Article Anoxybacillus sp. SO B1-Immobilized Amberlite XAD-16 for Solid-Phase Preconcentration of Cu(II) and Pb(II) and Their Determinations by Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry(TAYLOR & FRANCIS INC, 2015) Oral, Elif Varhan; Ozdemir, Sadin; Dolak, Ibrahim; Okumus, Veysi; Dundar, Abdurrahman; Ziyadanogullari, Berrin; Aksoy, Zehra; Onat, RukenA new method for the determination of Cu(II) and Pb(II) by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS) after preconcentrating on a column containing Anoxybacillus sp. SO B1-immobilized Amberlite XAD-16 was developed. The functional groups of Anoxybacillus sp. SO B1 immobilized on Amberlite XAD-16 were characterized in KBr tablets by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometry. Various parameters such as pH, amount of the adsorbent, eluent type and volume, and flow rate of the sample solution were studied. The optimum pH values of quantitative sorption for Cu(II) and Pb(II) were found to be pH 7.0 and 5.0 and Cu(II) and Pb(II) ions could be quantitatively eluted with 5.0ml of 1.0mol L-1 HCI and 10.0ml of 0.25mol L-1 HNO3, respectively. Recoveries of Cu(II) and Pb(II) were found to be 100.9 +/- 1.57% and 100.3 +/- 0.49% (N = 5), the limits of detection of Cu(II) and Pb(II) in the determination by FAAS (3s, N = 10) were found to be 0.8 and 1.6 mu g L-1, respectively. The proposed enrichment method was applied for metal ion determination from water samples such as two parts of Tigris River water in Diyarbakir and Elazig, Lake of Hazar in Elazig, and tap water in Diyarbakir. Furthermore, the accuracy of the proposed method was verified by studying the analytical recovery and by analyzing certified reference material (NCS-DC 73350 leaves of poplar).Article Application of Half-Sandwich Metal-Phosphinite Compounds to Biological Activities: Determine the energies of the HOMO and LUMO levels(Wiley Online Library, 2022) Dündar, Abdurrahman; Rafikova, Khadichakhan; Zazybin, Alexey; Güzel, Remziye; Kayan, Cezmi; Karakaş, Duygu Elma; Dündar, Abdurrahman; ISLAM, Sholpan; Okumuş, Veysi; Aydemir, MuratMononuclear transition metal complexes 1-(furan-2-yl)ethyldiphenyl[dichloro(η6-p-cymene)ruthenium(II)]phosphinite, (2), 1-(furan-2-yl)ethyldiphenyl[dichloro(η6-benzene) ruthenium(II)] phosphinite (3), 1-(furan-2-yl)ethyldipheny[chloro(η4-1,5-cyclooctadiene)rhodium(I)]phosphinite (4), 1-(furan-2-yl)ethyldiphenyl[dichloro (η5pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)iridium (III)] phosphinite (5) were synthesized and characterized by microanalysis, infrared, MS, and NMR spectroscopy. The biological activities of the complexes were also tested. Compounds 2 and 5 were the best complexes at DPPH radical scavenging and reducing power activity at 73.27 % and 0.41 at 200 μg/mL, respectively. The highest antimicrobial activity exhibited by complex 3 as 14 mm inhibition zone against S. aureus. All of the complexes have cleaved the DNA from the double-strand and exhibited three bands on gel electrophoresis. Moreover, cyclic voltammetry studies of the phosphinite complexes were carried out to determine the energies of the HOMO and LUMO levels as well as to estimate their electrochemical and some electronic properties.Article The biochemical contents and antioxidant activities of four tanacetum L. taxa(Progress in Nutrition, 2021) Emre, Mustafa Yunus; Kürşat, Murat; Emre, Mustafa Yunus; Okkes, YilmazThe goal of the present study is to determine some of the biochemical compositions and antioxidant capacities of plant extracts in two endemic taxa for Turkey including T. cadmeum (Boiss.) Heywood subsp. orientale Grierson and T. nitens (Boiss. & Noë) Grierson together with T. polycephalum (L.) Sch.Bip subsp. argyrophyllum (K. Koch) Podlech, and T. parthenium (L.) Sch.Bip. The fatty acids were determined by using gas chromatography, while phenolics, lipid soluble vitamins and sterols were determined by using HPLC and radical scavenging activities, total phenolics, and FRAP were determined spectrophotometrically. It was found that Tanacetum taxa have palmitic acid (C16:0), and stearic acid (C18:0) as major saturated fatty acids and linoleic acid (C18:2 n6), α-linolenic acid (C18:3 n3) and oleic acid (C18:1 n9) as principal unsaturated fatty acids. It was found that Tanacetum taxa had more total unsaturated fatty acid contents (60.24±0.3%- 70.54±0.29%) than saturated fatty acids and it was found that T. parthenium had the highest total essential fatty acid composition (58.65%±0.59%). It was also reported that the omega6/omega3 ratio of T. cadmium subsp. orientale (8.22) differed from other taxa in this study. Also, the present study showed that Tanacetum had the lowest amount of lipid soluble vitamins. On the other hand, catechin was found to be the main polyphenolic compound in this study and it was determined that T. parthenium had the highest catechin (4479.1±5.71 µg/mg) and total phenolic contents (324.91±2.01 µgGAE/mg) in this study. Rutin was only determined in two endemic taxa T. cadmeum subsp. orientale (23±0.91 µg/mg), and T. nitens (5.7±0.27 µg/mg). Also, the naringenin, vanillic acid and caffeic acid amounts of the endemic T. cadmeum subsp. orientale and T. nitens were higher than other taxa in the study. In addition, it was determined that Tanacetum taxa had a high stigmasterol content. However, T. parthenium had a higher ergosterol content (271±2.36 µg/mg). It was also found that T. parthenium has highest D2, α-tocopherol, retinol acetate, ergosterol, and stigmasterol contents among the studied taxa. In addition, the study showed that Tanacetum taxa have strong DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities. It was concluded that Tanacetum taxa have potent antioxidant capacity.Article Cerebrospinal fluid levels of sortilin-1, lipocalin-2, autotaxin, decorin and interleukin-33 in patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension(Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria, 2022) Dündar, Ahmet; Arıkanoğlu, Adalet; Özdemir, Hasan Hüseyin; Aslanhan, Hamza; Çevik, Mehmet UğurBackground Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is characterized by increased cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure of unknown cause. It has been suggested that the inflammatory process plays a role in the pathophysiology of the disease. Sortilin-1, lipocalin-2, autotaxin, decorin, and interleukin-33 (IL-33) are among the factors involved in inflammatory processes. Objective To investigate the CSF levels of sortilin-1, lipocalin-2, autotaxin, decorin, and IL-33 in patients with IIH. Methods A total of 24 IIH patients and 21 healthy controls were included in the study. Demographic characteristics of the patients and of the control group as well as CSF pressures were evaluated. Sortilin-1, lipocalin-2, autotaxin, decorin and IL-33 levels in the CSF were measured. Results The CSF levels lipocalin-2, sortilin-1, autotaxin, IL-33 and CSF pressure were significantly higher in the patients group compared with the control group (p < 0.001). Decorin levels were reduced in patients (p < 0.05). There was no correlation between the autotaxin and IL-33 levels and age, gender, CSF pressure, and body mass index. The results of our study showed that inflammatory activation plays an important role in the development of the pathophysiology of IIH. In addition, the fact that the markers used in our study have never been studied in the etiopathogenesis of IIH is important in explaining the molecular mechanism of this disease. Conclusion Studies are needed to evaluate the role of these cytokines in the pathophysiology of the disease. It is necessary to evaluate the effects of these molecules on this process. © 2022. M.; Kizmaz, V.; Suzerer, V.This paper reports the fatty acid composition of the oil extracts from seeds and in vivo and in vitro grown organs of Pistacia lentiscus L. were determined by using gas chromatography. The main fatty acids were linoleic (LA), palmitic (PALM), oleic (OLA) and linolenic (ALA) acids in the fruits, resins and in both in vivo and in vitro grown root, leaf and stem sections of male or female tree. The major fatty acids were represented by polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) accounting for 56.94 %, 64.44 % and 55.57 % in root, leaf and stem part of male tree grown in vivo, respectively. The prominent class of fatty acid composition of different male organs of P. lentiscus L. regenerated in vitro was represented by PUFA accounting for 63.24 %. The monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA), OLA and PUFA, LA were determined in the oils of the two genotypes studied.Article Ganoderma Lucidum Alleviates Ischemia- Reperfusion-Induced Renal Injury in Wistar Rats(Analytical and Quantitave Cytopathology and Histopathology, 2021) Dönder, Ahmet; Aşır, FıratOBJECTIVE: To investigate effects of Ganoderma lucidum (G. lucidum) kidney sections of rats induced by ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. STUDY DESIGN: A total of 40 rats were assigned to 4 groups: control (Sham), I/R, G. lucidum, and I/R+ G. lucidum groups. Prior to animal experiments, 20 mL/kg G. lucidum was administered to the G. lucidum-treated groups for 7 days. The control and 1/R groups received only saline solution. The kidney was exposed to hypoxia for 1 hour by clamping renal vessels and was then allowed to reoxygenate for 6 hours. Blood was taken to measure for serum MDA, MPO, and GSH. Kidney tissues were resected for histological paraffin tissue protocol. Hematoxylin-eosin and immunohistochemical staining were performed. RESULTS: MDA and MPO levels were highest in the I/R group but were close to the levels of the control group in the I/R+G. lucidum group. Unlike MDA and MPO values, GSH values were the lowest in the I/R group, but after G. lucidum treatment, GSH levels increased in the I/R+ G. lucidum group. In kidney sections of hematoxylin-eosin staining, the control group showed no pathology. In the I/R group, atrophic glomeruli, degenerated tubular cells, and mononuclear cell infiltration with dilated and congested vessels were observed. In the I/R+ G. lucidum group, I/R pathology was mostly recovered. In the G. lucidum group, ADAMTS-4 expression was moderately expressed in glomerular and tubular cells. The I/R group showed positive ADAMTS-4 expression in mostly inflammatory cells. In the I/R+ G. lucidun: group, ADAMTS-4 was positively expressed only in glomerular structures. In the G. lucidum group, caspase-3 expression was observed in glomerular and tubular cells. The I/R group showed strong caspase-3 activity in glomerular and tubular cells, in vascular cells, and inflammatory cells. The I/R +G. lucidum group showed weak caspase-3 expression. CONCLUSION: Ischemia-reperfusion injury caused histopathological and biochemical alterations in renal tissue; G. lucidum protected tissue structure and integrity by its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.Article In-Vitro Antioxidant, Cytotoxic, Cholinesterase Inhibitory Activities and Anti-Genotoxic Effects of Hypericum Retusum Aucher Flowers, Fruits and Seeds Methanol Extracts in Human Mononuclear Leukocytes(Iranian Journal of Pharmaceutical Research, 2017) Keskin, C.; Aktepe, N.; Yükselten, Y.; Asuman,; Boğa, M.The present study investigates the antioxidant, anticancer, anticholinesterase, anti-genotoxic activities and phenolic contents of flower, fruit and seed methanol extracts of Hypericum retusum AUCHER. The amounts of protocatechuic acid, catechin, caffeic acid and syringic acid in methanol extracts were determined by HPLC. Total phenolic content of H. retusum seed extract was found more than fruit and flower extracts. The DPPH free radical scavenging activity of flower and seed methanol extracts showed close activity versus BHT as control. Among three extracts of H. retusum only flower methanol extract was exhibited considerable cytotoxic activities against to HeLa and NRK-52E cell lines. Moreover, seed methanol extract showed both acetyl and butyrl-cholinesterase inhibitory activity. The highest anti-genotoxic effects were seen 25 and 50 μg/mL concentrations. In this study, the extracts showed a strong antioxidant and anti-genotoxic effect. The seed extract was more efficient- than extracts of fruit and flowers. Our results suggest that the antioxidant and anti-genotoxic effects of extracts depend on their phenolic contents. Further studies should evaluate the in-vitro and in-vivo the benefits of H. retusum seed methanol extracts. © 2017 by School of Pharmacy.Article Increased visinin-like protein-1, YKL-40, lipocalin-2, and IL-23 levels in patients with migraine(Taylor & Francis Online, 2022) Dündar, Ahmet; Cafer, Vugar; Aslanhan, Hamza; Özdemir, Hasan Hüseyin; Yilmaz, Ahmet; Çevik, Mehmet UğurBackground: Migraine is a type of primary headache caused by changes in the trigeminal system and has been reported to be associated with neurovascular inflammation of cerebral and extracerebral vessels. Objective: It is known that inflammation is an important process in the pathogenesis of migraine. It has been shown that the molecules of visinin-like protein 1 (Vilip-1), YKL-40, lipocalin-2 and interleukin (IL)-23 play a role in the inflammatory process. Our aim is to investigate the role of this molecule in the metabolic pathway of migraine disease. Methods: Fifty migraine patients with and without aura in the interictal period were included in the study. Vilip-1, YKL-40, lipocalin-2, and IL-23 levels were measured by ELISA method. Results: Serum vilip-1, YKL-40, lipocalin-2, and IL-23 levels were found to be significantly higher in migraine patients compared to the control group. We found that this molecule increased significantly in migraine subgroups compared to the control group (p < 0.001). A positive significant correlation was found between vilip-1 level and YKL-40 and lipocalin-2 levels in migraine patients. In addition, a positive correlation was observed between visual analogue scale score, number of days with pain and vilip-1 level (p < 0.01). The results of our study showed that activation of inflammatory mediators may play a role in the pathogenesis of migraine disease. In addition, our study is valuable in that inflammatory molecules are high in the interictal period and these biomarkers have never been analyzed in migraine patients. However, we still believe that larger studies are needed to explain the role of vilip-1, YKL-40, lipocalin-2, and IL-23 in the molecular mechanism of migraine disease.Article Investigation of serum vaspin, visfatin, chemerin and IL-18 levels in migraine patients(Arq Neuropsiquiatr, 2021) Dönder, Ahmet; Cafer, Vugar; Yilmaz, Ahmet; Aslanhan, Hamza; Arikanoğlu, AdaletBackground: Migraines are headaches caused by changes in the trigeminovascular metabolic pathway. Migraine headache attacks are associated with neurovascular inflammation, but their pathophysiological mechanisms have not been fully explained. Objective: To investigate the relationship between serum vaspin, visfatin, chemerin and interleukin-18 (IL-18) levels and the frequency of attacks in migraine headache. Methods: Three groups were established: migraine with aura (n = 50), migraine without aura (n = 50) and control group (n = 50). The migraine diagnosis was made in accordance with the International Classification of Headache Disorders-III beta diagnostic criteria. The analyses on serum vaspin, visfatin, chemerin and IL-18 levels were performed using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method. Results: The serum vaspin, visfatin, chemerin and IL-18 levels were found to be significantly higher in the migraine patients than in the control group (p < 0.01). No statistically significant differences in serum vaspin, visfatin, chemerin and IL-18 levels were found among the migraine patients during attacks or in the interictal period (p>0.05). The serum visfatin and chemerin levels of the migraine patients were positively correlated with their serum IL-18 levels (p < 0.01), while their serum chemerin and visfatin levels were positively correlated with their serum vaspin levels (p < 0.05). Conclusions: This study showed that these biomarkers may be related to migraine pathogenesis. Nonetheless, we believe that more comprehensive studies are needed in order to further understand the role of vaspin, visfatin, chemerin and IL-18 levels in the pathophysiology of migraine headachesArticle Preconcentration with Bacillus subtilis-Immobilized Amberlite XAD-16: Determination of Cu2+ and Ni2+ in River, Soil, and Vegetable Samples(TAYLOR & FRANCIS INC, 2015) Okumus, Veysi; Ozdemir, Sadin; Kilinc, Ersin; Dundar, Abdurrahman; Yuksel, Uyan; Baysal, ZubeydeSolid-phase extraction (SPE) method was developed for the preconcentration of Cu2+ and Ni2+ before their determination by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). Bacillus subtilis-immobilized Amberlite XAD-16 was used as biosorbent. Effects of critical parameters such as pH, flow rate of samples, amount of Amberlite XAD-16 and biosorbent, sample volume, eluent type, and volume and concentration of eluent on column preconcentration of Cu2+ and Ni2+ were optimized. Applicability of the method was validated through the analysis of the certified reference tea sample (NCS ZC73014). Sensitivity of ICP-OES was improved by 36.4-fold for Cu2+ and 38.0-fold for Ni2+ by SPE-ICP-OES method. Limit of quantitation (LOQ) was found to be 0.7 and 1.1ng/ml for Cu2+ and Ni2+, respectively. Concentrations of Cu2+ and Ni2+ were determined by ICP-OES after application of developed method. Relative standard deviations (RSDs) were lower than 4.9% for Cu2+ and 7.9% for Ni2+. The Tigris River that irrigates a large agricultural part of Southeast Turkey is polluted by domestic and industrial wastes. Concentrations of Cu2+ and Ni2+ were determined in water, soil, and some edible vegetables as a biomonitor for heavy metal pollution.Article Protective Effect of Carvacrol Against Oxidative Stress and Heart Injury in Cyclophosphamide-Induced Cardiotoxicity in Rat(INST TECNOLOGIA PARANA, 2015) Cetik, Songul; Ayhanci, Adnan; Sahinturk, VarolPossible protective effects of carvacrol (Car) against cyclophosphamide (CP)-induced cardiotoxicity was examined in this study. Experimental groups of the rats were randomly divided into 13 groups, each including seven animals: Group 1 (control) treated with saline; groups 2, 3, and 4 treated with 50, 100, or 150 mg/kg of CP, respectively; group 5 treated with 0.5 mL olive oil; groups 6 and 7 treated with 5.0 and 10 mg/kg of Car, respectively; groups 8, 9, or 10 treated with respective CP plus 5.0 mg/kg of Car; and groups 11, 12, or 13 treated with respective CP plus 10 mg/kg of Car. Serum alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartat transaminase (AST), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), malondialdehyde (MDA), creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB), total oxidant state (TOS), oxidative stress index (OSI), and levels were high only in the CP groups. There was a dose-dependence on the CP-induced cardiotoxicity. Hemorrhage, inflammatory cell infiltration and the separation of the muscle fibers in the heart tissue supported the biochemical data. With 5.0 and 10 mg/kg Car, there was an important decrease in the CP toxicity and this was related to the oxidative and nitrosative stress in the CP-induced cardiotoxicity. Reduced inflammation and lipid peroxidation in the heart tissue and increase of serum glutathione (GSH) and total antioxidant capacity (TAS) levels were found when carvacrol was applied. Based on these findings, it could be proposed that Car was a strong candidate in preventing the CP-induced cardiotoxicity but further clinical studies should be done in order to verify its application on humans.Article Protective properties of kefir on burn wounds of mice that were infected with S. aureus, P. auroginasa and E. coli(Cellular and Molecular Biology (CMB), 2019) Çetik Yıldız, Songül; Demir, Cemil; Cengiz, Mustafa; Ayhanci, AdnanBurns and burn wounds are very sensitive to infections and cause a large amount of death worldwide. Although burn wound is sterile at the beginning, because of the risk factors such as prolonged hospital stay, immune suppression and burn affecting large surface area, colonisation with Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli occur. For the burn therapy, one of the most important ways is to control bacterial infections. A probiotic fermented milk product kefir has antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiinflammatory, anticancer and various health promoting features. This study aims to examine possible protective properties of kefir which was used on the burn wounds that were infected with S. aureus, P. auroginasa and E. coli. Swiss albino / Balb-c mice were seperated into four groups: (1) used as control group, (2) second-degree burn model+ burn wounds were infected with P.aeruginosa + S.aureus + E.coli, (3) second-burn wounds were treated with sterile pads dressed with kefir and (4) second-degree burn+burn wounds were infected with P. aeruginosa + S.aureus +E.coli before being treated with sterile pads dressed with kefir. The serum biochemical results verified the histopathological results and our findings showed that kefir is an effective product with cell-protecting properties.Article Removal of 17β-estradiol from aqueous systems with hydrophobic microspheres(Journal of Polymer Engineering, 2021) Alacabey, İhsan; Kireç, Osman; Alkan, Hüseyin; Erol, KadirSub-microparticles have many applications in different fields today. In this study, it is aimed to develop hydrophobic microparticles as an alternative to existing methods and to determine the 17β-estradiol adsorption performance of this adsorbent to purify the 17β-estradiol hormone which is found as an endocrine disruptor in environmental waters with high capacity and low cost. In this study, L-phenylalanine containing Poly(HEMA-MAPA) microparticles were synthesized by microemulsion polymerization and used as adsorbent. Microparticles were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) methods. The size of the Poly(HEMA-MAPA) microparticles used was measured as 120-200 nm. Specific surface area and elemental analysis studies were also conducted. While the surface area of the particles was found to be a very high value of 1890 m2/g, the amount of incorporation of MAPA into the polymeric structure was calculated as 0.43 mmol/g. Adsorption studies were carried out in the batch system under different ambient conditions (17β-estradiol concentration, temperature, ionic intensity). The adsorption capacity of Poly(HEMA-MAPA) microparticles was calculated to be 98.4 mg/g. Isotherm models for adsorption interaction were investigated deeply, and it was determined that the adsorption mechanism is suitable for Langmuir isotherm.Other Removal of cadmium (II) in the aqueous solutions by biosorption of Bacillus licheniformis isolated from soil in the area of Tigris River(International Journal of Environmental Analytical Chemistry, 2021) Baran, Mehmet Fırat; Duz, Mehmet ZahirBiosorption by dead bacteria is an alternative and effective method for the removal toxic elements from drinking water and waste water. The biosorption of Cd(II) from aqueous solutions was studied in a batch method by using dead bacteria Bacillus licheniformis sp. extracted from soil in the area of Tigris River. The Cd element analysis was determined using ICP-OES and AAS. The maximum adsorption capacity of biosorbent was determined, respectively, 24.51 mg/g for Cd element from Langmuir isotherm constants in the optimum conditions. The characterisation of B. licheniformis to describe behaviour of bacteria was determined such as adsorption isotherm, kinetic and thermodynamic data using FT-IR, TGA, DTA, SEM and EDX. The results suggested that the most equilibrium data of Cd(II) bioadsorption was best represented by the pseudo second-order equation and Langmuir isotherm model at different time-temperatures. The thermodynamic functions and activation energy was found to be ΔG°; −0,984 kJ/mol at 318 K, ΔH°; 15.48 kJ/mol, ΔS°; 39.08 kJ/mol and Ea; 23.24 kJ/mol and due to the ΔG°< 0, ΔH°> 0, ΔS°> 0, the reaction mechanism was determined to be physical adsorption and endothermic. This study shows that B. licheniformis sp. can be used as an effective method for the removal of Cd(II) from aqueous solutions.Article Serum YKL-40 levels in patients with multiple sclerosis(Arq Neuropsiquiatr, 2021) Dönder, Ahmet; Özdemir, Hasan HüseyinBackground: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the central nervous system. The YKL-40 protein, which is secreted from various cells that contribute to inflammation and infection, plays a role in immune regulation. Objective: This study investigated the serum YKL-40 levels of patients with clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) and MS. Methods: The participants was divided into three groups: 1) patients with CIS (n = 20); 2) patients with relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS; n = 39); and 3) healthy individuals (n = 35). The YKL-40 levels in serum samples obtained from the participants were measured using enzyme-linked immunoassays. Results: The median serum YKL-40 level was 20.2 ng/mL (range 9.8-75.9 ng/mL) in the patients with CIS, 22.7 ng/mL (range 13.4-57.9 ng/mL) in the patients with RRMS and 11.0 ng/mL (range 10.0-17.3 ng/mL) in the control group (p < 0.001). The serum YKL-40 levels in the patients with RRMS were correlated with the patients’ expanded disability status scale scores and ages (p < 0.05). No relationships were determined between the serum YKL-40 levels and the other variables (p > 0.05). The serum YKL-40 levels were higher in the CIS group than in the MS group. These findings show that the serum YKL-40 levels were high even at the beginning of the disease. The serum YKL-40 levels were also not involved in the progression to clinically definite MS. The generation of nanophase iron oxide magnetic particles in biological systems under the influence of stress factors was revealed. It was found that the process of biomineralization plays a role in the formation of biogenic iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles in plants and the generation of magnetite crystals in biological tissues, and stress factors have a stimulating effect on this phenomenon. Herein, the hBN nanostructure was synthesized using boric acid as a precursor material. The characteristic peaks of the hBN nanostructure were performed using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and Raman spectroscopies. The morphology and the particle size of hBN nanostructure were determined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). During the studies, various essential adsorption parameters were investigated, such as the initial dye concentration, pH of the dye solution, adsorbent dose, and contact time. Under optimal conditions, the removal of 42.6% Metanil yellow (MY) and 90% Victoria blue B (VBB) from aqueous solution was performed using a 10-mg hBN nanostructure. Furthermore, the equilibrium studies showed that the Freundlich isotherm model fitted well for the removal of MY. However, the Langmuir isotherm model fitted well for the removal of VBB. Moreover, according to the results obtained from the kinetic studies, while the first-order kinetic model was suited for the adsorption of the MY, the second-order kinetic model was found to well fit for the adsorption of VBB.Article Synthesis and characterization of magnetic nanocomposite for in vitro evaluation of irinotecan using human cell lines(Turkish Journal of Chemistry, 2021) Tarhan, TubaIn this study, magnetic O-carboxymethyl chitosan (MOCC) nanocomposite was synthesized and characterized as a drug delivery system for loading the anticancer drug irinotecan (CPT-11). To increase the drug loading capacity, MOCC was synthesized by linking the carboxyl group functionally to chitosan. Also, several critical factors such as concentration, the dose of MOCC, and contact time for optimum drug loading condition were investigated. The loading capacity of CPT-11 onto MOCC was calculated as 5.6 mg/g, and the loaded drug concentration was calculated as 0.04787 mM at pH value of 5. Besides, the cytotoxic properties of MOCC, CPT11 loaded MOCC (MOCC-CPT-11), and free CPT-11 were studied on glioblastoma multiforme cell lines, including U87 and U373. According to the results, the MOCC-CPT-11 showed at least as toxic effect as free CPT-11 even at very low concentrations, while the MOCC showed slight toxicity (cell viability of 96% to 78%) on U373 cell lines at all concentrations and for 24 h and 48 h incubation times. Moreover, the results showed that the MOCC indicated significant toxicity in increasing concentrations and incubation times, and the MOCC-CPT-11 is as toxic as free CPT-11 on U87 cells at all concentrations and incubation times.Article SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION AND INVESTIGATION OF ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF SILVER NANOPARTICLES FROM CYDONIA OBLONGA LEAF(CORVINUS UNIV BUDAPEST, 2019) Baran, Mehmet FıratIn this study, leaf extract of Cydonia oblonga were used to synthesize silver nanoparticles. Silver nanoparticles have been successfully synthesized by environmentally friendly and economical methods. Characterization of synthesized AgNPs used UV-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis.), thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TGA-DTA), X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron diffraction X-ray (EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). XRD results demonstrated that the crystal structure of AgNPs was cubic and had a size of 27.30 nm. AgNPs were found to be spherical in SEM images. The element composition was also revealed by EDX Antimicrobial activity of silver nanoparticles; Gram-negative Escherichia coli was tested on gram positive Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans yeast. The concentration values of 0.0552, 0.1535 and 0.0383 mg L-1 were determined as MIC (minimum inhibitory concentration), respectively. It was evaluated that the commercial antibiotics used were more effective at low concentrations compared to colistin, vancomycin and fluconazole.Article The Use of Fungal Biomass Agaricus bisporus Immobilized on Amberlite XAD-4 Resin for the Solid-Phase Preconcentration of Thorium(TAYLOR & FRANCIS INC, 2014) Ozdemir, Sadin; Okumus, Veysi; Dundar, Abdurrahman; Kilinc, ErsinSolid-phase extraction method was developed for the preconcentration of thorium (Th). Fungal biomass Agaricus bisporus was immobilized to Amberlite XAD-4 as solid-phase sorbent. The critical parameters such as pH of the sample solution, flow rate of the sample, volume of the sample, and the effect of major ions that affect the preconcentration of thorium in this system were evaluated. The optimum pH for the sorption of Th is 6.0, and quantitative elution occurs with 1.0mol L-1HCl. The loading capacity was determined as 0.079mmol g(-1). The optimized method was validated through analysis of the certified reference material of tea leaves (NCS ZC73014) and successfully applied to the determination of Th in a real ore sample with satisfactory results.
