Abstract
Capitalism matured with the development of industry in the 19th century; has created mechanization, new urban life, and new social classes. This situation gradually; It has changed the behavior, feelings, and thoughts of people, and made them alienated and isolated individuals in the cultural crisis. Of course, the artists were not indifferent to these negativities. Against all these negativities, some artists sought a way out by closing themselves in their inner world. This study; It is aimed to explain why the artists of the period objected to the process of modernity, which is a rational, scientific, and urban culture that took place in a period of about one and a half centuries, and as a result, why they turned to abstract art, which is inherently spiritual. During work; thesis, book, magazine, article, movie, etc. domestic and foreign resources were used. In the light of the findings, the artists and works of art of the period were interpreted in the context of the thesis topic and supported by the works produced on the subject. As a result; Feeling helpless in the face of the materialistic culture of modernity, the artist felt the need to create new spiritual changes and aesthetic forms with his inner flow. Over time, these changes gave birth to Abstract art, an understanding of painting that directly exports anti-naturalistic, introverted life. At this point, Abstract art is an important movement that moves away from the traditional with its new perspective and transforms it into the holistic nature of inner reality.
