Therefore, scientists and engineers study the effective use of energy. In the present study, a thermodynamic and exergoeconomic analysis was performed in a thermal power plant in Turkey. The study involved determining the thermodynamic properties of 27 node points in a thermal power plant unit, and this was followed by calculating energy and exergy values of every node. Mean exergy costs were calculated by establishing energy and exergy balances of the equipment with respect to the calculated results. Subsequently, lost and damaged energies and exergies were calculated, and exergoeconomic factors were determined. The equipments were compared with each other on a graph based on the obtained results. The maximum rate of exergy loss and cost of exergy destruction corresponded to 79.5% and 886,66 $/h, respectively. The maximum exergy losses in a thermal power plant occurred in the boiler, turbine groups, condenser, heating group, pumps, and auxiliary groups. The highest and second highest law efficiencies of the studied thermal power plant corresponded to 32.3% and 28.5%, respectively. The study also involved presenting suggestions for improvement. Additionally, exergoeconomic analyses were conducted while considering the power plants' investment and equipment maintenance costs. It is expected that the calculation method and the obtained results can be applied to other thermal power plants.Article The Approach of The Shi'i Exegetists to The Instances of 'Umar's Muwafaqat(CUMHURIYET UNIV, FAC THEOLOGY, 2018) Ensari, AbdurrahmanKnowing the occasions related to the revelation of the Qur'anic verses is one of the factors contributing to its correct understanding. Since the examples named as "Umar's Muwafaqat" (corcurrences of Umar's perception with certain divine revelatio) is related to the occasion of Qur'an's revelation, they also contribute to the understanding of the related verses. 'Umar's Muwafaqat instances refers here to the subject mentioned after his expression of "I agreed with my Lord in three things." His agreement with His Lord is that he delivered an anticipating opinion, appropriate to God's provision. This is considered to be of the great virtues of 'Umar and of the most important sections of his life. Some narrated reports of 'Umar's Muwafaqat shows that there were many occasions of agreement. Of these instances, the verses that come upon his request that Abraham's Maqam is taken as a place of prayer and the Prophet's wives to veil as well as his statement to the Prophet's wives that God will grant him better wives than them if they give trouble to the Prophet. There have been conducted a number of studies on the subject of 'Umar's Muwafaqat. However, these studies are generally framed by Sunni sources. This study focuses on the way in which the instances of "`Umar's Muwafaqat" included in the Sunni sources are discussed in the sources of Shi'a tafsir. Therefore, the study is the critique of the way that 'Umar's Muwafaqat is handled in Shia tafsir sources.Conference Object Christian Platonism and the Debate about Afterlife: John of Scythopolis and Maximus the Confessor on the Inactivity of the Disembodied Soul(Brill Academic Publishers, 2015) Krausmuller D.In the sixth and seventh centuries the belief in an active afterlife and its corollaries, the cult of the saints and the care of the dead, came under attack by a group of people who claimed that the souls could not function without their bodies. Some defenders of the traditional point of view sought to rebut this argument through recourse to the Platonic concept of the self-moved soul, which is not in need of the body. However, the fit between Platonism and traditional notions of the afterlife was not as complete as might first be thought. This article focuses on two Christian thinkers, John of Scythopolis and Maximus the Confessor, who were deeply influenced by Platonic ideas. In his Scholia on the writings of Pseudo-Dionysius John states clearly that after death the souls of ordinary human beings are inactive whereas the souls of the spiritual elite have entered the realm of eternal realities, which is entirely separate from this world. The case of Maximus is more complex. One of his letters is a spirited defence of the posthumous activity of the soul. However, in his spiritual writings he outlines a conceptual framework that shows a marked resemblance to the position of John of Scythopolis. © 2015 Koninklijke Brill NV, Leiden, The Netherlands.Conference Object Classification of EEG Records for the Cursor Movement with the Convolutional Neural Network [Imleç Hareketine ilişkin EEG Kayitlarinin Evrişimsel Sinir Agi ile Siniflandirilmasi](Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2018) Türk O.; Özerdem M.S.Nowadays, very successful results are obtained with deep learning architectures which can be applied to many fields. Moreover, it makes the case that the emperor participated in a broad religious discourse that began in the sixth century and continued into the ninth century, both among the Chalcedonians of Byzantium and the Levant and among the Nestorians of the East.Article Creating Society in Orwell's 1984 A semiotic analysis of the notion of social transformation(DE GRUYTER MOUTON, 2018) Kalelioglu, MuratIn this paper, the idea of constructing a new society in George Orwell's 1984 is analyzed in the context of the Paris School's semiotics trajectory. Saussurean legacy, which heavily sheds light on the semiotic conception of the school proposed by Greimas, asserts the significance of dichotomies for signs to gain their meaning. Accordingly, the study is grounded on the desired and non-desired contrariety to make the analysis with the semiotic square meaningful. It is possible to encounter the traces of the proposed idea pertaining to the struggle of forming an ideal society at all levels of meaning, predominantly at the deep level as the proposed idea represents the elementary meaning of the narrative, throughout the text. Considering the approach, desired society gains its meaning in the face of the non-desired one relativistically. Regarding the opposition theory of Saussure, what is good for the Party is not supposed to be good for the Opponents. For this reason, the idea of creating society is on the battleground, as there is an uphill fight between the ruling Party and the Opponents. The formation of desired society is revealed thanks to the semiotic square by focusing on both positive and negative transition processes. The really interesting aspect that we encountered is the vicious unended cycle and the war that will never end between the stated groups within the framework of the ideology/axiology perspective.Article Design and implementation of a new contactless triple piezoelectrics wind energy harvester(Elsevier Ltd, 2017) Kurt E.; Cottone F.; Uzun Y.; Orfei F.; Mattarelli M.; Özhan D.The features of the new designed and constructed harvester are examined. The harvested power of three piezoelectric layers having different masses (i.e. different natural frequencies) has been explored. These layers have the same length around the harvester body, whereas a permanent magnet (PM) attached to the shaft rotates by low speed wind and this PM repels these three piezoelectric layers with a 120° phase shift. Since PM and the PMs located to the tip of the layers do not contact, this system improves the lifetime of the harvester. The measured harvested power in the low wind speeds (i.e. 1.75 m/s) is of the order of 0.2 µW. The waveform includes many subharmonic and superharmonic components, hence the total harmonic distortion (THD) is found around 130%, which is fairly high due to nonlinear effects. Although the system shows an high THD, the 20% of the signal can be rectified and stored in the capacitor for the use of harvested energy. A scenario has also been created for a resistive load of RL = 1 M? and 100 k? for various wind speeds and it has been proven that the harvester can feed the load at even lower wind speeds. In addition, extra power beyond the usage of the load can be stored into the capacitor. The proposed harvester and its rectifying unit can be a good solution for the energy conversion procedures of low-power required machines. © 2017 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLCArticle Determination of essential oil composition, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of anise (Pimpinella anisum L.) and cumin (Cuminum cyminum L.) Cumin essential oil showed strong antimicrobial activity against C. albicans with 22±0.9 mm inhibition zone diameter. P. aeruginosa showed resistance to both essential oils. The antioxidant activity of cumin essential oil (75.60%) was observed closer to ascorbic acid (78.75%), higher than BHA (50.45%) and BHT (23.54%). Although anise essential oil exhibited low activity, it has the similar activity with BHT. The scavenging activity of the samples decreasing order was ascorbic acid> cumin >BHA>BHT> anise. © Ankara Üniversitesi Ziraat Fakültesi.Article Developing a scale for constructivist learning environment management skills [Yapi{dotless}landi{dotless}rmaci{dotless} Ögrenme Ortami{dotless}ni{dotless} Yönetme Becerileri Ölçeginin Geliştirilmesi](Ani Publishing, 2014) Yildirim M.C.Problem Statement: The success of creating a constructivist learning environment is directly related to teachers' management abilities and therefore scales that evaluate those skills are essential to the process. Given the importance of this subject, the development of scales that address all aspects of the constructivist learning environment should be an assessment priority. Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this study is to develop a scale that will determine elementary and high school teachers' management skills within the constructivist learning environment. Methods: The study was conducted on three different study groups composed of teachers working in elementary and high schools located in the city center of Şanli{dotless}urfa, Turkey. The groups were determined by the random sampling method. A draft scale composed of 47 items was compiled for use in this study. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was applied to evaluate the factor structure of the scale. Item analysis was used to evaluate the consistency of each item within the entire scale and the distinctive quality of each item. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was applied to assess whether the factors obtained as a result of EFA were confirmed or not. The reliability of the scale was calculated by Cronbach's alpha coefficient for internal consistency and test-retest methods. Findings and Results: As a result of EFA, a six-factored structure composed of 33 items, which have factor load values of.49 and above was finalized. Item analysis affirmed that each item was consistent with the entire scale and the distinctive powers of the items were at an acceptable level. CFA indicated that the fit indexes had values significantly above acceptable values, which confirmed the 6-factored structure. The scale's internal consistency coefficient, which was.95, indicated high reliability. Conclusions and Recommendations: The study results showed that this scale was an appropriate instrument to evaluate teachers' management skills within the constructivist learning environment in elementary and high schools in Turkey. A version of this scale for students can be developed to collect more detailed information about the constructivist learning environment management skills of teachers. © 2014 ANI Publishing.Article Development of the school principals' servant leadership behaviors scale and evaluation of servant leadership behaviors according to teachers' views [Okul Müdürlerinin Hizmetkar Liderlik Davranişlari Ölçe?inin Geliştirilmesi ve Hizmetkar Liderlik Davranişlarinin Ö?retmen Görüşlerine Göre De?erlendirilmesi](Turkish Education Association, 2015) Ekinci A.The purpose of this research is to develop a scale describing the servant leadership behaviors for school principals and also evaluation of school principals' servant leadership behaviors according to teachers' views as based on this developed scale. For this purpose, a scale outline was firstly formed based on literature and was presented to experts to take their opinions. According to experts' feedback, nine items were taken from the outline. The obtained data was analyzed by superimposing the outline scale with 39-items on 363 teachers who work at primary schools. A construct of five-dimensional (altruist behaviors, empathy, justice, integrity, humility) and 36-items were produced at the end of Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). In the second stage, 262 teachers' views were obtained from the implementation of the developed scales were analyzed descriptively. According to the obtained results, it was determined that "School Principals Servant Leadership Behaviors Scale" (SPSLBS) was a valid and reliable measurement. Also, there are significant differences according to teachers' views on school principals servant leadership behaviors, based on factors such as teacher gender, duration of time working with current principals, school principals membership in professional associations, and whether or not the teacher and principal are in the same association.Article DID THE MOSSYNOIKOI WHISTLE? S.; Dundar, A.In this study, a novel phthalonitrile, 4-chloro-5-(2-((2-hydroxyethyl)(p-tolyl)amino)ethoxy)phthalonitrile (3), and its metallophthalocyanine derivatives (4-6) are prepared by cyclotetramerization with appropriate metal salts in dimethylformamide. The newly prepared compounds have been characterized by several spectroscopic techniques. All compounds are evaluated for their antioxidant and antibacterial potential. For the antioxidant studies, three tests are applied; DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazylradical) scavenging, metal chelating and reducing power activity. Compound 4 exhibits the best DPPH scavenging activity as 35.2% at 100 mg/L concentration. The metal chelating activities of compounds 3 and 4 are 69.7% and 56.4%, respectively. Reducing power activities of compounds 3 and 4 are higher than alpha-tocopherol which is used as positive control. All compounds show moderate antibacterial activity when compared to the standard antibiotics, amikacin and tetracycline.Article DROUGHT TOLERANCE INDICES OF SELECTED LANDRACES AND BREAD WHEAT (TRITICUM AESTIVUM L.) GENOTYPES DERIVED FROM SYNTHETIC WHEATS(CORVINUS UNIV BUDAPEST, 2016) Aktas, H.The present study was performed to determine performance of selected four synthetic derived bread wheat genotypes, four bread wheat landraces and four modern wheat genotypes under rain-fed and supplemented irrigation experiments based on randomized complete block design with four replications at GAP International Agricultural Research and Training Center, Diyarbakir, Turkey in 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 growing seasons. According to results of pairwise correlation and biplot analysis, significant and positive correlation was observed between grain yield in stress condition (Ys) and stress tolerant index (STI), geometric mean productivity (GMP), mean productivity (MP), harmonic productivity (HM), yield stability index (YSI), yield index (YI), drought resistance index (DI) and stress non-stress production index (SNPI) indicating these indices can be used as parameters for evaluating drought tolerant genotypes. Negative correlation between grain yield in stress (Ys) with SSI and no correlation with TOL indicated that these indices should be used in severe drought conditions for screening genotypes. Number seed in spike (NSS), plant height (PH) and thousand kernel weight (TKW) correlated with grain yield in stress conditions (Ys) according to biplot analysis, also genotypes with lower reduction relating to these traits had higher yield in stress conditions. According to results SEN-DER genotypes G7, G10, landrace group genotype G11 (Sorik) were determined as the most tolerant genotypes to be used to improve drought tolerant varieties, while modern wheat genotypes G4 (Ceyhan-99) and G2 (Tekin) were high productive in irrigation conditions and low productive in rain-fed conditions.Article Economic reasoning and its educational forms in Turkish education system(Horizon Research Publishing, 2018) Beltekin N.; Özdemir Y.The neoliberal trends which have been become dominant with the 1980s caused the reconstruction of all social areas, especially economy. The World Bank who is the global actor of the neoliberal policies is the object of this reconstruction processes in especially east societies. The economic reasoning is the main subject of this processes has been tried to be hegemonic in the educational fields too. In this paper, it is tried to indicate the educational forms of economic reasoning by examining the Turkish education system after 1980’s. The economic reasoning is a thinking form which aims to price everything. Its main aim is to make fenomens suited for the pricing. In the other words, the main aim of economic reasoning is to make everything subject of market. Because material things’ weights, lengths and volumes are measurable, it is easy to make them suited for pricing. But when someone try to do the same thing for educational institutions and educational labor, it is not easy. So in this study, we tried to show how the economic reasoning deal with this problem. In other words, we tried to find out how pricing and marketization processes have been realized by examining of curriculum, private schools, autonomy of schools’ budgets, tuition fees, educational quality and performance evaluation. © 2018 by authors, all rights reserved.Article The effect of chewing gum on post-cesarean intestine functions [Sakiz çignemeni·n sezaryen sonrasi bagirsak fonksi·yonlarina etki·si·](2013) Utli H.; Çalişkan N.The study was carried out experimentally in order to analyze the effect of chewing gum on the start of postcesarean intestine functions.
