class with correct and incorrect predictions.
