Review Anatolian Medicinal Plants as Potential Antiviral Agents: Bridging Traditional Knowledge and Modern Science in the Fight Against Covid-19 and Related Viral Infections(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2024) Tilkat, Engin; Jahan, Israt; Hoser, Ayse; Kaplan, Alevcan; Ozdemir, Oguzhan; Onay, AhmetThe severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was the cause of the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), commonly known as the coronavirus pandemic. Since December 2020, COVID-19 vaccines have been extensively administered in numerous countries. In addition to new antiviral medications, the treatment regimen encompasses symptom management. Despite sustained research efforts, the outbreak remains uncontrolled, with affected patients still lacking proper treatment. This review is a valuable asset for researchers and practitioners aiming to delve into the yet unexplored potential of Anatolian flora in the fight against COVID-19 and other viral infections. Numerous medicinal plants in Anatolia, such as thyme, sage, cannabis, oregano, licorice root, and Origanum sp., contain bioactive compounds with proven antiviral properties that have been used in the region for centuries. The rich legacy of traditional Anatolian medicine (TAM), has significantly influenced modern medicine; thus, the profusion of medicinal plants native to Anatolia holds promise for antiviral drug development, making this review essential for researchers and practitioners.Review Applying Ibn Khaldun: the Recovery of a Lost Tradition in Sociology(Scientific Studies Assoc-ilmi Etudler dernegi-ilem, 2020) Gokdag, Kamuran[No Abstract Available]Review Bedouin Bureaucrats: Mobility and Property in the Ottoman Empire.(Burhan Caglar, 2024) Ciftci, ErdalThis monograph examines the imperial nation-building process in the latter half of the nineteenth century, centering on tent-dwelling Bedouin tribes of inner Syria, predominantly in the Transjordan region. The authors argue, firstly, that Iconoclasm was only one aspect in a much broader process of transformation, and secondly, that Iconoclasm itself was less significant than Iconophile sources would have us believe. The book is clearly intended to be a comprehensive treatment of the period. Owing to the specialisations of the two authors, the focus is on art history and on social, economic and administrative history, whereas literature is barely mentioned.annotation.listelement.badge Context and Implications Document for: Does the ARCS motivational model affect students' achievement and motivation? In the former of these books Gregory explains how the miracles and prophecies of saints come about, and in the latter he deals with the afterlife and the efficacy of masses for the dead.Book Review Deleuze and research methodologies(TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD, 2015) Tan, PelinThe methodological crisis that resulted from conservative, closed-circle orthodoxy in the field of social sciences has led us to question our toolbox of empirical research methods over the last decade. Aside from the issue of conducting quantitative and qualitative research methodologies separately, and the problems of grounding theory in empirical practice, the discussion of embedded situational research methods has been much neglected in academia. Additionally, the multiplicity of new forms for contemporary knowledge production urges us to adapt our methods. Nowadays, the gap between theory and practice is frequently challenged from a Deleuzian perspective. Deleuzian research is often based on understanding the social subject as an affect and as an experience. Furthermore, from a Deleuzian perspective, in our complex societies ‘data’ is a rhizomatic assemblage that needs to be searched, evaluated, analysed and represented with complex tools or, indeed, with new research tools invented accordingly. Recently, visual tools and production methods such as moving image, video activism, mapping, visual networking, digital archiving and performative artistic research have been employed and applied often in transdisciplinary research based on a Deleuzian conceptualisation of knowledge production. This means visuality as both concept and a product is not only a representation of knowledge but also the machine that drives it.Review A Detailed Review on the Green Synthesis of Selenium Nanoparticles Using Plant Extracts and Their Anticancer Applications(Wiley-v C H verlag Gmbh, 2024) Tarhan, TubaNanobiotechnology is a field of science with tremendous promising applications in cancer chemotherapy, targeted drug delivery, molecular diagnosis, and molecular imaging. Selenium, one of the critical trace elements, participates in the structure of selenocysteine protein, which plays an important role in maintaining redox balance due to its oxidoreductase activity. Elemental selenium (Se0) has significantly lower toxicity values than its oxyanions, selenite, and selenate forms. For this reason, it is important to convert elemental selenium into atomic form in biological studies. In particular, their role in regulating the immune system makes selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) superior to others. SeNPs have been discussed effectively in the literature in anticancer activity applications. SeNPs green synthesis is focused on a more economical, biocompatible, and environmentally friendly application by using, reducing, and stabilizing agents in plants. The aim of this review is to highlight the anticancer activity applications of SeNPs synthesized with plant extracts in the last 6 years (i.e., between 2019 and 2024). In addition, it aims to shed light on the green synthesis mechanism of NPs by using plant extracts and to highlight the factors affecting green synthesis and its advantages and disadvantages.annotation.listelement.badge The downfall of Uber in Turkey: a case study on tourism in Istanbul, Turkey(Anatolia, 2021) Çakar, Kadir[No abstract available]Editorial Editorial: Anxiety, burnout, and stress among healthcare professionals(Frontiers, 2023) Bayram Değer, VasfiyeThe technology, informatics and social fields are experiencing continuous changes and developments day by day. Such changes and developments influence human life and expand the fields of research. One of these fields is the world of work life. Work life is an area where people spend a significant part of their lives by spending time and effort. The willingness of employees to make quality use of their time and labor significantly affects the efficiency obtained as a result of their work (Burton, 2010). The nature of the work requirements and the quantity of communication with other people in the workplace create challenging situations for employees. In this context, when it comes to health in work life, health workers are seen as an important sample group in terms of researching variables in work life, since their field requires qualified labor force, is vital and is a profession that constantly involves face-to-face interaction with people. The health sector is one of the sectors where employees have the most difficulties due to various factors. The health sector differs from other working environments due to the difficulty of serving patients with severe stress and the fact that employees in this sector often face stressful situations in their daily working environment.Book Review eVisa's impacts on travel and tourism: the case of Turkey(EMERALD GROUP PUBLISHING LTD, 2018) Cakar, Kadir; Kalbaska, Nadzeya; Inanir, Ali; Oren, Tuba SahinPurpose The purpose of this study was to investigate eVisa applications. eVisa is a service that falls under eTourism, whose growing use can be attributed to its ability to simplify the process of obtaining a visa. The objectives of this study were twofold: to explore the eVisa experience of tourists who have previously visited Turkey by using the service and to analyse the perceptions of stakeholders who have contributed to eVisa. Design/methodology/approach The present research has utilised two methodologies within the context of qualitative research methods. Data were gathered from tourists by using reviews (n = 1690) and in-depth interviews key actors (n = 4), which represent consumers and contributors' perspectives on the eVisa system, respectively. While consumers dictate the demand of the service, contributors control its supply. The contributors referenced herein are relevant eVisa stakeholders in Antalya. Findings The research findings revealed eVisa facilitation's positive effects on a destination's image and tourists' intentions to revisit destinations compared to when they use traditional visa-obtaining processes. The research findings then present suitable data for destination managers and policymakers regarding eVisa facilitation, followed by this study's conclusions and implications. Research limitations/implications eVisa facilitation can foster demand for travel and tourism while maintaining bureaucratic elements of the traditional visa procedure. From a psychological perspective, eVisa facilitation can positively affect travel motivation to certain destinations where eVisas are applicable, as well as positively influence intentions to revisit tourist destinations. Originality/value The originality and uniqueness of the present study lies in its contribution to the increasing recognition of the significance and positive impacts of eVisa facilitation on travel and tourism demand.annotation.listelement.badge First report of Fusarium oxysporum causing wilt on lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) in Turkey((Journal of Plant Pathology, 2021) Güney, İnci Güler; Özer, Göksel; Koşar, İslim; Derviş, Sibel; Günen, Utku[No abstract available]Other First Report of Neoscytalidium dimidiatum Causing Canker, Shoot Blight, and Root Rot of Pistachio in Turkey(AMER PHYTOPATHOLOGICAL SOC, 2019) Dervis, S.; Turkolmez, S.; Ciftci, O.; Serce, C.
