Hammer-Purgstall’ın İslami dönem Fars şiiri çevirilerinden literal bir ağ yarattığınıiddia eden bu çalışma, onun çevirilerinin Alman edebi oryantalizminin inşa ve kurumsallaşmasında nasıl bir rol oynadığını incelemektedirArticle Ameloriate Effect of Glucose Monohydrate on Nicotine Sulfate-Induced Toxicity and Teratogenicity in Xenopus Embryos: an Experimental Study(Middle Pomeranian Sci Soc Env Prot, 2023) Emre, Mustafa; Tunc, Erdal; Sertdemir, Yasar; Pekmezekmek, Ayper BogaIt is well documented that nicotine causes low birth weight, preterm birth, pregnancy difficulties, lower fertility, inhibition of spermatogenesis, and decreased steroidogenesis and potassium channels conductance of Xenopus oocytes. Lung cancer is the most well-known adverse impact of nicotine. This work used a 96-hour FETAX test to examine how concurrent administration of glucose monohydrate modifies the effects of exposure to nicotine, nicotine sulfate, and/or glucose on ion channels and membrane potential in Xenopus leavis embryos at an early stage of development. In-vitro fertilised embryos were treated with nicotine and glucose alone or in combination for this aim, and the effects of those treatments were then assessed for potential teratogenic effects. At the conclusion of the FETAX technique, the ratios of healthy, abnormal, and dead embryos were calculated, and the length of embryos in each treatment group was assessed. The ratios of abnormal and dead embryos were considerably higher with nicotine treatment alone compared to controls. Compared to the results of the nicotine-alone treatment group, the ratio of aberrant embryos was marginally reduced by concurrent glucose and nicotine therapy. In contrast, the ratio of normal embryos was raised. Additionally, treatments with glucose, nicotine, and Nic+Glu significantly altered the resting membrane potentials of fertilised oocytes (p < 0.001). Our findings indicated that the simultaneous treatment groups that also received glucose had a protective impact on embryos. Such structured, more sophisticated research is required to confirm these findings.Article Citation - WoS: 7Citation - Scopus: 10Antecedents of Gastronomy Destination Brand Equity: an Examination of Gastronomy Experience, Motivation, and Destination Satisfaction(Akdeniz Univ, Tourism Fac, 2023) Kodas, Davut; Ozel, cagil HaleThis paper aims to test the relationships among gastronomic experience, motivation, destination satisfaction, and gastronomy destination brand equity. Article Citation - WoS: 9Citation - Scopus: 10Assessment of renal function in obese and overweight children with ngal and kim-1 biomarkers(Nutricion Hospitalaria, 2020) Unsal, Velid; Gül, Ali; Yılmaz, Resul; Özmen, Zeliha Cansel; Demir, Osman; Gümüşer, RüveydaAim and background:the incidence of obesity has increased among children, and obesity has been considered an independent risk factor for chronic kidney disease. We aimed to determine the degree of kidney function impairment by evaluating urine neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) and kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1) levels. Materials and methods: in total, 15 obese, 26 overweight, and 26 control adolescents aged 10 to 16 years were enrolled into the study. Urine samples were evaluated for NGAL and KIM-1 levels using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits. We investigated the association between obesity and related comorbidities with urinary NGAL and KIM-1 excretion. Results: no significant differences were noted between the obese, overweight, and control groups in urinary NGAL and KIM-1 excretion (p = 0.327 and p = 0.917, respectively). In the obese and overweight groups urinary NGAL levels were 50.39 [30.88-74.22] in females and 26.67 [23.24-45.59] in males (p = 0.013). Also, urinary NGAL levels were increased in obese and overweight adolescents with LDL dyslipidemia at 64.12 [30.98-114.32] as compared to those without LDL dyslipidemia: 39.51 [25.59.56.37] (p = 0.024). Furthermore, a correlation was observed between insulin and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance levels with the NGAL/creatinine ratio in the overweight group (r = 0.515; p = 0.008, and r = 0.483; p = 0.014, respectively). Such correlation was not found in the obese group. Conclusion: the effect of obesity on renal function could not be determined in children. A longer exposure may be required for obesity-induced disruption of renal function in children. Renal function may be disrupted by dyslipidemia in obese adolescents. Furthermore, obesity impaired renal function in female adolescents. The normalization of these urinary markers as related to urine creatinine should be discussed. Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 3Beef and milk price links in Turkey(2013) Saghaian Sayed; Özertan Gökhan; Tekgüç HasanThis article addresses the recent beef price spikes in Turkey, using contemporary time-series analysis. The arguments point to the impact of low milk prices that led to liquidation of dairy herds and decline of beef prices initially due to the liquidation and increased meat supply, and subsequent price increases in the next year due to decreased supply. The results revealed that dairy herd liquidation had a delayed impact of a year to 18 months on farm, wholesale, and retail beef prices, Those effects wore off over a two-year time period.Article Citation - WoS: 6Citation - Scopus: 4Biosynthesis of AgNPs by extract from waste leaves of Citrullus lanatus sp. Materials and Methods: Data of 123 patients, who were operated due to RCC, in our clinic was analysed. NLR and PLR were evaluated in patients who were classified according to tumor stage (T1 and T2 low stage, T3 and T4 high stage) and Fuhrman nuclear grade (grade 1 and 2 low-grade, grade 3 and 4 high-grade). NLR and PLR were compared using Levene’s test between the groups. Results: Sixty four patients were female (52.1%) and 59 were male (47.9%). All haematological parameters were expressed as 103 /μL. Mean age, blood neutrophil, lymphocyte and platelet counts, and NLR and PLR values of the patients were 62.49±12.43 years, 6.27±2.8, 2.05±0.83, 263.72±89.03, 4.01±3.93, and 149.73±82.1, respectively. The most common histologic subtype was recorded as clear cell RCC (76.4%). NLR and PLR were 3.83±3.22 and 142.79±66.66, respectively in the low-stage group and 4.43±5.29 and 165.85±109.41, respectively in the high stage group. As for the Fuhrman nuclear grading, NLR and PLR were 3.81±3.45 and 146.63±87.36, respectively in the low-grade group and 4.61±5.387 and 159.32±63.42 in the high-grade group. There was no statistically significant difference between the groups (p>0.05). Conclusion: Although not statistically significant, high tumor stage and nuclear grade were positively correlated with NLR and PLR. It is concluded that, further multi-center and prospective studies with larger samples are needed to derive meaningful results.Article Common and atypical otorhinolaryngological findings of Covid-19(Cukurova Medical Journal, 2021) Sarı, Neslihan; Arslan, Nurgül; Bayram Değer, VasfiyePurpose: Several atypical presentations of COVID-19 like anosmia, conjuctivitis, and gastrointestinal findings are seen in the literature. Diarrhea (48.98%), runny nose (51.02%), nasal congestion (42.85%), sore throat (22.44%), headaches (32.65%), 18.36% olfactory disorder, 26.53% gustatory disturbance were noted. Olfactory and gustatory disturbances are found to be related to good prognosis and mild clinical course. The difference between Hg and D–dimer levels of the female and male patients were found to be statistically significant. The D-dimer levels determined in the present study were higher than those reported in the literature. Conclusion: While COVID-19 present with common symptoms, sometimes atypical symptoms can be the only finding during initial application to the hospital. Olfactory and gustatory disturbances point to the effects of COVID-19 on neurons. Neuronal effects like olfactory and gustatory disturbances should be closely monitored in COVID-19 patients in long term.Article Comparison of Ottoman and British War Magazines in the Context of Propaganda in the First World War Period: The Case of "The War Illustrated" and "Harp Mecmuasi"(2022) Eşitti, Şakir; Işık, Mehmetİlk kitlesel savaş olan I. Dünya Savaşı’nda, kitle iletişim araçlarının propaganda amacıyla yoğun şekilde kullanıldığı görülmektedir. Mevcut literatürde Osmanlı Devleti’nin I. Dünya Savaşı yıllarında yaptığı propaganda faaliyetleriyle savaştığı ülkelerdeki propaganda faaliyetlerini karşılaştırarak inceleyen çalışmaların sayısının oldukça yetersiz olduğu gözlenmektedir. Bu çalışmanın temel amacı I. Dünya Savaşı yıllarında, dönemin süper gücü konumundaki Büyük Britanya’nın ve Osmanlı Devleti’nin askeri dergilerdeki propaganda faaliyetlerini propaganda teknikleri açısından karşılaştırmalı olarak incelemek, bu yolla dönemin iki karşıt devletinin propagandalarındaki benzerlik ve farklılıkları ortaya koymaktır. Bu doğrultuda çalışmada, I. Dünya Savaşı yılarında Büyük Britanya’da yayınlanan The War Illustrated dergisi ile Osmanlı Devleti’nde çıkarılan Harp Mecmuası dergisinin içerik ve söylemleri propaganda teknikleri açısından karşılaştırmalı olarak incelenmiştir. Yapılan analizler sonucunda The War Illustrated dergisinde Domenach’ın güçlü propagandanın beş temel kuralına uygun bir propaganda kampanyası yürütüldüğü Harp Mecmuası’nda ise bu kurallara yeterince uyulmadığı sonuçlarına ulaşılmıştır.Article Could the Umbilical Cord Suggest the Method of Anesthesia?(Galenos Publishing House, 2023)Objective: We aimed to investigate changes in aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), creatine kinase-myocardial band (CK-MB), and troponin I levels, which were biochemical parameters that gave an idea regarding clinical conditions such as tissue damage and asphyxia, according to the anesthesia type, to compare their levels in mothers who gave birth with normal spontaneous vaginal delivery (NSVD) and to investigate whether the type of anesthesia applied caused a change in biochemical parameters. Methods: Of the 90 patients included in the present study, 30 (33.3%) underwent general anesthesia, while 30 (33.3%) underwent spinal anesthesia, and 30 (33.3%) gave birth with NSVD. AST, ALT, LDH, CK-MB, and troponin I levels were measured in all pregnant women before they were taken to the operating room or delivery room. After the baby was delivered, a blood sample was taken from the umblical artery to measure AST, ALT, LDH, CKMB, and troponin I levels. The APGAR scores, the need for oxygen, positive pressure ventilation, and intubation after delivery of the newborns were recorded. Results: Statistically significant increases were found in AST, ALT, LDH, and troponin I levels in umblical artery in all groups when compared with their levels in pregnant women before delivery. Conclusion: An increase in umbilical artery CK-MB and ALT levels was observed in the NSVD group. Due to the increase in umbilical artery CK-MB and ALT levels in the NSVD group, it was found that it was not appropriate to evaluate the effects of anesthesia on the newborn with these markersArticle Citation - WoS: 6Citation - Scopus: 6Cranial size and shape sexual dimorphism in the Kangal dog from Turkey(Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), 2020) Pars-Casanova, Pere M.; Sıddıq, Abu Bakar; Onar, Vedat; Casanova, Pere Miquel ParesThis study has so far been the first attempt to characterize and quantify skull sexual variation in Kangal dog, by means of geometric morphometric techniques. A sample of 16 adult Kangal crania has been analyzed with this purpose. To obtain a full image of morphological pattern, digital pictures were taken from the ventral, left lateral, and dorsal sides of each skull, and a total of 16, 15, and 16 landmarks respectively were obtained on each image. Skull size and shape differed significantly in all aspects among different sexes, male skulls being bigger. Shape differences were observed mainly on zygomatic arch and muzzle on the dorsal view, pterygoid bone and articular surface to mandibular condyle in the lateral aspect, and cranial width and maxillary bone on the ventral view. Although the sample was comparatively small in number, being the first geometric morphometric approach applied on the Kangal dog, the obtained results will add vital information particularly to understand the cranial shape sexual dimorphism of this unique dog breed in Turkey.Article Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 4DEVELOPING THE ONLINE PORNOGRAPHY ADDICTION SCALE AND EXAMINING ITS ASSOCIATIONS WITH PSYCHOSOCIAL FACTORS(Fundacion VECA, 2023) Ergün, NaifThis study aims to develop the Online Pornography Addiction Scale (OPAS) using the behavioral addiction model and to explore the relationships between the scale, demographic variables, psychosocial variables, and pornography viewing behaviors. Two studies were conducted, the first of which involved two phases. The findings from Study 1a and Study 1b reveal that the OPAS comprises 23 items organized into four sub-scales: Compulsiveness-Uncontrollability, Psychosocial Effects, Sexual Effects, and Tolerance-Withdrawal. Overall, the scale demonstrates consistency and reliability. The results of Study 2 indicate that the OPAS correlates with gender, access to professional support, levels of hopelessness, communication with partners, degree of religious affiliation, engagement with sexual videos, frequency of pornography consumption, time devoted to pornography viewing, longest duration without pornography, impact of pornography on sexual experiences, and influence of pornography on daily life. Communication with partners of the opposite sex, engagement with sexual videos, impact on daily life, and religious affiliation levels are also significant predictors of the OPAS score. These findings are discussed in relation to relevant literatureArticle Citation - WoS: 8Citation - Scopus: 8Distant Gastronomic Experiences through Online Cooking Classes in the Covid-19 Era(Taylor & Francis Online, 2022) Seyitoğlu, Faruk; Atsız, OzanThe current paper explores the distant gastronomic experience of online cooking class participants. Accordingly, reviews from various online cooking class providers posted by participants worldwide during the Covid-19 era were included in this research to be examined through content analysis. Adopting the grounded theory approach, this study also aims to propose a model explaining the inter-relationships of the extracted dimensions. As a result, nine dimensions of distant gastronomic experience were revealed: characteristics and skills of service providers, distance learning, entertaining, distance celebration, escape and relaxation, socializing and togetherness, memorable, value, and recommendation and repurchase intention. Besides, a model that explains the inter-relationships of these variables was provided. Hence, the study contributes to the literature regarding gastronomic experience in general and distant gastronomic experience through online cooking classes by providing the components of distant gastronomic experience and their inter-relationships.Article Does disability matter in counselling? The research design was quasi-experimental, and the study was conducted with a pretest/posttest control group. The sample of the study consisted of 74 students who took a course on gender during the fall semester of the 2016-2017 academic year and 70 students who had similar characteristics but did not receive the course. In the pretest and posttest evaluation conducted in the first week and the last week of the semester, respectively, the Student Information Form, the Gender Roles Attitude Scale (GRAS), the Critical Thinking Dispositions Scale (CTDS), and the Media Literacy Scale (MLS) were administered to the students in both groups. The Course Satisfaction Assessment Form was administered at the end of the term to the students who enrolled for the gender course. The GRAS scores of the experimental group increased at the end of the course (p<0.05). The GRAS total mean scores of both the groups were similar in the pretest, but there was a statistically significant difference between their total mean scores in the posttest (p<0.05). This study recommends more comprehensive and long-term studies on integrating a gender course into the university curriculum, which will help develop students' critical thinking disposition and media literacy skills and raise awareness of gender equality among students.Article Citation - Scopus: 7The effect of coronary slow flow on ventricular repolarization parameters(ScienceDirect, 2023) Karahan, Mehmet Zülkif; Aktan, Adem; Güzel, Tuncay; Günlü, Serhat; Kılıç, RaifIntroduction: Ischemia due to microvascular dysfunction may be responsible for the heterogeneity of ventricular repolarization in coronary slow flow. To our knowledge, there is no study in which QT interval, Tp-Te interval, index of cardiac-electrophysiological balance (iCEB), and frontal QRS-T angle were evaluated together in patients with CSF. In this study, we examined for the first time the relationship between all these myocardial repolarization parameters and CSF. Materials and methods: The study group included 178 patients (99 female, mean age: 50.6 ± 8.6 years) with isolated CSF without stenotic lesions and with angiographically proven normal coronary arteries. The control group included 120 patients (71 female, mean age: 49.3 ± 9.4 years) with normal coronary angiography. QRS duration, QT interval, QTc interval, Tp-Te interval, Tp-Te/QT, Tp- Te/QTc, iCEB score, and frontal QRS-T angle were calculated from 12‑lead ECGs. Results: There was no significant difference in demographic parameters between the two groups. Compared with the control group, patients with CSF had significantly longer QTmax duration, QT dispersion, Tp-Te interval, and higher iCEB score, wider frontal QRS-T angle. Conclusion: In our study, we found that many of the ventricular repolarization parameters were adversely affected in patients with CSF. Impaired parameters may be associated with the risk of malignant ventricular arrhythmias.Article The effect of coronary slow flow on ventricular repolarization parameters(ELSEVIER, 2023) Karahan, Mehmet Zülkif; Aktan, Adem; Güzel, Tuncay; Günlü, Serhat; Kılıç, RaifIntroduction: Ischemia due to microvascular dysfunction may be responsible for the heterogeneity of ventricular repolarization in coronary slow flow.
